Screen Share LG Windows 10 How To Connect
Miracast is one of the technologies for wireless transfer of image and sound to a TV or monitor, easy to use and supported by many devices, including computers and laptops with Windows 10, with the appropriate Wi-Fi adapter (see How to connect the TV to a computer or laptop via Wi-Fi).
This tutorial is about how to enable Miracast in Windows 10 to connect your TV as a wireless monitor, as well as the reasons why this connection fails and how to fix them. Please note that your computer or laptop with Windows 10 can be used as a wireless monitor.
Connect to a TV or wireless monitor using Miracast
In order to turn on Miracast and transfer the image to the TV via Wi-Fi, in Windows 10 it is enough to press the WinP keys (where Win is the key with the Windows logo, and P is Latin).
At the bottom of the list of display projection options, select “Connect to a wireless display” (for what to do if there is no such item, see below).
The search for wireless displays (monitors, TVs and the like) will begin. After the desired screen is found (note that for most TVs, you must first turn them on), select it in the list.
After selection, the connection for Miracast transmission will start (it may take some time), and then, if everything went smoothly, you will see a monitor image on your TV or other wireless display.
If Miracast does not work on Windows 10
Despite the simplicity of the necessary steps to enable Miracast, often not everything works as expected. Further, there are possible problems when connecting wireless monitors and ways to fix them.
The device does not support Miracast
If the item “Connect to a wireless display” is not displayed, then usually this indicates one of two things:
- Existing Wi-Fi adapter does not support Miracast
- Missing required Wi-Fi adapter drivers
The second sign that one of these two points is the display of the message “PC or mobile device does not support Miracast, therefore, wireless projection from it is impossible.”
If your laptop, all-in-one, or a computer with a Wi-Fi adapter was released before 2012-2013, it can be assumed that this is due to the lack of Miracast support (but not necessarily). If they are newer, then it is more likely that the drivers of the wireless network adapter are the case.
In this case, the main and only recommendation is to go to the official website of the manufacturer of your laptop, candy bar or, possibly, a separate Wi-Fi adapter (if you purchased it for a PC), download the official WLAN (Wi-Fi) drivers from there and install them. By the way, if you didn’t manually install the chipset drivers (but relied on the ones that Windows 10 installed myself), it’s better to install them from the official site as well.
At the same time, even if there are no official drivers for Windows 10, you should try those that are presented for versions 8.1, 8 or 7. Miracast can also make money on them.
Cannot connect to a TV (wireless display)
The second common situation. The search for wireless displays in Windows 10 works, but after selecting for a long time there is a connection via Miracast to the TV, after which you see a message stating that it was not possible to connect.
In this situation, installing the latest official drivers on a Wi-Fi adapter can help (as described above, be sure to try), but, unfortunately, not always.
And for this case I don’t have clear solutions, there are only observations: this problem most often occurs on laptops and all-in-ones with Intel processors of the 2nd and 3rd generation, that is, not on the newest equipment (respectively, Wi.Fi adapters are also not the latest). It also happens that on these devices, the Miracast connection works for some TVs and does not work for others.
From here I can only make the assumption that the problem with connecting to wireless displays in this case may be caused by incomplete support of the Miracast technology option (or some nuances of this technology) used by Windows 10 or on the TV side from older equipment. Another option is the incorrect operation of this equipment in Windows 10 (if, for example, Miracast turned on without problems in 8 and 8.1). If your task is to watch movies from your computer on your TV, then you can configure DLNA in Windows 10, this should work.
That is all I can offer at the current time. If you have or had problems with the operation of Miracast to connect to a TV. Share in the comments both problems and possible solutions. See also: How to connect a laptop to a TV (wired connection).
