How to reset iPad to factory settings

The need to reset iPad to factory settings can arise in a variety of situations. For example, a reset may be necessary in the event of software glitches or when the device is sold. In this article, we will look at three ways at once on how to reset iPad to factory settings.

But, first, a few words about safety. Before resetting iPad, check the battery charge level. It is necessary that it be charged at least 30 percent, and better all at 100. Since turning off the device during a factory reset can lead to breakdown. Also, before resetting, it is advisable to make a backup using iTunes. This will allow you to restore everything, in the event that you change your mind. And if you have an iPad with a jailbreak, then it is better to refuse to reset the settings altogether, as this can lead to problems with loading.

Reset iPad via iTunes

You can also reset iPad to factory settings using iTunes. In this case, first you need to turn off Find iPad. To do this, go to the iPad Settings, open the “iCloud” section and disable the “Find iPad” function there. It should be noted that to disable this feature, you will have to enter your Apple ID password. Without this, you will not be able to turn off the iPad search and perform a factory reset via iTunes.

After disabling Find iPad, you can start resetting your iPad to factory settings. To do this, launch iTunes on your computer and connect your iPad to your computer using a cable. After connecting your iPad, click on the device icon that appears in the upper left corner of the iTunes window.

Then you need to go to the “Overview” tab.

And click on the “Restore iPad” button there. It should be noted that there is also a “Restore from copy” button next to it. This button is responsible for restoring the iPad from a previously created backup and has nothing to do with a factory reset. Therefore, do not confuse the buttons “Restore iPad” and “Restore from a copy”.

After clicking on the “Restore iPad” button, a small window will open asking you to confirm the iPad reset to factory settings. In this window, you need to click on the “Restore” button again and then iTunes will begin the process of resetting the settings on your iPad.

Resetting iPad via Settings

If you want to reset iPad to factory settings, then the easiest way is to use the corresponding function in Settings. To do this, you need to go to the iPad Settings and go there to the “Basic” section.

Then you need to scroll to the bottom of the list and open the “Reset” subsection.

This will take you to the section with settings related to factory reset on iPad. The following functions are available here: Reset All Settings, Erase Content and Settings, Erase Network Settings, Reset Home Button Settings, Reset Keyboard Dictionary, Reset Geolocation Settings. If you want to reset iPad to factory settings, then “Reset all settings” or “Erase content and settings” will suit you. Select one of these functions and follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

  • The “Erase all settings” function removes the settings of the iPad. All settings are reset to factory defaults, while your data remains intact. This function is suitable if you have any problems with the settings. For example, something freezes or does not work as it should.
  • The “Erase content and settings” function is a complete reset of the iPad to factory settings. When using this function, all settings will be reset to factory defaults, and user-generated content that was on the iPad will be deleted. This reset option is suitable if you plan to sell your iPad or just give it to another person for use.

Reset iPad via iTunes without password

If you have forgotten your Apple ID password, the instructions above will not work, because you SIMply cannot turn off Find iPad. If you find yourself in this situation, then you can try to reset iPad to factory settings using Recovery Mode.

Entering Recovery Mode is easy enough. To do this, you need to do the following:

  • Turn off iPad and wait a few minutes for all programs to finish their work and iPad turns off completely;
  • Press and hold the “Home” button to connect the iPad to the computer using a cable;
  • You need to hold the “Home” button until the iTunes icon and cable appear on the iPad screen;
  • After that, the “Home” button can be released, you have successfully entered the Recovery Mode.

After enabling Recovery Mode, you need to launch iTunes on your computer and click on the “Restore iPad” button. This way you can reset iPad to factory settings without Apple ID password.

If you need to exit Recovery Mode without using recovery, then just press the iPad’s power button and hold it until it starts to boot.

One of the important qualities of this function is Find My iPhone. And also quite convenient copying of files, applications, as well as including control of one computer using another synchronized computer using the Internet system.
  • What to do if iPhone freezes while updating. Force restart

We are considering a situation when the iPhone is frozen and the smartphone does not make any calls to action, such as the requirement to connect to iTunes. In cases where the image on the device screen froze, a banal forced reboot can help.

To do this, you need to SIMultaneously hold down the Home and Power buttons and hold them until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Depending on the severity of the failure, the frozen picture can be replaced by the same icon for connecting to iTunes and this means that the new version of iOS, unfortunately, could not be installed correctly.

Setting up and using iCloud on iPhone 5 / 5s

Apple uses a cloud called iCloud for storage. As soon as you started the phone, new information appears on it, settings convenient for you, important photos and notes. What to do so that they are not lost and not thrown off?

In this article, we will tell you about this method of storing and synchronizing information from a developer like Apple iCloud, as well as how to set up iCloud on iPhone 5s, 4s and 6.

Case 1. In fact, initially the iPhone \ iPad was activated with a different account

How can this be? But maybe. After all, even if you bought a new gadget, it is not a fact that it actually was. Some sellers are adept at hiding iCloud lock. It seems to you that the device is not tied to any account, you enter your own and it seems like everything is “OK”. But in fact, at the first attempt to flash it, you get an activation lock. The device SIMply does not accept the correct, as you think, Apple ID.

What to do? In most cases, this is a desperate situation. It is no longer possible to contact the seller, which means it is impossible to get the correct combination of username and password. As a result, we get a “brick”. The only way out is to pretend that you forgot the required data and act as in this article. The purchase receipt will be a significant help.

Error “Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this iPhone”. Looking for a solution!

Warm greetings to everyone! After updating the firmware on their iPhone or iPad, users may face such a big (I would even say. Gigantic!) Problem that all other errors seem to be just minor and insignificant troubles. What is it about? And now I’ll tell you everything in detail.

IOS devices have a wonderful (without any irony) Find iPhone feature. If it is enabled (how do you know?), Then for any action (whether it be a factory reset, recovery, flashing, etc.) in order to start using the gadget, you will be prompted to activate it. Enter your Apple ID and password (those that were installed prior to this operation). And this is where the most interesting, incomprehensible and often very sad begins 🙁

You are trying to enter the Apple ID and password that you have been using for a long time with this device, and you will see a warning like this: “This Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this iPhone.” How does this happen? After all:

    • Only you have used the device from the moment of purchase.
    • Only one (exclusively yours!) Pair of Apple ID and password has always been used in iPhone \ iPad.
    • In other places. On the Apple website, the web version of iCloud, iTunes, everything works fine and comes in. But on the gadget there is.

You persistently enter the correct pair of email and password, and the device stubbornly tells you that everything is wrong and this pair does not fit. These are the introductory data.

Let’s figure out why you cannot activate the device with your Apple ID account. Go!

Case 2. Apple error. Solved automatically

Yes, yes, Apple also sometimes “messes up”. And this “sometimes” happened relatively recently, when updating iOS to version 9. A lot of people got an error after updating. “Invalid Apple ID. It cannot be used to unlock this iPhone, please enter other details. ” And in fact they were left with a non-working device on hand. Apple tried to quickly fix everything, released a timely update and assured that it will not be so again. But is it true!?

    What can be done?

    • Update iTunes to the latest version.
    • The firmware should be downloaded by iTunes itself, you do not need to palm off anything downloaded from the Internet in advance. The software file must be up to date.
    • “Sewing” is mandatory through DFU.

What else can you do? It is worth trying to change the email domain to icloud for activation. For example, you have vasya9883291 @ indicated there. And you try to enter. Vasya9883291@iCloud.Ru

Also, it must be remembered that such problems can easily occur if Apple has any problems with the servers (find out the current state). For example, I recently could not log out of iCloud during the day because of this. In this case, as it is written in the subtitle, all problems will be solved automatically. You just have to wait.

Case 3: Apple’s Mistake. Can’t Solve It on Your Own

If everything described in the previous subtitle does not fit, then you have to call (you can write) to Support Apple. Here are her contacts.

Over, as users write, the first line of operators does not understand what they are talking about at all. You explain to them that there is only one Apple ID, you know it, the gadget prompts you to enter the correct pair of account (the device displays several letters from the email. And they match yours!), But they will stubbornly kick you off and say that when correct data error “Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this iPhone” is not possible.

What to do? Do not shout, do not row, but bend your line. Claim that the device is yours and that you want to use it. And thus try to get to the second line of those. Support. They tend to be more competent. However, get ready, perhaps you will be asked the answers to security questions (if you don’t remember, then change it in the account settings on the site, because there is access there!). And in especially difficult cases, a purchase receipt as proof that the gadget belongs to you. Although given the fact that you know the entire Apple ID and password, then most likely it will not come to proof.

    Backup

Before you reset iPhone 5 and erase its settings, you need to transfer everything to your computer. You can do this using iTunes or iTools. There is also the option of creating a backup in the cloud, it will suit you in the case of a configured iCloud account and the ability to connect your phone to the Internet via Wi-Fi.

All these SIMple manipulations are described in the article about creating backups, therefore, if this information is new for you, with the material, before going further.

    Reset iPhone via iTunes

You can also return your phone to its original settings using iTunes. To do this, connect the gadget to your computer, open iTunes and wait until the program detects your device.

    Reset iPhone via iTunes

After that, you just need to go to the tab of your phone and click the “Restore iPhone.” button. If you had Find My iPhone turned on, iTunes will ask you to turn it off. You just have to follow the request and disable “Find My iPhone” in the iCloud settings, and finally also refuse to select previously saved backups. Thus, the recovery process will begin, which will completely clear your device and return the settings to standard.

Reset iPhone Settings and Delete Data

I don’t want to start this article with guessing about why you needed to reset the iPhone, you just have to focus on the fact that the reset menu and the general reset menu are in the same place, so in the article we will combine the solution of both issues into a single whole.

Those of you who are looking for information about a regular factory reset can safely go down one point below and contemplate detailed instructions. For the rest of those who want to erase data from their phone, for example, for sale, we want to offer a certain sequence of actions so that later they do not bite their elbow.

If you decide, for example, to change your iPhone 5 to iPhone 6, then before that you need to complete three SIMple procedures: backup, reset all data and settings from iPhone 5, transfer information to a new i-gadget.

    Resetting all data and settings

Now that you’ve moved everything to a safe place, we can reset the iPhone.

    • Open “Settings”, find “General” and go down, there we will see “Reset”.
    • Go to the reset menu. 6 options open before us, and we are only interested in two. “Reset all settings” or “Erase content and settings”.

    Factory reset step by step

If you choose the first option, then you will not lose your data. Photos, music, contacts, etc., but only return your phone to the initial settings. This function is needed for those who experience malfunctions in the device, for example, problems with cellular communication, Internet settings, etc. So you will return the phone to the initial settings, without losing data.

And in order to completely reset the iPhone, you need the second option. Click on it and wait for the process to complete, which will last from two minutes or more, depending on the memory load. Thus, you will be able to erase everything that was on your iPhone, from settings to private photos. Now iPhone 5 is as clean as a baby’s tear. And you can safely transfer it to other hands.

Transferring information to a new device

After resetting the settings and content on the old smartphone, we need to transfer them to the new one. For this we need previously created backups. As you remember, there were two options. Via PC or the cloud. The transfer process is very SIMilar to restoring an iPhone from a backup, so we will not duplicate the information and just provide you with a link to the very article.

Do not forget to read the comments, there is also a lot of useful information. If there is no answer to your question, and there is an answer to later comments, then the answer to your question is contained in the article, respect someone else’s time.

    Face ID software problems

If you did not drop or chop nuts with your iPhone, then the problem may be related to the software. We all know that software is designed to hang and fail. If this is your case (and even if not yours), try the following steps:

    • STEP 1. Go to Settings. Face ID Passcode. Reset Face ID
    • STEP 2. Hard restart your iPhone by pressing the Volume down one by one. Volume. Then press and hold the Side button until the screen turns off.

After your device restarts, try setting up Face ID.

If Face ID became unavailable after installing an iOS update, most likely the firmware is “crooked”. The most correct solution would be to connect your phone to your computer and restore it via iTunes with the latest version of iOS installed. If you need instructions, see here.

Unfortunately, in my case, these manipulations did not help, as well as Reset All Settings and Soft Restart. But it should be clear to a hedgehog that after falling / hitting, something inside the iPhone is out of order.

What to do when Face ID is not available

Contact Apple Store for warranty. And this, in my opinion, is the best way out of this situation. Unfortunately, it is only suitable for iPhones that are still under warranty (usually 1 year). You can check the duration of the warranty by the serial number of the iPhone here on this page.

If your city does not have an official Apple Store or an authorized Apple service representative, the iPhone can always be sent by mail. To do this, you need to contact support (by phone or via chat) and agree to ship the device.

What’s more, Apple will provide you with packaging materials and pay for round trip shipping (this should work in most civilized countries).

This is exactly what I did with my iPhone X, which stopped working with Face ID. A friend of mine helped me get in touch with people who provide services for the delivery of defective iPhones from Ukraine to Warsaw. Because the phone is still on the way, I don’t know how it will end. As soon as something becomes clear, I will definitely update the information in this article.

Contact your local workshop. This is a lottery. The problem with unavailable Face ID is not yet well understood. All that general craftsmen can do is check the cables and all internal connectors. If they start changing modules or individual Face ID sensors, things could get worse. This is usually the case.

Chinese craftsmen have found that the main components of Face ID (IR camera, dot projector and IR emitter) are unique to each iPhone because tied to a specific motherboard.

From this it follows that the usual repair on the knee is unlikely to work here.

    Physical failure of Face ID

What exactly could go wrong with Face ID? And here is already HZ. To create a three-dimensional model of your face, a TrueDepth system is used, consisting of sensors and emitters (point projector, IR camera, IR emitter). It is difficult to say what exactly failed on impact.

I’ve searched through many forums and articles about Face ID not working on iPhone X, but I haven’t found a concrete answer yet.

It was possible to find only scraps of information that hint in which direction to dig at all. It turns out the TrueDepth camera is somehow connected to the telephoto lens (the one on the bottom) of the rear camera.

Apple even updated its Face ID troubleshooting routine for Genius Bar employees, where it clearly stated “The first step in troubleshooting Face ID is to try to replace the rear camera module.” If this does not help, the iPhone is replaced with a new one. Even Apple gives up.

From my personal observations of my iPhone X with a faulty Face ID, I can note the following:

    • Camera apps take 3-4 times longer to load than usual
    • The rear camera works seamlessly. And both lenses. All functions (portrait, slow-mo, etc.) work.
    • The front camera works, but Portrait mode no longer blurs the background. Apparently Face ID sensors are involved in determining the contour of your body.
    • During a FaceTime call, the front camera does not turn on and the message “Camera is being used by another application” appears on the screen.
    • The flashlight (the one built into the rear camera module) now lives its own life. In most cases, it will not turn on when asked. But it can make an exception and light up.

The above makes me think that perhaps the problem really lies in the rear camera module. Maybe the plume has moved away slightly, or something has broken off inside the camera itself.

All other phone functions are working properly.

    Why Face ID failed

So, how did my iPhone come to such a life that it doesn’t want to see me now? Everything to the point is SIMple. This morning I was fed up with a ladder. Sorry, but another word is hardly suitable here. The phone was in the right of my pants.

I landed successfully. On the stairs. But without fractures. I got off with a couple of solid bruises below the elbow and above the knee. Well, Face ID ordered to live long.

Apparently, during the 2-second flight, the iPhone hit the stairs, which slid out from under me. Although there is no damage on it, and in the case I always had it.

But the result is still sad. Now every time I want to set up Face ID, the message “Face ID is not available. Try to set up Face ID later” appears on the iPhone screen.

What conclusion can we make? If the iPhone X is unsuccessfully dropped or bumped, there is a good chance Face ID will SIMply stop working. Why this happens. We will discuss below.

Dropped iPhone X. Face ID is no longer available [Solution]

For a long time I was trying to write an article where I would describe possible problems with Face ID on the iPhone X, XS, XR and their possible solutions. But somehow everyone lacked experience and desire to seek information. And today, without expecting it, I faced this problem “face to face”. Surprisingly, this word turn has a double meaning here.

Today for the first time I saw on the screen of my iPhone the following message “Failed to activate Face ID on this iPhone”, and when I tried to set everything up again, “Face ID is not available”. It’s a shame, damn it! But let’s talk about everything in order.

    Face ID not available. Still!

Of course, without Face ID, the iPhone X does not “turn into a pumpkin”, but using it is no longer so convenient. Every time you pick up your iPhone, you have to enter a numeric password. And in the online banking application, you also have to remember passwords. But remember. THIS IS NOT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IN LIFE!

You can still use such a device. Alternatively, you can sell this iPhone at a “sweet price” and buy yourself a new XS.

I, in turn, thank God that I took money, not health. The main thing is that the arms and legs are intact.

Write in the comments what led to the breakdown of Face ID in your situation. Share your repair experience, even if it was unsuccessful. I hope that soon an UPDATE will be added to the article with the result of repairing my iPhone X.

UPDATE My phone was delivered to Warsaw Apple Store. This is done by people who make money on it. The price of the issue is about 30-40. The most important thing at this point is that the iPhone has been successfully adopted by a tech worker. Apple support. This means that back I have to get a fully working iPhone.

At the same time, I want to remind you that I did NOT send either a check or a box with the phone. Actually, I never had a check. A little over a month has passed since the dispatch.

UPDATE According to the latest data, the phone has been replaced with a new one. So Apple could not fix the problem with Face ID.

UPDATE After 2 months, I received a completely new iPhone X with exactly the same parameters as the previous device (the iPhone serial number naturally changed). The phone came in a film, wrapped in a soft envelope, without any accessories. There was a paper with the phone from iSpot (Apple official distributor in Poland).

Finally, I’m back with the iPhone. I won’t say that 2 months with the Galaxy Note 8 was a torment, but the iPhone is somehow more pleasant to use.

The experience gained above suggests that sometimes even Apple cannot fix a problem with Face ID, namely the state of the phone when “Face ID is not available.” This is why they just change your broken phone to a new device.

If you find yourself in a SIMilar situation, contact an authorized Apple representative and if everything is OK, your device will also be replaced.

    Reset

A SIMple restart of the device can also help solve the problem. To execute it, hold down the Power key and turn off the phone. You can also make a Hard Reset. To do this, hold down the Power and Home keys for a few seconds. If it doesn’t help, use factory reset.

    • Open the settings and go to the “Reset” section.
    • Select reset network settings.

If resetting network settings did not help, back up your device just in case and reset all settings.

    Reset all user settings

    Reboot Apple ID

Is the Internet working on the iPhone, but the applications are not updating? Try to log out of your App Store account and log in again.

    • Open the App Store on iPhone.
    • Go to the “Collection” tab.
    • Click on the account and select “Sign out”.
    • On the same page, log in again using your Apple ID.

Fix problems updating apps on iPhone

Applications are constantly being improved and improved by developers. Therefore, if you do not update any applications on the iPhone, then very soon you risk being left with irrelevant software. This will not cause serious problems, but the frozen update icon near the application is a great irritant, so you want to get rid of it as soon as possible.

Before you start dealing with iPhone apps not updating, make sure the problem is really with your phone. Ask other iPhone owners if the update works for them: there have already been situations when Apple servers stopped responding or the AppStore itself did not work. Apple experts try to quickly fix faults, but it is impossible to immediately normalize the work.

Reboot and factory reset. Checking the connection

If other iPhone owners have apps updating normally, and you’re having problems, check your internet connection first. Loss of mobile network signal or Wi-Fi disconnection may be causing the problem. To make sure that the Internet is working, open your browser and go to any page.

If the browser loads the pages, but the apps are not updated in the App Store, turn on / off the Airplane mode. When the mode is activated, all communication modules will be disabled, when deactivated, they will start again, at the same time eliminating the errors in operation, if any.

    Pause

A short stop of the download can also cope with the frozen application update icon. Tap on the program to stop the update. Then start downloading the updated version again by clicking on the icon again.

    Downloading and updating applications. Pause

    Working with applications

    Try to upload something else

The parallel launch of downloading other software helps to restore the download. Search the App Store for any free game or program and start downloading it to your iPhone. There is a possibility that after the start of the download, the suspended application update will continue.

If you can uninstall the program from the iPhone without serious consequences like losing important data, then do it.

    • Hold your finger on an app that can’t update.
    • Wait until the icon goes into editing mode, that is, it starts shaking on the screen.
    • Click on the cross that appears to uninstall the software.

    Sync with iTunes

If the above methods did not help to fix the crash, or you SIMply have no way to stop the download or uninstall the application, sync your purchases with iTunes.

    • Launch iTunes on Computer, Connect iPhone.
    • Log in with Apple ID (account must be the same on iPhone and iTunes).
    • Click “Sync”.

After synchronization, disconnect the smartphone from the computer and check if the software is updated now.
