The difference between iPhone x and XR
The iPhone XR has the same 12MP camera as the iPhone X. The front camera is the same. Supports Face ID, but works smarter and faster thanks to software optimization.
The only downside to the iPhone XR is the single rather than dual main camera module. But fortunately, Apple did not stint and installed in its most affordable smartphone the same camera as in the iPhone XS. over, if earlier a dual camera was necessary for a portrait photo mode, now it successfully works on a single module.
Powerful modern processor
As in the older versions, the iPhone XR uses the most powerful chip among Apple smartphones to date. A12 Bionic is significantly superior to the previous generation, which runs last year’s iPhone X.
This is the first 7nm chip on the market. It combines a six-core processor and a quad-core graphics accelerator, which is 50% faster than the iPhone X. In addition, the A12 Bionic works in conjunction with the next generation Neural Engine.
The improved neural network is capable of performing 5 trillion operations per second. Compare this to 600 billion operations per second for the iPhone X, which is very, very high. Such power may seem redundant and unclaimed, but in new applications involving massive computing, it will come in handy.
5 reasons to upgrade your iPhone X to the new iPhone XR
This is not such a crazy idea as it might seem at first glance.
iPhone XR is the most affordable among smartphones of the current generation, but in terms of filling it differs little from the iPhone XS and XS Max. The differences lie in the LCD display, single camera and aluminum body, otherwise this is the same flagship as its older versions.
It might seem crazy to switch to the iPhone XR from the most technologically advanced iPhone X before last night, but there are actually several good reasons. There are at least five of them.
High quality display, albeit LCD
Before you scold the iPhone XR, remember that it has a 6.1-inch display! And this, for a minute, is more not only last year’s iPhone X, but also the new iPhone XS.
Yes, it is made using LCD technology and has a density of only 326 pixels per inch, but this is exactly the same as in the iPhone 8, on which photos and applications looked great. At the same time, the iPhone XR supports True Tone and boasts a resolution of 1,792 × 828 pixels.
The only disadvantage of the display is the lack of 3D Touch. Although if Honor has that not everyone uses it, then this is not such a big loss. In addition, Apple’s senior vice president of marketing Phil Schiller said the company has not removed the technology, but replaced it with the Haptic touch system, which is similar to the one used in the MacBook Pro trackpads.
Many body colors
Since the iPhone 5C, Apple hasn’t really pampered us with a variety of body colors and has generally limited itself to standard silver, gray, and gold. The iPhone X was actually available in just two shades.
After that, the six different colors of the iPhone XR, including red, which usually show up after a few months, is a real treat. In addition to the standard white and black, blue, yellow, coral and the very exclusive red were added.
Extended capacity battery
At the presentation, we were told that the battery life of the iPhone XR has increased by a full hour and a half compared to the iPhone 8 Plus. This is a very decent result, as the latter was the longest-playing smartphone in Apple’s lineup. The iPhone 8 Plus boasted 14 hours of battery life compared to the 12 that the iPhone X provided. With that in mind, the iPhone XR can easily last 15 or even 16 hours.
iPhone X works autonomously on the Internet for 12 hours, iPhone XR backup. 15 hours! Even the iPhone 8 Plus can only last for 14 hours. You can talk on iPhone XR for 25 hours, watch videos. 16 hours, audio playback is 65 hours. With iPhone X, respectively. 21 hours of talk time, 13 hours of video, 60 hours of audio.
The iPhone XR has a larger display compared to the iPhone X. 6.1 inches versus 5.8, with a resolution of 1792 × 828 pixels (the iPhone X has a resolution of 2436 x 125). In terms of density, both the iPhone XR and the iPhone 8 are inferior to the “ten”: 326 pixels per inch, the iPhone X. 458 pixels. To reduce the cost of the model, an LCD display is used, and not OLED, as in the iPhone X. But it supports True Tone technology: depending on the illumination, it automatically provides a comfortable display for the user. Touch unlock is also possible even on the LCD. The downside is the lack of 3D Touch, although not everyone actually uses it. Also, the display is enclosed in a thick aluminum frame, which does not shine and is easier to scratch. IPhone X has a thinner, steel frame.
Both iPhones are IP67 rated to resist moisture, water and dust. This gives full protection against dust penetration into the case, protects against water for 30 minutes at a depth of up to a meter.

Every year Apple presents another iPhone. In September 2018, a new model was introduced. the iPhone XR. Curious to know what is the difference between the iPhone X and the iPhone XR? Read our article, especially since the latest is the most affordable smartphone of 2018.
Usually the company offers standard colors. gray, silver and gold. The iPhone X had only two shades at all. The iPhone XR has six body colors: white, black, blue, yellow, coral, red.
The iPhone XR has the most powerful 6-core A12 Bionic processor, more powerful than the A11, and 70% faster than the iPhone X. The A12 performs 5 trillion actions per second, while its predecessor has 600 billion actions. Why is all this necessary? For new applications that use grandiose computing.
The camera on the iPhone X and iPhone XR is the same. 12 megapixels. The front camera is also similar, but in the new product it works more efficiently due to software optimization. Equally important is the 5x zoom, the bokeh effect in the “Portrait” mode and the ability to edit the photograph after shooting. the “depth” function. Smart HDR allows you to take high quality photos in low light. The iPhone X doesn’t have all of this. The only “but” of the XR model is that the main camera has a single module, although it copes with the “Portrait” mode no worse than a dual module.
The iPhone XR, like its predecessor, has 3 GB of RAM, but the built-in version has three versions: 64 GB, 128, 256, as opposed to 64 GB and 256 iPhone X.
iPhone X or iPhone XR. what’s better? An objective review of Apple flagships
Which phone is better: iPhone X or iPhone XR? On September 12, a fresh version of the iPhone will be released, but for now, let’s figure out the characteristics of the existing flagships.
Guess where the iPhone X is and where the iPhone XR is from this shot. True, difficult?
After all, the frontal part of these two phones is almost identical, despite the difference in release of 1 year. iPhone X (2017), iPhone XR (2018). The price of phones is also not much different.
The iPhone X in the minimum configuration costs about 55,000 soms, and the iPhone XR about 50,000 soms. But if it seems to you that Apple in the new version simply duplicated its one of the most successful models, then you are mistaken. There are still differences between these phones.
Screen. one of the most important characteristics when choosing a phone. The iPhone X has a 5.8 OLED screen, which differs from the LCD on the iPhone XR and all previous models, in that the pixels emit their own light, while the latter uses LED backlighting. Because of this, the black color on the iPhone X looks better. The iPhone XR also has a lower resolution. 1792 × 828 pixels, while the iPhone XR. 2436 x 1125 pixels, but this is only noticeable on the smallest examination.
Another disadvantage of the iPhone XR in relation to the iPhone X. thick screen bezels. In addition, the new version of the phone does not have the 3D Touch function, it was removed as most of the users ignored it in the previous versions of the phone.
IPhone XR’s glass is thicker and tougher, which means it’s more likely to be safe if dropped.
|iPhone X||OLED screen, more pixels|
|iPhone XR||Strong glass|
As a result, it turns out that the design of the phones is practically the same. The iPhone XR has more colors and the iPhone X has a tighter bezel. The screen is better in the iPhone X, but in the iPhone XR it is also not bad, and if you look at it in the class of LCD screens, then it is generally the best. The camera is better in the iPhone X due to the second module, but more sophisticated in terms of capabilities in the iPhone XR, since it can record video in stereo sound. Also a clear advantage is a more powerful processor and a better battery.
Our conclusion is that when choosing between the iPhone XR and iPhone X, if you do not care about the presence of other colors besides white and black, and you pay great attention to pictures on the phone, then it is better to take the iPhone X, since it is minimally different from its newer fellow.
If battery capacity, processor power, and unusual design are important to you, the iPhone XR. what you need.
The camera in the iPhone X. is dual, in the iPhone XR. single, both of them support portrait mode with the only difference that in the iPhone XR it is carried out by the program and is suitable only for people. If on the iPhone X you can shoot different objects with a depth of field due to the fact that the second module prompts this depth, on the iPhone XR only slight blurred objects are possible, and then everything will depend on the shooting angle.
But, as you can see in the pictures, the brightness is better on the iPhone XR. By the way, for the front background to be seen more clearly in iPhone X photos, the photographer must move away. The iPhone XR, on the other hand, needs to stand close for this feature to turn on.
The front cameras of the iPhone X and iPhone XR are exactly the same in terms of shooting, with only one difference: the iPhone XR has Face ID a little faster, but only for a split second due to the higher processor power. IPhone XR also has the ability to record videos in stereo.
But the iPhone XR’s camera sticks out more, which means it’s less protected from drops.
|iPhone XR||Face ID is slightly faster|
|iPhone X||Portrait mode works on any subject|
The design of both phones is similar. Both phones are equipped with FaceID and Apple branded bangs. True, the iPhone XR is slightly larger than its predecessor.
The iPhone X’s color gamut is narrowed down to “silver” (white), “space gray” (black), while the iPhone XR has six colors in its arsenal (black, white, red, orange, yellow and blue) and two more are expected.
But the iPhone X has a steel frame that is less prone to warping, while the iPhone XR has an aluminum frame. iPhone XR is thicker (8.3mm) and heavier (194g) than iPhone X (7.7mm, 174g).
|iPhone XR||Color options|
|iPhone X||Steel frame, weight|
The iPhone XR has a 7nm A12 processor, while the iPhone X uses the A11. The difference is uncritical and almost imperceptible to the layman.
|iPhone XR||powerful processor|
The iPhone XR. 3174 mAh, and in the iPhone X.2716 mAh. Both phones support wireless charging, but the iPhone XR lasts 1.5-2 hours longer with the same frequency of use.
|iPhone XR||Large battery capacity|
The difference between the iPhone X and XR: comparison of iPhone 10 and 10r models
Wondering what is the difference between the iPhone X and XR, as you choose a model to buy or just keep track of all the changes in the lineup? We hope this article will help you understand this issue and make an informed choice for buying, especially since in our service in Nizhny Novgorod you will find a full range of models at very affordable prices.
How the iPhone X differs from the XR
As a rule, differences between models in one product line are less obvious than in smartphones of different generations. But still, a comparison of the iPhone X and XR will show what the real differences are, which smartphone is preferable in a particular situation, which is better for a particular user.
The moment of presentation and appearance in mass sales from Apple is always strictly fixed. In the case of the anniversary version X, ten, 10 (everyone chooses a convenient option). this is the fall of 2017, XR was introduced a year later, in 2018. That is, the developers actually had a year for revision, which they successfully used.
Segmentation and cost. To start comparing the iPhone X and iPhone XR is that in fact they belong to different classes: X. to the flagships, XR. to the middle segment, although, of course, such a classification with respect to Apple smartphones is very conditional. It is significant that at the moment, if we compare the iPhone X and Xp at a price, then the flagship of 2017 is more expensive than a younger gadget.
Design is the first thing you pay attention to when choosing a new product to buy. Externally, the iPhone 10 and iPhone XR are very similar, apart from the size. But the significant advantage of the XR is the color variety of the cases, as many as 6 options. In defiance of the standard silver and almost black versions of the dozens, the XR opposes bright and juicy shades, including yellow, blue, coral, red, which is not typical for Apple. In addition, the rear window is different. more durable and reliable.
The display characteristics add to the difference between the iPhone X and XR. If diagonally the advantages are on the XR side (5.8ʺ versus 6.1ʺ), then in terms of technology and, accordingly, the image quality is preferable on the side of the tenth model (Super Retina HD is objectively better than Liquid Retina HD). iPhone X wins in terms of screen resolution, number of pixels, contrast and other screen characteristics, this fact is stated by all users.
The camera’s technical capabilities are higher than X’s in digital and optical zoom. The actual comparison of the iPhone X and X Er cameras shows almost the same high image quality, excellent results in both cases. Possible technical imperfections on XR are eliminated due to the great capabilities of artificial intelligence.
The filling of smartphones primarily differs in the generation of the processor. A11 and A12, respectively, XR is more powerful, but in practice this difference is almost invisible. The clear advantage of the XR is the better uptime (up 2 hours). Such characteristics are achieved due to the introduction of energy-efficient operation of the processor, display, and other modules.
As a result of the comparison, we can summarize: iPhone X wins in terms of size, picture quality of the display, digital zoom; advantages of XR. color solutions of the case, screen diagonal, processor frequency, battery life, cost. Decide which phone is preferable for you, make yourself.
What do the colors look like?
The appearance of the devices is perfect. iPhone XR is available in the following colors: blue, white, black, yellow, coral, product red. iPhone X comes in 2 colors: Silver, Space Gray.
By the number of colors presented, we put the iPhone XR on the phone.

Size and weight
If you use your phone more often to view social networks than to make calls, then it is better to choose a smartphone with a larger screen size. iPhone XR wins in terms of screen size. iPhone X looks better in two ways: thickness and weight.
Processor, memory and battery
The iPhone XR has better parameters: processor frequency, phone life. iPhone X in this comparison could not compete.
- iPhone XR: 12MP f / 1.8 | optical image stabilization | new sensors with a pixel size of 1.4 microns | support for Smart HDR and Focus Pixels | updated portrait mode with manual adjustments for bokeh and blur
- iPhone 8: 12MP f / 1.8 | optical image stabilization | sensor with 1.22-micron pixels | Auto HDR and Focus Pixels support
Both smartphones are equipped with 12-megapixel main cameras. Although they look the same on the outside, the iPhone XR’s camera features a more powerful 1.4μm sensor. It also supports Smart HDR for improved dynamic range and detail. At the same time, both phones are capable of recording sound in stereo while shooting video.
Comparison of iPhone 8 and iPhone XR: what’s the difference?
The new iPhone XR replaces the iPhone 8 in Apple’s lineup. And although both models are the youngest in the lineup of their year, the difference between them is huge. But how much better is the iPhone XR and should you pay extra for it? Let’s compare iPhone XR and iPhone 8 and find out!
- Design and dimensions
- Storage device
- Main camera
- Biometric scanning
- iPhone XR: Face ID only
- iPhone 8: Touch ID only (scanner built into the Home button)
The lack of a fingerprint scanner is definitely a disadvantage for many. However, the 2018 iPhone lineup uses the second generation of Face ID. even faster and more accurate than the iPhone X.
- iPhone XR: 64GB, 128GB, 256GB
- iPhone 8: 64GB, 256GB
The new iPhone XR is available in an intermediate 128GB variant. This version was lacking for many potential iPhone 8 buyers, and it is possible that Apple simply responded to this user request.
- iPhone XR: 6.1-inch True Tone LCD Display | 1792 x 828 pixels (326 ppi) | no 3D Touch
- iPhone 8: 4.7-inch True Tone LCD Display | 1334 x 750 pixels (326 ppi) | 3D Touch support
The iPhone XR is the first to feature a Liquid Retina display that is larger than the iPhone 8 in both size and resolution. Apple claims this is the best display in terms of color reproduction to date. However, unlike the 4.7-inch iPhone 8, the iPhone XR does not support 3D Touch. It’s important to note that the pixel density is the same for both models: the increased resolution in the iPhone XR only compensates for its size.
Design and dimensions
- iPhone XR: 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3mm | 194 g | IP67 certified
- iPhone 8: 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3mm | 148 g | IP67 certified
The dimensions of the iPhone XR are significantly larger than the iPhone 8. This is largely due to the fact that the former was equipped with an enlarged 6.1-inch LCD-display. Despite the 1.4-inch difference in screen size, the iPhone XR manages to stay quite compact due to its bezel-less design. Both smartphones are IP67 certified. Unlike iPhone 8, iPhone XR is available in more colors. including blue, yellow and coral.
- iPhone XR: Dual SIM (regular eSIM), LTE-A | Bluetooth 5.0, VoLTE, NFC
- iPhone 8: Single SIM, LTE-A | Bluetooth 5.0, VoLTE, NFC
On this point, the devices are identical with one exception: the iPhone XR has support for a second SIM card. True, in Russia this is not yet relevant, given that our country does not yet have an eSIM standard.
- iPhone XR: 7MP TrueDepth with f / 2.2 aperture | Flash Retina Flash | Smart HDR support | updated portrait mode with manual adjustments for bokeh and blur
- iPhone 8: 7MP FaceTime HD with f / 2.2 aperture | Flash Retina Flash | Auto HDR support
The 7MP front-facing camera has received a number of improvements in the iPhone XR. First is TrueDepth. that is, this camera powers Face ID, Memoji, and Animoji. Finally, it has a portrait mode that lets you simulate professional photography for the best selfies.
If you compare the screens of the iPhone X and iPhone XR, then they are completely different. The main difference is the screen production technology. The iPhone X uses OLED, while the iPhone XR uses an IPS display. Due to the difference in technology, the data displays of the two types look slightly different. OLED has deep blacks as well as brighter, more saturated and slightly acidic colors. IPS. on the contrary, it has natural color reproduction, but its black color looks more like a dark gray.
In addition, the OLED display is more economical on battery power, has a minimum response time and a 180-degree viewing angle. But, at the same time, OLED burns out over time and is not as safe for the eyes. In general, both OLED and IPS displays have both advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, it cannot be said that OLED is definitely better than IPS. The choice between these two display technologies is more a matter of taste.
iPhone XR vs iPhone X
It should also be noted that there are differences in the size and resolution of the screens. The iPhone XR has a 6.1-inch display with a 1792 × 828 resolution, while the iPhone X has a 5.8-inch screen with a 2436 × 1125 resolution. As you can see, the iPhone XR has a noticeably lower resolution with a larger screen. But, this is not a very serious drawback. The XR has a pixel density of 326 ppi, which matches the pixel density of the iPhone 8.
But, the iPhone XR’s screen also has some significant simplifications. For example, in this smartphone, Apple decided to abandon the use of 3D Touch technology. Instead, it now uses the Haptic touch, which migrated here from the MacBook Pro trackpad.
Differences in design
There are a number of notable design differences between the iPhone X and the iPhone XR, but these are largely determined by changes in specifications. For example, the larger screen makes the iPhone XR slightly larger than the iPhone X, and the lack of a second camera, the back of the device looks similar to the iPhone 8.
The rest of the design is quite similar. The iPhone XR has rounded edges, a metal bezel on the sides, and minimal bezels around the display. In both devices, the screen occupies almost the entire front panel. Like the iPhone X, there is a small notch at the top of the iPhone XR screen that houses the sensors and the front camera.
Perhaps the most important design difference is the range of colors available. If the iPhone X is only available in silver and dark gray, then the XR is available in six different colors at once: blue, white, black, yellow, coral, red.
Comparison of iPhone X and iPhone XR: the main differences
In the fall of 2018, the traditional presentation of new Apple products took place. During which, three new smartphones and a new smart watch were presented at once. One of the most interesting novelties of this presentation was the budget iPhone XR. In this article, you can see the comparison between iPhone X and iPhone XR, as well as find out how the two phones differ.
In terms of hardware, the difference between the iPhone X and the iPhone XR is the new processor. The iPhone X uses a 10nm 64-bit 6-core A11 Bionic processor, while the iPhone XR uses a 64-bit 6-core 7nm A12 Bionic processor.
Reducing the technical process allowed to make the new processor more productive and at the same time reduce its power consumption. According to information provided by Apple, compared to its predecessor, the new processor provides a performance increase of up to 15% and consumes 50% less energy. At the same time, the new chip has many improvements that are aimed at more efficient work with neural networks and artificial intelligence. Also, there is an increase in the performance of integrated graphics (up to 50%).
The coprocessor of the novelty also received a number of significant improvements. For example, the number of cores increased from 2 to 8, and the number of processed operations increased from 600 billion to 5 trillion operations per second.
It may seem that this performance is somewhat overkill. But, it is already being used in practice, for example, new functions in the camera application became possible precisely thanks to the new processor.
Difference between cameras
There is also a significant difference between the cameras on the iPhone X and iPhone XR. While the iPhone X has two cameras on the back of the device, the iPhone XR has only one camera. At the same time, in terms of its characteristics, the XR camera is in many ways similar to the iPhone 8. It is a 12 megapixel camera, with OIS and ди / 1.8 aperture.
iPhone X vs iPhone XR. Which Should You Choose?
But the iPhone XR has received a number of camera software improvements that set it apart from the iPhone X and iPhone 8. For example, the XR camera has a Portrait mode with improved bokeh, Depth function, and Smart HDR. Thanks to these changes, the iPhone XR takes photos just as well as the iPhone X, and in many situations, the pictures are even better.
Putting it all together, the only significant benefit of the iPhone X is the dual camera module, which allows for dual optical zoom. Otherwise, the iPhone XR’s camera is the same or better.
Differences in autonomy
Another notable difference between the iPhone X and the iPhone XR is battery life. With a new, more efficient processor and a larger battery, the battery life of the iPhone XR is noticeably longer. During the presentation, Apple announced that this new product will be able to work for an hour and a half more than the iPhone 8 Plus, which was famous for its autonomy.
If we compare it with the iPhone X, the difference in autonomy is even more noticeable. According to information from the Apple website, the iPhone X smartphone can work 21 hours of talk time, 12 hours of Internet use, 13 hours of video playback and 60 hours of music playback. Whereas the iPhone XR can provide 25 hours of talk time, 15 hours of internet use, 16 hours of video playback and 65 hours of music playback.
A special test for those who like to take pictures of flowers:
It seems to me that everything is simple here: the iPhone X brazenly laid the XR on its “shoulder blades”, calling it an ignorant puppy. The new iPhone proved to be very mediocre: the dynamic range is extremely narrow. the flowers are so oversaturated that the edges of the petals are simply not visible. They have acquired an extremely wry-eyed shade of pink. My eyes are dazzled by them.
On the crop, exactly the same thing happened: the petals of this flower merged into one solid pink mess in the picture taken with the XR. “Ten” coped much better, and the shades look much more natural.
Now let’s turn to the Soviet auto industry. Who else likes the VoLGa, which is the GAZ-24?
In the photo, we again see the meager dynamic range of the iPhone XR compared to the camera of the 10. But in general, both photos are of acceptable quality. Now let’s get down to the details.
The large sensor again makes itself felt. with the crop, the pictures taken on the XR look sharper. Thanks for this and the greater contrast of the images. In this photo, it is easier to see the headlight details and stains on the chrome bumper.
And in this photo, everything is much more obvious. In the photo taken with the iPhone XR, there are no such highlights as in the photo taken with the top ten. Smart HDR does an excellent job in this regard. But the XR image looks warmer. the difference in reds is very easy to spot. That is, for the objectivity of color rendering, XR catches a minus.
When you zoom in, the difference between the two generations of cameras looks much more obvious: I don’t understand why the iPhone X shot so badly. And it’s not out of focus, no. It is exactly on the red car, as we installed it. But for the sale of cars on “Avito” will come down.
Compare cameras iPhone X and iPhone XR
And we are trying to figure out what to buy for plus or minus the same prices.
Many people ask us what to choose: iPhone X or XR? There really is a reason to think: the screen and the battery are larger, the processor is more powerful, and many different body colors. And the are now about the same for both models.
One of the main criteria for many is the camera. As we found out, the main module of the iPhone XR is indistinguishable from the main module of the iPhone XS or XS Max. There are even the same lenses! Which makes the pictures as similar to each other as possible:
Street by day
If in the previous comparison it was necessary to peer directly to see at least some difference, then everything is much more obvious.
First, different angles: more objects fit into the iPhone XR lens.
Second, colors: matrices work differently.
Thirdly, a different dynamic range. And because of the Smart HDR mode of the new single-camera iPhone, it is much worse than the “dozen”.
The facade of the house is also painted differently. I would like to note that it looks more natural with the “ten”. In general, a photo taken with XR looks warmer.
When zoomed in, we see the same problems: the XR has poorer dynamic range. But the picture looks clearer in details. the greater the contrast of the image helps. The large matrix also makes itself felt: the door came out more detailed, like the stains on the wall holding the slope.
So, the iPhone X gets a plus for dynamic range and white balance, and the iPhone XR for detail and clarity.
The iPhone XR was the first single-camera iPhone capable of portraits. True, the effect of depth of field is achieved here not due to the second module (that is, the first), but due to the work of the graphics processor. And because of this, these two photos look very different: the iPhone X, like all Plus-versions of iPhones, as well as the new iPhone XS, takes photos in portrait mode on the second module, which changes the focal length. the object just gets closer. The same thing happens with 2x zoom on dual-camera iPhones. Just in case, I emphasize that both pictures were taken from the same point.
And just due to the change of the module, one should expect a decrease in the quality of the image, since the aperture of additional cameras is usually not so wide open, that is, the shutter speed will be much longer under the same conditions, and with a slight shake, the photo will be blurry. The size of the camera sensor itself also decides. the second module traditionally receives a smaller and worse matrix.
In the picture taken on XR, you can see how well the only module copes in contrasting places. where our editor-in-chief Sasha Pobyvanets stands in a dark blue sweater, A12 reads it as if there is a second depth module.
But with the crop, we see how the camera works: even the relatively contrasting right ear is not blurry very well. Unlike the picture taken on the iPhone X. But the processing of the photo looks better in the XR: the camera removed unnecessary redness of the skin, adding a little healthy warmth to the face.
If we consider this photo just as a snapshot, then, of course, the iPhone XR wins: more detailed, there are no unnecessary colors. But if you look at this photo as a portrait with a blurred background, then the iPhone X wins: the second module does better than the processor so far.
It’s all very complicated: comparing the cameras of the iPhone XR and XS
24 October 2018
Each model has its own set of obvious pros and cons. The second camera module with a 2x zoom and depth of field effect not only in portraits, but also in subject photography can be inclined to buy a “dozen”. In favor of the XR is a large camera sensor with a large pixel size, as well as a long-awaited wide-angle lens. And the coprocessor responsible for image processing, together with the A12, should also work better in theory.!
But oral arguments are not enough for me personally. Therefore, let’s look at the pictures taken with both smartphones.
As in our previous camera comparisons, you can view all the images in their original resolution by tapping on them.
And again, the great Smart HDR works wonders: you can easily see that there are some inscriptions on the board, and the lights and headlights of cars are not just light in the photo. But the dramatic sky has ceased to look like that, it has lost its volume.
The iPhone XR wins again on crops: more details. behind the backlit sign you can see that the Higher School of Economics is located in that building in the distance, and we are on Myasnitskaya Street, for which thanks to the information board. From the photo taken on the iPhone X, this is generally incomprehensible.
But our editor-in-chief remembered that smartphones have cameras in front, and went to do selfies.
And again, the iPhone XR did better than the “dozen”: smoother skin tone, no shiny highlights. But the angle is still not enough for the lens. competitors fit much more into the frame.
The iPhone XR is subtle, but brightens the eyes a little. that’s good in some places. Since this effect is very mild here, I will attribute it to the advantages of the camera. Also in the selfie, the development of TrueDepth technology is noticeable, projecting points on the face to unlock the smartphone or to shoot “selfies” with the effect of depth of field: the edges of the ears are processed much better than the “ten”.
Plays in favor of XR and an even skin tone without glare, as I said earlier. At the same time, the picture has much more sharpness, because of which you can see the texture of Sasha’s iris. this is definitely a plus. But for my taste, XR brings sharpness right to the brink, just a little more and it would be very bad.
Prospoiler the following test: we already have photos ready for a very global comparison of the flagship cameras and, at least with the front camera, we got a very unexpected result. If you are wondering who won, stay with us.
If you choose a smartphone by camera, do not photograph hyper pink flowers in macro, you are not very confused by the poor dynamic range and the lack of 2x optical zoom, then take the iPhone XR. For a single camera smartphone, he did really, really well.
With the iPhone X, a rather strange situation turned out: on its screen, the photos look great, but if you throw them off on a PC, all the magic disappears. Apple what’s going on?
It is all the more strange that in previous tests, where we compared the cameras of the iPhone XS Max and iPhone 7 Plus, the “seven” confidently held the top in many scenarios. And Max and XR have exactly the same cameras. That is, it turns out that the 7 Plus shoots better than “tens”? Seems like some kind of nonsense, yeah?
