This gives the impression that the optical image stabilization did not work, although this is not the case. At the same time, there is a place for a fairly strong oversharp. As a result, the initial positive impression is greatly blurred.
We also noted the wide dynamic range. Here you can turn it on and off manually. But we, remembering the work with Sony Xperia, did not do this, relying on automation. As a result, we got highly detailed shots under difficult lighting conditions: the building, objects and the sky were well exposed, the images came out really high quality.
The Sony Xperia 1 has the ability to blur the background. Over, this is not a dedicated Bokeh mode, as it was before, but a separate button in the upper interface panel. It is the portraits of the Sony Xperia 1 that come out well. By the way, the device immediately switches to a camera with a 52 mm zoom lens (equiv.), But if you complicate the task and use a non-trivial object, problems begin: the contours are not worked out clearly.
Then we moved on to shooting indoors. It is worth mentioning here one interesting feature of the Sony Xperia 1 smartphone, or rather its ultra-wide-angle camera. In our opinion, the choice is obvious.
In general, it is not clear why the Japanese company decided to bury this item in the settings. For example, conventional HUAWEI and Samsung always try to make the image of sufficient quality and provide distortion correction. The creative idea of Sony engineers is hardly an excuse here. For example, two shots of a copy of David in Artplay with distortion correction enabled / disabled.
Let’s go back to indoor photography. Here the Sony Xperia 1 performs well again: accurate focus, natural colors, correct exposure. However, the problems are the same as during the daytime shooting, oversharp and mess from processing algorithms. But we believe that this can be fixed with a patch or update, the problem is clearly with the software.

What happens to a smartphone at night? Does the Sony Xperia turn into a pumpkin like Cinderella’s carriage? No, it does not transform. Although the problems with excessive processing by algorithms and oversharp remain the same, all lenses can take high-quality images.
However, there is one but. The fact is that the automation of the smartphone itself decides whether to turn on the zoom lens or use the main one with a higher aperture ratio. As a result, many 2x zoom shots are cropped images from the main camera. There are, of course, exceptions, but rarely (for example, in cases where the subject is well lit).
The super wide-angle lens always works, but the image quality is much lower here. There are big problems with stray light from flashlights and the inability to adjust exposure compensation.
In general, the camera interface, although it has become noticeably more convenient, still requires serious improvements. So, when you select the focus point and exposure, the interface for switching between cameras disappears on the screen. Instead, image brightness correction appears, and it becomes simply impossible to quickly switch between cameras.
In addition, we missed the Multiple Exposure Night mode. Almost all players in the mobile technology market have already done this, except, oddly enough, striving for premium Samsung, Apple and Sony.
In general, the Sony Xperia 1 shoots quite well, especially at night.
The front camera, despite the low resolution, is quite good. Surprisingly, the camera lacks background blur and beautification by default. For lovers of these modes, there is a Selfie Portrait function. It is selected in the mode menu.
The overall image quality on the front camera is high. Hair and skin texture are well drawn. We can only complain about the focal length of 24 mm (equiv.). With such a lens, the face geometry looks strange and unnatural.
We mentioned above that the Sony Xperia 1 is in many ways a cinematographic flagship. In addition to the display and the one-year OKKO subscription, anyone can take advantage of the Cinema Pro app, developed by Sony in conjunction with the CineAlta Film Division. This application is almost a real director’s console with the ability to switch between lenses, manually translate focus, apply various settings and special bows that change the color of the picture.
It is worth knowing that resolution, number of frames and bow are selected only when creating a new project. Everything here is real, directorial. Plus, you need to shoot exclusively horizontally: we’re talking about classic cinema. In general, you won’t be able to shoot a cool story with a bow and special effects.
It is also worth noting that there are no editing tools on the Sony Xperia 1, and you cannot trim the beginning and end of the take. In addition, there is no way to choose a color temperature when setting the white balance, you have to be content with a few presets.
As a result, the impression from Cinema Pro is mixed. On the one hand, we have before us a cool program that allows you to shoot at an advanced level. On the other hand, there are a number of significant simplifications, at least strange. In addition, the presence of such a program in the absence of the ability to immediately mount raises many questions. Well, besides the Venica CS bow, the rest look usually and uninteresting. I would like more decent presets and, in addition, additions in the form of the ability to create a bow yourself!
But at the same time it should be noted that the quality itself has increased by an order of magnitude. This is really a cinematic picture received on a smartphone.

Sony Xperia 1 even before its announcement began to excite the public. I remember the wave of rumors about several flagship devices, the new name of the line and, of course, the unusual aspect ratio, hitherto unknown to the mobile phone market. Further more. At the press preview of the device, we saw only a blank of the flagship, and the aspect ratio of the display was studied using the new products of the middle segment Sony Xperia 10 and Sony Xperia 10 Plus.
