Installing Windows 10 on Asus X205TA
I decided to prepare a detailed step-by-step instruction on how to install Windows 10 from a flash drive on a laptop, or on a normal desktop computer. We’ll take a look at installing specifically from a USB drive. Installation from the disk is almost no different and you can install the system following these instructions. Actually the whole process of Windows 10 installation is not very different from the same Windows 8, or D7. So if you already have experience, you’ll install without any problems.
I will install on a laptop Asus, that is, I will show a real example, with real photos. If you want to install Windows 10 on a new computer instead of an already installed system, or even next to an installed system at all, just follow the instructions below, everything will work. We will be performing a clean installation of Windows 10, rather than updating an already installed system.
If you want to install the operating system on your laptop, you may find it easier to do it with a separate instruction: how to install Windows 10 on a laptop.
Let’s divide the instruction into several sections, it’s easier and clearer that way.
Booting Asus laptops from a flash drive
In general terms, the algorithm repeats the same for all the method, but there are a few nuances, which we will get acquainted with further.
Of course, you will need a bootable flash drive itself. Methods of creating such a drive is described below. Read more: Instructions for creating a multi-boot and bootable USB flash drive with Windows and Ubuntu
Note that at this stage most often problems occur, as described below in the relevant section of the article!
In case of any problems read the following.
There is a second variant that is even easier and quicker to perform.
Press the “Esc” key several times when switching on the notebook to enter the boot menu. In the window that will appear you will need to select the name of the mass storage device, and then press the Enter key. Done! Now the computer will boot from the selected flash card.
With these simple operations you can boot your Asus laptop from a flash drive. Previously, this procedure was done with the help of CD- and DVD-drives, but because of their current unpopularity, many models of Asus are produced without a device for their reading. That is why it is important to be able to do without them in some situations.
If none of the options described in the article bring a positive result, you need to contact a specialized service for maintenance, because it can signal a serious problem in the system. You shouldn’t try to solve them yourself as it can make the problem worse. It is better to resort to the help of professionals.
Asus notebooks are known for their quality and reliability. The devices of this manufacturer, like many others, support booting from external storage media, such as flash drives. Today we will examine this procedure in detail and look at possible problems and their solutions.
Solutions for possible problems
Alas, the process of booting from a flash drive on an Asus laptop is not always successful. Let us discuss the most common problems.
BIOS doesn’t see the USB flash drive
Perhaps the most common problem with booting from USB. We already have an article about this problem and its solutions. However, on some laptops (e.g. Asus X55A) there are settings in the BIOS which need to be disabled. It is done like this.
Go to BIOS. Go to the tab “Security”, go to the item “Secure Boot Control” and turn it off by selecting “Disabled”.
To save the settings, press the F10 key and restart your notebook.
Find the “Launch CSM” option and switch it on (it is in the “Enabled” position). Press F10 again and restart the laptop. After these steps the flash drive should be correctly recognized.
The second cause of the problem is typical for flash drives with preinstalled Windows 7. it is an incorrect partitioning scheme. For a long time the MBR format was the main one, but with the release of Windows 8 the GPT format is now the main one. To solve the problem, rewrite your flash drive with Rufus, selecting “MBR for computers with BIOS or UEFI” under “System interface layout and type” and set the file system to “FAT32”.
The third reason is a problem with the USB port or the USB flash drive. Check the socket first. plug the drive into a different port. If the problem is observed, check the flash drive by inserting it into a known working slot on another device.
The keyboard and touchpad do not work while booting from the flash drive
This is a rare problem, typical for newer laptops. The solution is absurdly simple. plug external control devices into free USB sockets.
What to do after installing?
If during the installation you have not entered the key, then the first thing I advise you to do is activate Windows 10. You can find many interesting and working ways on the internet.
Next, I advise you to enter the device manager, and make sure that all the necessary drivers are installed. If no, there are unknown devices, or something does not work, then download and install the necessary drivers. Just do not download them from anywhere. You have a laptop of a certain manufacturer and a certain model (which is most likely indicated on a sticker below). Go to the manufacturer’s official website, search through the site page of your model, and there should be a section with downloads of drivers and necessary utilities. I can’t give you more specific instructions, it all depends on the specific manufacturer.
Next, download and install the necessary programs. Antivirus. Favorite Internet Browser. You may well like the new, standard Microsoft Edge browser. It’s really not bad.

I really hope that this tutorial was helpful to you, and you completed the installation of Windows 10 on your laptop without any problems. over, now you know how to do it yourself, and no longer have to seek help from “experts”, and even pay them. How to install Windows 7 on new laptops?
Our current patient is a laptop Asus x541n, which initially does not accept the installation of Windows 7, only Windows 10. But for some reason you need to install an older version. So in my case, the man asked to install on his new laptop vintage Windows 7. The following ways will be useful not only for Asus x541n, but also for any other new laptops, which need to install Windows 7 or older versions.
First, we need to properly burn Windows 7 to a flash drive. In our case it is better to do it with the help of the program “Asus EZ Installer”. In other cases you can use the program “Rufus” (easy to google, the first link to the official site). Here is a short description of how to set up Rufus correctly:
- Select the flash drive on which we will write Windows 7. It must be at least 4 GB in size.
- Be sure to select “MBR for computers with BIOS or UEFI”.
- Choose NTFS file system. This is not required, but this way everything is written and then installed as necessary.
- Click on the icon under “4” in the screenshot, select an image of Windows 7. Also check the checkboxes as in the screenshot.
- Make sure you have selected and configured everything correctly. Press “Start”.
Now, when you have installed the Windows, we need to perform some manipulations in BIOS (after the settings below the current Windows will not start):
- Press F2 (or DEL) to get into BIOS.
- In BIOS, switch to the BOOT tab (it can be named Boot Options) and look for the section with the similar name to “UEFI/BIOS Boot Mode” (or “Boot List Option” or simply “Boot Mode”), choose “Legacy” there.
- Then in the BOOT tab (or Security or System tab) find item with similar name “Secure Boot Control” and choose “Disabled”.
Above are the basic items, found in any BIOS, now we need to check the other options. Let me tell you right away that they may not exist and this is not a problem.
- In the BOOT tab look for “CSM Support” and select “Enabled.
- In the same place look for “Fast Boot”, select “Disabled”.
- Sometimes you may come across items with similar name “Type OS” or “Support OS”, where you can choose to support Windows 7 and other versions directly.
Note, that in some BIOSes tabs with the above options may be named “Boot Feature” or “Advansed. But if you can’t find an option in the tab I mentioned, don’t be afraid to just switch to other tabs and look for. Often laptops from different manufacturers have different BIOS structures.
How to install Windows from a USB stick
Today many modern laptops do not have a DVD-drive, so it is impossible to install an operating system from an optical drive. This is not a problem, because the installation can be done entirely from a USB key, including a normal USB.
We need the installation image of the operating system (file.iso) and a flash drive that is larger than the installation file.
For example, the size of the Windows 2 image.4 gigabytes, then you need a 4 gigabyte flash drive or more. If the image is more than 4 GB, but you need a flash drive for 8 GB or more.
Booting from USB flash drive or DVD through Asus BIOS
Insert USB flash drive and restart your computer. As soon as you see the splash screen with the motherboard logo, press Del to enter the BIOS of the motherboard. The splash screen looks something like this:
Next, go to the Boot menu:
We need to configure two items: Boot Device Priority and Hard Disk Drives.
In Boot Device Priority you must first select any hard drive on your computer to boot: P0-SPCC SSD170
In Hard Disk Drives, find our flash drive and make it bootable:
Install Netac OnlyDisk first in the boot order. That’s it, you can press F10 and confirm that you want to save your settings by pressing YES. The motherboard will reboot and start booting from a USB flash drive.

I can’t even boot Windows from drive, what should I do? I burned a disc with Windows 7 it freezes when the Windows logo appears and a red line appears, the Windows 10 disc does not even start
On newer laptops, particularly on the Vivobook, installing Windows 7 is blocked by default.
VivoBook A512DA has no Launch CSM option in the BIOS. How to install a bootable USB flash drive?
It is necessary to write the stick program rufus and when you turn on the key in the first row. I don’t know which one. Maybe Esc, maybe f2, maybe another. A menu should appear where you will be able to select the source of the download.
Asus VivoBook 14/15 when installing the 10 pure windup everything goes fine. At the stage of selecting a drive where to install the hard drive is not visible there is no choice where to install the hard drive.
