What to take iPhone 11 or XS

iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 11. what are the differences and what’s cooler?

Apple has done something incredible, for which she is praised! It launched a compact flagship that no other manufacturer has done. While Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung and BBK offer us 6.5 “shovels, which are unrealistic to use with one hand, Apple is presenting the world with the 5.4” FLAGMAN, which is only 13 cm long.

iphone

But does it make sense to take it when a very successful iPhone 11 is available for less money? Let’s figure it out. Below is an objective comparison of phones based on the results of testing both devices by GSMArena.

Cameras

The camera sensors on the two phones are the same. 12 megapixels measuring 1 / 2.55 inches. The only thing is that the 12th aperture is wider. f / 1.6, and the hardware is better, which plays a role in computational photography.

Below are the crops from test photos taken from cameras of two phones under the same lighting. These pictures are taken from the GSMArena website, from the phone camera testing section.

Good light:

Bad light:

The iPhone 11 shoots better in good and bad lighting, although this goes against the logic, because the iPhone 12 has better hardware and optics with a wider aperture.

Performance

The iPhone 11 is powered by a powerful 7nm Apple A13 Bionic processor. The 12th processor is newer and better. 5nm Apple A14 Bionic. It includes 11.8 billion transistors, 40% more than the A13 Bionic.

Test results in different benchmarks

GeekBench 5 (multi-core)

  • iPhone 12 Mini. 4174
  • iPhone 11. 3466

GeekBench 5 (single-core)

  • iPhone 12 Mini. 1599
  • iPhone 11. 1333

Graphics test GFX Car Chase ES 3.1 (onscreen)

  • iPhone 12 Mini. 60
  • iPhone 11. 60 (similar result due to low HD resolution)

AnTuTu 8

  • iPhone 12 Mini. 589616
  • iPhone 11. 501223

Of course, the 12th “iPhone” is more powerful, but not much. And in the graphics test, it has no advantages at all, but here the reason is the undemanding screen on the iPhone 11.

The cost

Suggestions for iPhone 12 mini:

IPhone 11 Suggestions:

The lower price is the first plus in favor of the iPhone 11. Going further.

Screens

The two smartphones use different types of displays: IPS and OLED. OLED is considered to be cooler due to its maximum contrast, but IPS is in favor of the lack of PWM at low brightness. The iPhone 12 mini has an OLED screen with FHD resolution, it has support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision, which is cool. over, there is enough brightness for HDR content, so there really is support.

The iPhone 11 has an HD IPS panel. It seems like an outdated screen, but not in the case of the iPhone. Matrix without “grain”, with excellent detail and color reproduction, but limited contrast.

Characteristics of the screens of two smartphones:

  • iPhone 11: 644 cd / m2 brightness, 1505: 1 contrast ratio
  • iPhone 12 mini: 627 cd / m2, maximum contrast due to lack of light on blacks

We also take into account: on the iPhone 11, a moderately large 6.1-inch screen, on the iPhone 12 mini. 5.4 inches. The winner, of course, is the iPhone 12. But the “eleventh” also has a gorgeous matrix, albeit IPS.

Batteries

Considering the fact that the iPhone 11 is one of the most self-contained iPhones ever made, and the iPhone 12 mini has a small battery, the conclusion is obvious. For starters, the numbers: on the 11th the battery capacity is higher. 3110 mAh, on the 12th mini below. 2227 mAh.

And now the test results of GSMArena studio:

iPhone 11:

  • Continuous conversations: 17:45 h (screen off)
  • Web surfing on Wi-Fi: 15:29 h (brightness 200 cd / m2)
  • Playback 18:43 h (brightness 200 cd / m2)

It’s strange why the iPhone 11 lasts longer with the screen on than with the screen off. But that’s a fact.

iPhone 12:

  • Continuous conversations: 12:21 h (screen off)
  • Web surfing on Wi-Fi: 12:05 h (brightness 200 cd / m2)
  • Playback 12:14 hours (brightness 200 cd / m2)

The winner is the iPhone 11, especially since it comes with a charger and headphones. The 12th comes with only a cable, unfortunately.

What do we end up with?

Pros of iPhone 12 mini:

  • Compact size and ergonomics. This is the main difference.!
  • OLED screen with maximum contrast and HDR support
  • Apple A14 Bionic processor. more powerful hardware

Pros of iPhone 11:

  • IPS screen without PWM and burnout. Perhaps for some this is more important than maximum contrast on OLED.
  • Higher autonomy! iPhone 11 lasts much longer on a single charge
  • Better photo quality in good and low light; why is not clear. Perhaps with a software update, the iPhone 12 mini will shoot better, but so far the iPhone 11 wins
  • Comes with a charger
  • Includes headphones

iPhone X, XS or XR. which one is more profitable and what to take?

It’s 2019 and new models of the company will begin to appear soon, but even now people are wondering which model is the cheapest and which is best to buy. The 10th generation of iPhones has S and R versions, which one is better to choose will be said in this source. At the moment, the newest phones of the company are iPhone X, XR and XS versions. The iPhone X has the same hardware as the iPhone 8, but it does not have the same design as the dozen, and this is the final model of the format from Apple, there will no longer be phones built on the visual basis of the iPhone 8. But if the budget is limited, then this is very good option to buy, its price is very different from X and it is much cheaper.

This model came out in 2017 and will soon be 2 years old. Updates will be delivered to the database for another 4-5 years, so you can still safely buy it, since the phone is powerful and will be relevant for a long time. Pros of iPhone X:

  • Display without bezel
  • Ability to unlock with a face
  • Wireless charger

There are slightly different amounts of internal memory that differ: 64 gigabytes and 256 GB. Apple has specially made such conditions for the purchase: a little or a lot. Wherein. It has good specifications, the processor core does a good job, despite the fact that it was released 1 year earlier than other copies. But it is very powerful and can handle multiple window openings without any problems and can pull demanding games. The smartphone has a built-in dual camera with optical zoom, it has excellent stabilization, at which you can shoot without twitching. But the smartphone also has disadvantages:

  • Back panel made of glass
  • Notch at the top of the display, sometimes it gets in the way

In general, the phone is good, it has small frames, excellent performance, which will make it possible to use the phone even after 5 years. The iPhone has a very good camera, head and shoulders above the cameras of other top-end Android systems.

iPhone XR

This model came out last year and became the “Budget Option”, the iPhone 10 XR, which is low enough for the Apple brand. The model is cheaper than the regular version of the iPhone X. The phone has the latest processor available at the moment. Apple A12. Performance tests show this, they can be viewed on video hosting sites on the Internet. There is only one main camera in the phone, but this does not mean that blurry photos will be obtained on it. This is not the case, she also takes beautiful photos and has good stabilization. The camera can do the required blur using artificial intelligence or additional software. The blur can be adjusted after taking a photo, just like with other versions of the iPhone. The model is the most colorful, it has 6 different colors. The smartphone has the second generation of the Face ID system, as in the XS Max and just the XS models. The iPhone XR has a 6.1-inch display, and it’s HD, but the pixel count is 321 by 1 inch. that’s enough to keep your eyes free from irritation and your eyesight to see the pixels. The phone has an IPS matrix. this affects the size of the frames around the edges of the phone. On the X and XS models, the bezels are smaller, as they are equipped with a different sensor. The model does not have a 3D Touch system.

iPhone XS

Model released in 2018. The phone is not even a year old, it is very fresh. The flagship will receive new firmware packages for another 5-6 years. The stable operation of the phone is ensured by the processor of the Apple A12 model, the phone has 4 gigabytes of RAM (of which 500 megabytes is consumed by the system). The iPhone XS has three variations of the built-in memory, here Apple violated its principles and created three versions: 64; 256; 512 gigabytes. Minimum. The smartphone has a new camera, several modules with six lenses have been created for it. It has 2x zoom combined with image processing and optical stabilization. The camera distinguishes itself from others by its large pixels. The phone has a “depth” function with which you can change the sharpness and depth of a photo. The relatively large display is 5.8 inches. Improved Face ID that is faster and more accurate. There is wireless charging, as in other flagships. Apple Pay is also available.

Battery comparison

In this case, the XR is very much superior to the XS, as it can work offline for 5 hours longer than the opponent. It also outperforms the Model S in battery life when surfing the Internet, with the XR doing 15 hours straight, 3 hours longer. It can play videos 2 hours longer than the opponent. Audio playback can be done for 65 hours, the model gives a head start of 5 hours for the XS version. The phone can last longer than even the iPhone XS Max. The battery figures are either the same, or there is a slight advantage towards the XR version. If you require constant phone operation and its energy consumption is high, then this version is better than the rest.

Which model is the most profitable?

The performance of the iPhone XR and XS is no different, it is the same. But the XS has 1GB more RAM than the XR. This is not critical, since the average user has enough RAM anyway. The XR has just one camera, has larger bezels and lower resolutions, and doesn’t have 3D Touch on the phone. The iPhone XS has dual cameras, small bezels, and 3D Touch, all the while. The regular model X also has small bezels, but the processor is different, there is the Apple A11. last year’s generation of Apple processors. The best value phone for the price will be the iPhone XR. A significant plus is a longer battery life, it keeps charging longer than the X and XS. The front and back panels of iPhone XR and XS are made of glass that has gone through several stages of hard tempering. It protects against bumps and scratches, both devices have this glass. The models are distinguished by side frames: XR has brushed aluminum, and XS in polished steel. Both coatings can prevent scratches and deformation of the case. Especially brushed aluminum is very resistant to deep scratches. The iPhone XR is available in black, blue, and white. The XS version only comes in silver, gold and black. The XR is factory-protected against moisture. IP67, it can submerge to a depth of 1 meter for 25 minutes. The XS has better moisture protection, the phone can be immersed already up to 2 meters, no more than 30 minutes. The screen resolution of the XR is 1792 x 828. The XS has an OLED display, the iPhone XR has an “advanced” IPS. As a result, the flagships were made deeper colors and “juicy” pictures, in the XR and XS models the resolution has increased. The iPhone XR weighs 194 grams and weighs the most. The XS weighs 177 grams. This is certainly not the iPhone 7, which weighs only 138 grams, but for modern flagships, such figures are very worthy. The XR and XS versions are not very different from each other. They both have a water resistance system, they have a powerful filling. If the phone you are going to buy needs to have a good battery, then the XR is worth a look.

Price comparison

Samsung Note 10 vs iPhone XS. which to choose?

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is the latest flagship of the Korean brand, which was released “the other day”. The iPhone XS was introduced in September and has been on the market for a long time, moreover, the iPhone 11 with a disgusting design, which, most likely, will not be accepted as well as the iPhone XS is “on the nose”. This means that the comparison of TOP camera phones is more relevant than ever. Let’s figure out who is cooler. “Korean” or “American”.

Autonomy

IPhones have never had large batteries, so they often lost to competitors in terms of autonomy. It happened this time too; the XS has a 2658 mAh battery; on Samsung Note 10. 3500 mAh.

Battery test results:

iPhone XS Samsung Note 10
Continuous conversations (screen off) 14:10 h 25:06 h
Internet surfing via Wi-Fi (brightness 200 cd / m2) 10:20 h 11:46 h
Video playback (“Airplane” mode, brightness 200 cd / m2) 11:21 h 18:05 h

In all scenarios, Samsung Note 10 wins with 11 more hours of talk time after iPhone XS shuts down.

In terms of charging speed “iPhone” also lags behind. The box contains a 5W adapter, which is 22% in 30 minutes. The Galaxy Note 10 comes with a 25W charger, with which the phone charges up to 57% in 30 minutes, and this with a 3500 mAh battery. Wireless charging is supported by both models, but reversible charging is available only on Samsung Note 10. Therefore, in terms of autonomy and charging speed, the Korean wins by a huge margin.

Performance

Both flagships are equipped with proprietary 7nm processors. The iPhone XS has an Apple A12 Bionic chip with Apple GPU graphics; on Samsung. Exynos 9825. Describing the characteristics of processors is a topic for a separate review, our task is to compare performance.

Benchmark results:

iPhone XS Samsung Note 10
GeekBench 4.1 (single-core) 4823 4544
GeekBench 4.1 (multi-core) 11472 10353
GFX 3.1 Manhattan Graphics Test (onscreen) 60 55
AnTuTu 7 346379 344442

The Apple A12 Bionic processor is stronger, which is evident from the benchmark results. However, in practice, you will not notice the difference in the speed of applications. both phones are extremely powerful and offer a huge margin of power.

Comparison of characteristics

Both smartphones are made in cool glass cases, offer TOP hardware, cameras and screens, but there are differences. Further. in more detail.

Screens

Both phones are equipped with OLED displays. It is noteworthy that the developer in both cases is Samsung. On the iPhone XS, the screen diagonal is 5.8 inches, there is a “monobrow” on top, support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision is declared, on the top of the screen there is a 120 Hz sensor, which more accurately recognizes tapes on the screen.

Samsung Note 10 received a similar Amoled matrix with HDR10 support (analogous to Dolby Vision) and a pixel density of 401 ppi, on top there is Gorilla Glass 6. What brand of glass is used on the iPhone XS. unknown.

The results of testing the matrices of two smartphones:

The Samsung Note 10’s screen is technically better due to its higher brightness. This means that the content on the Samsung will read better in daylight. Support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision technology on Samsung Note 10 and iPhone XS, respectively, is not very important, since there is very little corresponding content in the world. But HDR10, supported by two phones, plays perfectly on both screens.

Cameras

iPhone XS has two cameras. a 12MP main sensor with f / 1.8 aperture and OIS; additional module. with telephoto optics providing 2x zoom. Naturally, 4K video shooting at 60 FPS is possible.

Samsung Note 10 received the same camera sensors as Samsung S10 and Note 10. The main module. with a resolution of 12 megapixels, optical stabilization and dynamic aperture f / 1.5-2.4. When it’s light outside, the system uses an f / 2.4 aperture, when the light is low. f / 1.5, which allows you to get sharp and detailed shots day and night. Also on the Note 10 is a wide-angle telephoto camera. A separate plus. autofocus on the “front”, which is deprived of the iPhone XS.

Autonomous work and charging

The iPhone 11 received a battery of 11.91 Wh (3110 mAh, 3.8 V). a solution for Apple is quite typical, the company has never been particularly generous with batteries for its smartphones. In combination with a 6.1-inch LCD screen and a rather resource-demanding platform, the iPhone 11 ran out of power in my usual use cases (okay, with a large percentage of involvement in games. I actively plunged into the Apple Arcade catalog) in about a day. from the moment waking up until the moment I went to bed (that is, 16-17 hours). A completely normal cycle that did not require me to necessarily look for an outlet in the middle of the day.

In our traditional HD video test with notifications on and connected to Wi-Fi, the iPhone 11 achieved the expected result of a smartphone with an LCD screen. just over nine hours. But for the iPhone, I must say, this is a very good progress. in previous models with LCD screens (and not only), we talked about 5-6 hours in this test.

Unfortunately, the iPhone 11 kit did not include a fast charging adapter. there is only the most ordinary, 5-watt one, with which the smartphone’s battery is fully charged in about two and a half hours. An 18-watt charger, like the iPhone 11 Pro Max, is also supported, but must be purchased separately. Apple’s legendary greed at its finest.

Camera

The second important difference between the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Pro is the rear camera system. However, the difference is not as dramatic as it could be. There is simply no portrait module here, and the normal and wide-angle ones are preserved without any changes: both with 12-megapixel sensors (the main one is 1 / 2.55-inch physical, there is no information about the wide-angle one), with lenses with an equivalent focal length of 26 and 13 mm and aperture ratio ƒ / 1.8 and ƒ / 2.4. An optical stabilizer and phase detection autofocus work with the main camera, the wide-angle module is devoid of both autofocus and stabilization.

But interesting, as usual, not the characteristics of the cameras themselves, but how the smartphone processes the results obtained with the help of this “hardware”. Some of the questions were removed in the review of the iPhone 11 Pro Max. the progress compared to the previous generation of “iPhones”, especially in night photography (multi-frame exposure supported, Hallelujah!) Is very serious. So serious that many people are again talking about the fact that Apple has the best mobile camera. Perhaps these statements are not entirely true.

The iPhone 11 test took place in two stages. before installing the beta version of iOS 13.2 and after. I will also split the camera test into two parts.

Left. shooting with the main camera, right. wide-angle

Above you can see examples of shooting with the main and wide-angle camera modules of the iPhone 11 without Deep Fusion technology. In any case, we can see very high-quality color rendition and decent working out of scenes in low light, although it’s still not worth saying that Apple has caught up with Huawei, Google or even Samsung in one leap in terms of night photography. Firstly, the night mode does not work with a wide-angle camera, which greatly interferes with its use in dark conditions. Secondly, the noise level is still very high. the picture looks good on the smartphone screen, but already on the monitor it is noticeable that there are problems, and considerable.

Nevertheless, this is a normal flagship level of photography, and in street / landscape photography, the iPhone 11 is in no way inferior to the Pro version, letting it go forward only when shooting portraits. a camera with an adequate focal length is greatly lacking in the younger iPhone. At the same time, there is a portrait mode, and it works quite decently. the subject and the background are separated qualitatively. just optics are not suitable for shooting close-ups.

Left. shooting without night mode, right. with night mode (since iOS 13.2 beta)

Unfortunately, we didn’t have an iPhone 11 or iPhone 11 Pro with “regular” iOS 12 for comparison, so it’s impossible to compare a head-to-head picture with and without Deep Fusion. But it will be possible to compare it with the one issued by the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. a smartphone with the best mobile camera according to DxO Mark (and not only). First, a few words about Deep Fusion technology. Its meaning is not much different from that used in their cameras by Google or the same Huawei and described in the article “Computational photography”. The device continuously captures everything that enters the “viewfinder” screen when the camera application is on and then, when you “pull the shutter”, takes four frames taken before you gave the command to shoot, and four after. All. with different exposures. Then they are combined into one, assembled from them literally pixel by pixel. the “brains” of the smartphone selectively and using neural network calculations apply noise reduction to different areas of the image, tighten the detail. The system works very efficiently. the images are really very detailed, and it looks natural, and not “overshadowed”. Examples can be seen below. Another thing is that Deep Fusion does not work in all situations now (the technology is very selective with the night mode) and only with the main and portrait cameras. Deep Fusion does not work with wide-angle module yet.

On the left is a picture taken on the iPhone 11 (with iOS 13.2 beta and, accordingly, Deep Fusion), on the right. on the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. The conditions and settings are identical (as far as possible for different smartphones)

Above, you can see pictures taken under the same conditions on the iPhone 11 and Huawei Mate 30 Pro. The main advantage of the device from Cupertino is more accurate and pleasant work with colors and, perhaps, softer processing. Huawei sometimes sorts out with attempts to “stretch” both dark and light areas and with an increase in contour sharpness. On the other hand, the iPhone 11’s night mode is much more limited, the wide-angle camera is inferior to that of Huawei in all respects, and the advantage in detail using Deep Fusion does not seem dramatic. We will prepare a more detailed comparison of the iPhone 11 Pro Max with the main Android flagships later in the month.

4K 60p video captured on iPhone 11

4K 30p video captured on iPhone 11

4K 60p video captured with Huawei Mate 30 Pro

In terms of video shooting, the iPhone has always had a big advantage over all its competitors. the softest stitching of frames with effective stabilization leads to the fact that the picture hardly jerks, while all Android smartphones without exception have problems with this to one degree or another. This advantage continues to this day. Also Apple is very cool to implement switching between wide-angle and main camera when shooting video. seamlessly and with virtual “zoom in / out” of the sound. But at the same time, in terms of video quality in the dark, the iPhone 11 does not surpass the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. This is especially true for shooting in 4K60p. shadows completely fall through, noise reduction is too diligent.

iPhone 11 vs XS в 2021 году. какой выбрать

The front camera is the same as on the iPhone 11 Pro Max: 12 megapixels, ƒ / 2.2, no autofocus, no flash, with the ability to record slow-motion videos (Slofy. I bet that neither the videos themselves nor the term will catch on) and with different viewing angles for vertical and horizontal shooting (which is great). Front camera is like a front camera. rather good than bad.

IPhone 11 Specification and Subsystem Information

Display and sound

Apple wouldn’t be itself if it didn’t at least somehow cut the characteristics of the “younger iPhone” (which is sold at a price of 60 thousand rubles, let me remind you). yes, this year the gap is really not very big, but the iPhone 11 did not receive An OLED screen, which has become the norm for everyone for several years now, and an LCD with an IPS matrix. And the iPhone 11 thus automatically receives the title of the most expensive smartphone with an LCD display.

There is a 6.1-inch IPS-screen with a resolution of 1792 × 828 pixels. The pixel density is low. 326 ppi. And this can be noticed, in principle, with the naked eye. the clarity of the image is frankly lacking in comparison with at least full-fledged Full HD screens. No matter how much Apple once said that Retina is the limit of human discernible clarity, it is not, and the company itself has since increased the resolution of older devices, having long gone from the 300 dpi level.

No LCD display can boast of an incredible contrast, and the one installed in the iPhone 11 is no exception. Although the level for IPS is not bad. 1480: 1. It’s pointless to just talk about any rivalry with OLED screens.

At the same time, everything is expectedly good with the iPhone 11 display with a brightness of 549 cd / m2. Taking into account the measurement error (we always take them in a room with dim artificial lighting), we can talk about close compliance with the declared level of 625 cd / m2.

Support for HDR10 is declared, but we are still talking about the playback of clips in this format, and not the absolute compliance of the screen with the standard.

The display settings are familiar to the iPhone. you cannot manually adjust the color rendition, you can only turn on / off the mode of automatic adjustment of colors for ambient lighting True Tone, choose a light or dark skin theme (here they are, the true innovations of the new iOS!), Activate the night mode and “play with fonts “. I measured the color rendition of the display with and without True Tone enabled. however, in the first case, the measurement results can be considered more or less arbitrary.

iPhone 11 color temperature. Blue line. iPhone 11 indicators, dashed. reference temperature

iPhone 11 color gamut. Gray triangle is sRGB coverage, white triangle is iPhone 11 coverage

In its default mode, the iPhone 11 demonstrates the display customization quality we’re used to in Apple products. The average gamma is an ideal 2.25 with very stable curves. The color temperature line is almost perfectly flat and keeps close to the reference level of 7,000 K. The average DeltaE deviation on the Color Checker scale, which includes both a wide range of colors and shades of gray, is 2.50, which is within the normal range. The picture is absolutely honest, although the color gamut does not correspond to the declared (P3), but keeps very close to the usual sRGB.

iPhone 11 color temperature with True Tone on. Blue line. iPhone 11 indicators, dashed. reference temperature

iPhone 11, color gamut with True Tone on. Gray triangle is sRGB coverage, white triangle is iPhone 11 coverage

When True Tone is activated, the picture changes visually. it becomes warmer and more pleasant to the eye. But the measurement results show, on the contrary, a noticeable “cooling”. the color temperature is already in the region of 7 750 K. The gamma is still almost ideal (2.27), but the color space does not expand, but slightly shifts, the average deviation of Delta E in the Color Checker scale is already outside the normal range. 3.18. But this is still extremely close to the truth. Apple continues a great tradition with great customization of its smartphone screens.

With the sound of the iPhone 11, things are exactly the same as the iPhone 11 Pro Max. there is no mini-jack, but there is support for high-quality audio transmission standards without wires. But there is no adapter from Lightning to mini-jack. Apple, well fucking! The sound quality for wireless data transmission is good, you will not find fault. The built-in speakers are also in order. there are two of them, it’s stereo. One is directed conditionally “to the side” when watching a video / game in landscape orientation of the screen, the other is directed directly at the listener. The sound is far from outstanding, but not bad.

Design, ergonomics and software

If there were many external differences between the iPhone XS and the iPhone XR, which, despite the inevitable status losses, did not prevent the “youngest” from becoming popular, the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro outwardly hardly differ.

At the front, they do not differ at all. except that you can instantly and by eye determine the difference between LCD and OLED displays and have an ideal eye. after all, the dimensions of the usual iPhone 11 are different (it is larger than the iPhone 11 Pro, but smaller, than the iPhone 11 Pro Max). A large cutout with a speaker, a front camera and a Face ID sensor, atypically serious bezels around the display. everything is similar to last year.

iPhone XS vs iPhone 11 in 2020. Which should you buy?

Behind, it is not difficult to identify the junior model. in the “stove” located in the upper corner, there are two burners, not three. On this we will finish, perhaps with irony. it looks, frankly, not bad. Apple has incorporated camera lenses into large glasses and achieved unambiguous and one hundred percent recognition of its new smartphones, while maintaining a certain elegance. as much as possible in modern devices with multi-camera systems.

Apple iPhone 11, rear panel: in the corner. a dual camera with a dual LED flash and a microphone, covered with an elegant grille

The iPhone 11 also differs in colors. as in the case of the XS / XR, the younger model is decorated more fun: instead of dark / gray / marsh tones, green, yellow, purple, red and white colors are offered here, along with the inevitable black. The names do not always correspond to reality, by the way. our test turned out to be a “purple” iPhone 11. in fact, lavender.

Apple iPhone 11, left-hand side: Sound profile toggle and volume / shutter keys

Apple iPhone 11 right-side: power / lock key

The iPhone 11 is a large device, despite a relatively small display by modern standards: under 200 grams of weight, you can’t put it in a shirt. but in a pants or jacket. it’s quite normal. It is quite comfortable to operate the smartphone, the materials are familiar. glass on the front and back panels, metal on the sides. At the same time, the glass, unlike the Pro version, is glossy, not matte. due to the fact that the back is straight, not curved, the smartphone does not crawl away from various surfaces, but it is still scary to use it without a cover.

Apple iPhone 11, the top face is devoid of functional elements

Apple iPhone 11 bottom: main speaker and Lightning port

The functional elements are familiar to the iPhone: all the keys are in place, as well as the switch of sound profiles; there is no mini-jack (3.5 mm), but there is IP68 protection. like the older model. iPhone XR, remember, was protected only by the IP67 standard.

So much has already been written about the situation with the fingerprint scanner and Face ID that, in fact, there is nothing to add. I will just note that Apple is clearly waiting for some kind of breakthrough in sub-screen sensor technology (like the availability of fingerprint recognition in any area of the display), so that at least in this area it does not chase everyone, but demonstrates technological superiority. In terms of speed and, especially, the quality of face recognition, Apple still has the advantage. the Face ID system performs much better than all competitors’ offerings. But its lack of alternative still somewhat saddens.

Apple iPhone 11, the top face is devoid of functional elements

We wrote about the operating system iOS 13 in detail in the review of the iPhone 11 Pro Max. The version of iOS 13.2, with which I tested the smartphone, does not bring almost anything new to it, except for the already mentioned Deep Fusion system, which improves the quality of shooting; it also has several blanks that will allow the smartphone to better interact with the new Airpods and HomePod, but what exactly will change. without these gadgets on hand you cannot say.

  • § Conclusion
  • We already planned to review not only the flagship iPhone 11 Pro Max (miss?), But also this year’s iPhone XR. the “regular” eleventh, with a 6.1-inch LCD display, dual rather than triple cameras, smaller dimensions and the battery is weaker. Well, and, of course, a more affordable price. if such terms are generally applicable to Apple products. The iPhone XR can only be called successful at a stretch, but the iPhone 11 is made taking into account the main problem of last year’s “inexpensive iPhone”. too large a gap between it and the older Apple smartphone. and looks much more promising.

But already in the process of preparing the material, iOS 13.2 beta was released with the advertised Deep Fuison image processing system, which was supposed to throw the iPhone to a new level in terms of photography. This news created a new dimension for the material, in which we compared the iPhone 11 in photo and video quality with the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. Well, we still talked about other features of this smartphone.

I’ll make a reservation right away that there are no sections on hardware and wireless connections. the iPhone 11 in terms of hardware filling repeats the iPhone 11 Pro Max, which passed all the benchmarks and proved to be the most powerful smartphone to date. The iPhone 11 also received an Apple A13 Bionic and 4GB of RAM. Only the storage options differ: 64, 128 and 256 GB versus 64, 256 and 512 GB for the Pro version. It is worth mentioning that the new iPhones use non-volatile memory of the UFS 2.1 standard, while the latest Android flagships, one after the other, receive much faster UFS 3.0 memory.

    Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max

Wireless connections iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro are also almost identical: Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac / ax, a scheme with one SIM card slot with LTE support (all the necessary bands are in place). but the LTE modem in the “younger version” is weaker. the declared maximum download speed is 1024 Mbps versus 1600 Mbps for the Pro version.

Apple iPhone 11 is, in my opinion, a much more successful attempt to make an “inexpensive iPhone” than the iPhone XR, which with the sum of its compromises (and body colors) reminded of the forgotten iPhone 5c. But the very good sales figures, which Apple even provoked on purpose, show that the compromises and the strong gap between the older and younger iPhones do not scare the public.

iPhone 11 should become even more popular than XR and without additional stimulation. the gap between it and the Pro version is not so great, the design is almost identical, the user experience too. I was pleased that the younger version uses a two-camera system, while retaining the wide-angle, not the portrait module. it seems a little more relevant in everyday use. Portrait is not as popular a genre for mobile photography as landscape or street photography. Night mode is effective, but not perfect (and does not work with a wide-angle camera), Deep Fusion technology is also good, but also limited in scope.

Of the shortcomings of a smartphone that is more adequate than the Pro version, the money I will only note an outdated LCD display, Apple’s classic greed for a complete fast charging adapter, large frames around the screen and a huge cutout, which can already be called an anachronism.

    Advantages:

    • this is a new iPhone, which costs from 60 to 74 thousand rubles, not from a hundred;
    • highest performance;
    • high-quality sound;
    • good quality of shooting with the main camera;
    • moisture protection;
    • nice body colors.

    Disadvantages:

    • no mini-jack or mini-jack adapter included;
    • weak charger included;
    • bright and well-tuned, but still LCD display;
    • the plug zoo show continues. Lightning again;
    • a portrait camera is still lacking.

IPhone 11 Pro Max vs XS Max comparison

    CPU

iPhone XS Max has one of the most powerful processors ever. Apple A12 Bionic. This is a six-core chipset, made on a 7nm process technology. A quad-core video accelerator with support for Metal 2 technology is responsible for the graphics operation. The chipset has enough power for several years to come.

The chipset for the 11 Pro Max is the six-core 7nm Apple A13 Bionic. It focuses on machine learning and neural networks. A separate controller is announced that will distribute the computing power. As the developers promise, the energy efficiency of the chipset has increased dramatically, with a performance increase of 20%.

What is the difference between the iPhone 11 Pro Max and XS Max

    Camera

Last year’s maximum flagship Apple has two cameras in the main photomodule. The resolution of both sensors is 12 megapixels. The wide-angle lens has an f / 1.8 aperture and a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. f / 2.4. The XS Max sets itself apart from the competition with its dual OIS, which allows it to record excellent quality videos in up to 4K resolution.

11 Pro Max, following the standard version, received a three-chamber module, where the resolution of each sensor. 12 megapixels. The main camera has an f / 1.8 aperture, an ultra-wide-angle sensor and a telephoto camera that provides 2x optical zoom. There’s an advanced night mode similar to what we’ve seen in Pixel phones. The video capabilities of the smartphone, in fact, remained at the level of last year’s version. 4K @ 60fps and OIS on each sensor.

Last year’s giant remains obscenely expensive in the fall of 2019. Perplexity is caused by the price tag of 98.6 thousand rubles for the version with a 64 GB drive. 256 GB will cost 112 thousand rubles, and 512 GB. 130 thousand rubles. Note that these are official in Russia and if you search, you can find cheaper copies. But not much.

On September 20, 2019, in Russia, as well as throughout the world, they will start selling the new 11 Pro Max. The are promised to us as follows: 64 GB. 99.9 thousand rubles, 256 GB. 113.9 thousand rubles, 512 GB. 131.9 thousand rubles.

    Display

iPhone X has a 5.8-inch Super Retina HD display. It is made using OLED technology, and this is the first Apple smartphone to use this type of matrix instead of the usual IPS.

The screen resolution is 2436 × 1125 pixels, and the density reaches 458 PPI. The standard contrast is 1,000,000: 1 and the brightness is 625 cd / m². High dynamic range (HDR) content support.

The device works with True Tone technology, which adjusts the white temperature to the environment for a more comfortable reading and web browsing experience.

The iPhone X’s screen has a layer that controls pressure. It works with 3D Touch technology, which is needed to display additional functions for working with icons on the home screen and menu items.

In iOS 13, the same capabilities are implemented using the Haptic Touch technology, which determines not the pressure of the press, but its duration. Together with her, the meaning of 3D Touch disappeared.

iPhone 11 features a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina HD display. It is made using IPS technology, which was used in the iPhone XR, iPhone 8 (Plus), iPhone 7 (Plus) and other older Apple smartphones.

The screen resolution is 1792 × 828 pixels, and the density reaches 336 PPI. The standard contrast is 1400: 1 and the brightness is 625 cd / m². There is no support for high dynamic range (HDR) content. True Tone in place.

The density is quite enough to make it almost impossible to notice individual points on the screen. Apple uses an increased number of PPIs in OLED screens only due to the peculiarity of the structure of individual pixels.

The reduced contrast of the screen affects only the depth of the black color. in IPS, it looks more like a dark gray. In direct comparison to the iPhone 11, wider bezels around the screen are noticeable, but in daily use they do not matter.

The screen of the new smartphone does not support 3D Touch. Apple ditched this technology for the first time in the iPhone XR and after a successful test decided to no longer use it in its smartphones.

What is the difference between iPhone X and iPhone 11. Is it worth updating

iPhone X was released in September 2017. This is the first truly new Apple smartphone that changed the concept of the entire line of devices of the company.

In this article, we will compare the old man with the new iPhone 11, which also has 2 main cameras. Why the new smartphone is better than the iPhone X?

❶ iPhone X has a 5.8-inch OLED screen at 458 PPI, iPhone 11 has a 6.1-inch IPS screen with thicker bezels at 336 PPI. The latter loses in the depth of black, but it will hardly be possible to see individual points on it.

❷ iPhone 11 is 7.3 mm longer than iPhone X, 4.8 mm wider, 0.5 mm thicker and 20 g heavier. But it has more variety of colors. in addition to black and white, there are red, yellow, green and purple.

❸ iPhone 11 is up to 30% faster and up to 50% more battery life than iPhone X. It also has more RAM.

❹ Instead of a TV camera like the iPhone X, the iPhone 11 has a 120-degree ultra-wide angle. both additional sensors with relatively low light sensitivity относительно / 2.4.

    ❺ iPhone 11 has 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB of internal storage. IPhone X. 64 and 256 GB.

Now let’s go through all the main differences between gadgets in more detail.

    Memory

New items are available in three memory options: 64, 128 and 256 GB. iPhone X is not officially for sale, iPhone 11 went on sale on September 20. here are the prices:

    • iPhone 11 64 GB. 59,990 rubles.
    • iPhone 11 128 GB. 64,990 rubles.
    • iPhone 11 256 GB. 73,990 rubles.

On the side of the iPhone X are premium materials, a higher quality screen with thinner bezels. iPhone 11 wins in terms of speed and battery life, as well as the capabilities of the main and front cameras.

Whether to update or not. now it will be easier for you to make this choice.

    Cameras

The iPhone X uses two 12MP primary cameras: a standard wide-angle ƒ / 1.8 aperture and a telephoto lens to simulate a 2x optical zoom with ƒ / 2.4 aperture. There is a portrait mode.

When there is not enough light for the secondary camera, the smartphone switches to digital zoom on the more sensitive primary one. In this case, the pictures are quite grainy, so it is better not to use the zoom in the dark.

The main cameras can record 4K video. Both support optical image stabilization to compensate for shaking.

The front camera of the iPhone X is 7 megapixels with an aperture size of ƒ / 2.2. With it, you can shoot video in 1080p resolution.

The iPhone 11 uses two 12MP primary cameras: a standard wide-angle ƒ / 1.8 aperture and an ultra-wide-angle 120-degree field of view with ƒ / 2.4 aperture. There is a portrait mode with an additional effect “Depth”.

The additional camera of the smartphone has a relatively low light sensitivity, so pictures with it in the dark can be quite grainy and relatively indistinct.

The novelty has received a special night mode, which takes good quality pictures with the main camera, even in poor ambient light. To do this, she simulates a long exposure and uses neural networks.

Videos can be recorded in 4K resolution. It is better to do this with the main camera, since the ultra wide angle does not have optical stabilization.

The novelty makes it possible to use an extended dynamic range with a frequency of up to 60 frames per second. It also has an Audio Zoom function that controls the direction of the sound.

The front camera of the iPhone 11 is 12 megapixels, and this gives it the ability to take clearer selfies. But the aperture size remains the same. ƒ / 2.2. It can record videos up to 4K resolution.

    Characteristics

iPhone X is powered by a 6-core A11 Bionic processor and first-generation Neural Engine. In the single-core Geekbench 4 test, it scores on average about 920 points, in the multi-core. up to 2400. RAM 3 GB.

The smartphone recognizes you by sight using the Face ID scanner, for which a whole scattering of cameras and sensors is allocated on the screen.

The gadget has stereo sound. For this, together with the main speaker at the bottom end of the case, it also plays a conversational speaker, which mainly produces only high frequencies.

The iPhone X has a 2,716 mAh battery. Apple promises that with it the smartphone can play video over the Internet for up to 13 hours.

iPhone 11 is powered by a 6-core A13 Bionic processor and third-generation Neural Engine. In the single-core Geekbench 4 test, it scores on average about 1320 points, in the multi-core. up to 3300. In total, it is more powerful by about 30%. RAM 4 GB.

It also uses Face ID as the only biometric sensor on the smartphone. Apple claims it has a wider angle of coverage and up to 30% faster performance. However, when using iOS 13, the difference is not so noticeable.

In addition to normal stereo sound, the device also supports spatial audio and Dolby Atmos technology. However, not everyone will be able to notice this in real life.

The iPhone 11 has a 3110 mAh battery. Even according to the official statements of Apple in the mode of video playback via the Internet, it works 30% longer. up to 17 hours. Due to a more energy efficient processor in real life, autonomy is up to 50% higher.

With iPhone 11, you can use a SIM pair. In the Chinese version, these are two physical cards, in the rest. one physical and one electronic.

    Housing

The iPhone X is the company’s first smartphone to feature a polished stainless steel frame around its body. It is stronger than aluminum, but it is covered with small scratches, which is especially noticeable on the silver model.

The front and back panels of the smartphone are covered with tempered glass, which Corning makes for Apple. It was produced in two colors: silver and space gray.

The dimensions of the smartphone are 143.6 × 70.9 × 7.7 mm, the weight is 174 g. It is protected from moisture and dust according to the IP67 standard. it can be submerged under water to a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes.

The iPhone 11 is the successor to the iPhone XR and is also built around a 7000 series anodized aluminum frame. It does not flex, but is inferior to steel in terms of strength and tactile sensations.

The front and back panels of the smartphone are covered with Corning glass. To harden them, the technology of double ion exchange is used for the first time, which increases their strength. You can buy the iPhone 11 in white and black, red and green, yellow and purple.

The dimensions of the smartphone are 150.9 × 75.7 × 8.3 mm, the weight is 194 g. It is protected from moisture and dust according to the IP68 standard, it can be submerged under water to a depth of 2 meters for up to 30 minutes.
