We can say about the camera that it shoots very well. but with an important clarification: only in good lighting. During the day on the street, the pictures are obtained with decent detail and sharpness, the color rendition is normal. The center object of the frame from the background in live focus mode is not very neatly cropped out, but it is acceptable. There are almost no lubricants. The camera, of course, cannot boast of the true breadth of the dynamic range, but at least the face is obtained with adequate illumination. Unfortunately, from a series of 10 selfie shots in different indoor conditions, we did not get a single really good shot: the light sensitivity immediately rises to at least ISO 200, and at the same time, there is no need to talk about the details of the pictures. they are suitable for avatars and social networks and for displaying from the phone screen, but they do not pull at a full-fledged portrait, which is not ashamed to be shown on the monitor. In addition, in such conditions, blur becomes a constant companion of selfie shooting. In general, the selfie camera is ambiguous, and we cannot confidently call it a plus of the phone. Another thing is that we have not seen anything fundamentally better with inexpensive solutions, so here the Galaxy A50 looks competitive.

The rear camera of the Samsung Galaxy A50 consists of three modules. The main one has a sensor with a resolution of 25 megapixels and a lens with an aperture of f / 1.7 (pixel size 1.25 microns), but by default it shoots at 12 megapixels. To go to the maximum resolution of 25 megapixels, you must guess to press the same mysterious button “3: 4H” in the viewfinder, and there is no such item in the settings menu. Additional module. wide-angle, with a viewing angle of 123 degrees. The sensor resolution here is 8 megapixels, the lens aperture is f / 2.2. There is an HDR mode that does not work at a maximum resolution of 25 megapixels, you can enable background blur, and there is also a manual settings mode. There is no standard ability to save pictures in RAW, but for some reason they added a mode for saving HEIF files, which not every photo processing program recognizes.

To be honest, we expected more from the main camera. No, the quality of the pictures is not bad, and if you are switching to the Galaxy A50 from some not very expensive old phone, then nothing will confuse you here. However, now 2019 is in full swing, and we have already seen serious improvements in the quality of pictures, including in very inexpensive smartphones. the same Redmi Note 7, so as not to go far for examples. Yes, the shots on the Galaxy A50 are good, especially for a low-cost smartphone. However, Samsung seems to be a little behind the current situation and does not quite correctly interpret the word “inexpensive”. The same Redmi Note 7 is sold for 3-4 thousand cheaper, and the comparison of cameras here is a little not in favor of the Samsung smartphone. However, of course, the smartphone is not limited to cameras alone. So, if we talk about the Galaxy A50 itself, then the pictures are clearly lacking in detail and, especially, sharpness. Actually, from the pictures obtained during the entire photo session, we can only call a few acceptably clear, on the rest there is some kind of haze all the time, on the verge of blurring. But as if that weren’t enough, the sharpness also drops sharply towards the edges, and far from the last 10% in width. It seems that these images are not designed to be viewed in full size at all. Again, a couple of years ago it was normal, but now it is no longer. Apparently, the source of the constantly blurred picture is an aggressive fight against noise, and at least we almost succeeded in defeating them: there are traces only in “uncomfortable” shadows in low light. The color rendition in the pictures is generally adequate, but the picture looks dull, here it would seem, and add juiciness. A smartphone is practically unsuitable for night shooting. unless you are satisfied with a picture the size of an avatar.

Yes, there seems to be a reserve in the form of switching to a resolution of 25 megapixels, but in practice there is no point in this: this is not RAW with pixel noise, the picture is still blurry and very weak. There is nothing to say about night shots. To be fair, the comparable in cost Redmi Note 7 (as opposed to the much more expensive Xiaomi Mi 9) has a high-resolution mode (in his case. 48 megapixels) is also completely useless.

The wide-angle camera, unfortunately, is also quite consistent with models from 2-3 years ago. Even with a not too high resolution of images, the drop in the quality of the relative main camera is striking, geometric distortions are very serious, and the picture at the edges of the frame can give only the most general idea of ​​the subject of shooting. To be honest, it’s not even very clear why such a module is needed. It is unlikely that anyone would think to switch to it in order to completely fit into the frame some, say, a beautiful building: the result will be very far from beauty.

The video camera can shoot video in a maximum resolution of 2336 × 1080 at 30 fps, there is no optical stabilization. The camera shoots video well, even at night it does not fail in sharpness and detail, bright light spots do not blur into blots, there are not so many multi-colored noises. Even with shooting on the go, everything is fine, although the stabilization is not optical, but electronic. The sound is recorded sensitively, and the noise reduction system copes with its role quite well.

Display J1, given the budgetary status of the device, did not receive an oleophobic coating. However, even without it, the finger glides on the glass well, and fingerprints, which quickly cover the screen with active use, are easily eliminated. Multi-touch supports two simultaneous touches.
