How to use Apple pay on iPhone XR

Design

The design of the iPhone XR is not much different from the iPhone X, but rather, even completely adopted it. Both sides of the smartphone are covered with glass, while the side edges are made of aluminum. This is where the main difference between the XR and X smartphone lies; in the latter, the frame is made of steel and is more resistant to various types of physical damage in the form of scratches and abrasions. If you take a comparison of these two iPhones, you will notice many of these points, which causes the XR to cost less than the X.

apple, iphone

But in no case should you think that aluminum will wear out quickly, and the appearance of the iPhone will lose its attractiveness, because the younger models of these smartphones had the same aluminum frame, and there were no complaints about the rapid wear of the edges.

As for the dimensions of the new iPhone XR, they are slightly larger than those of the iPhone X. All thanks to the almost frameless and elongated display.

The display of this model is large and covers almost the entire 6.1-inch front panel. Side frames, as well as their lower part, are practically absent, and there are no home buttons at all. There is a fairly large cutout at the top of the display, on which the speaker and sensors with the camera are located. In addition, instead of Touch ID, located in the home button, Face ID was added, the sensors of which are located at the top of the display and are responsible for the revolutionary face recognition technology.

The location of the function buttons and ports remains standard for Apple smartphones. The top edge of the smartphone is empty, while on the bottom you can find a Lightning port and symmetrical speaker grilles. On the left side there are volume control buttons and a silent mode switch. On the opposite side, there is a lock and power button with a tray for a SIM card.

The bottom line is the iPhone with an increased size compared to the iPhone X and a wide variety of colors, which is good news. In addition to the standard black and white, bright yellow, blue, coral and red colors appeared in the smartphone line.

Name

Controversy over the name of the new smartphone lasted for a long time, but even Apple was in no hurry to reveal this secret. Of all the three models of 2018, the 6.1-inch smartphone was not designated in any way. Subsequently, the name iPhone 9 stuck with this device, and a couple of weeks before the presentation, it was called the iPhone XC.

Apple, in turn, decided to surprise its users with a non-typical name with the prefix XR, which did not really fit into the overall picture of the standard iPhone names. And besides, she insisted that the name be read like “ten ar”, but the generally accepted name is always chosen by the society, behind which the last word.

IPhone XR storage

We are immediately seeing 3 versions of the smartphone with 64, 128 and 256 GB of memory on board. The arrival of the 128GB version should be good for market price flexibility for the end user.

Moisture protection

The case is completely sealed and protected from dust and water ingress to the IP67 standard. With dust, everything is clear, but with moisture, it’s a little different. According to the manufacturer, the smartphone can be kept under water at a depth of up to a meter for as much as 30 minutes, but I would not check it and just limit myself to protection from rain and humid air.

Specifications

At the time of the release of the iPhone XR, it received the most advanced processor of its kind. This small, high-performance module is made using a 7-nanometer process technology and is marked A12.

Surprisingly, the new processor increased the performance of the iPhone XR by 70% in some tests compared to the iPhone X. Performance has increased dramatically in a variety of scenarios, from launching applications to browsing.

Although this model also received only 3 GB of RAM, this is quite enough for it to work stably with many applications at once and work with the camera. True, here the XS and XS Max models bypass it somewhat in terms of RAM.

Autonomy and power

If we compare the performance and autonomy of different iPhones, it will be clear that the more powerful the device, the more battery it consumes. In our case, the iPhone XR outperforms the iPhone 8 Plus by a full hour and a half of battery life. And the battery capacity was 2942 mAh.

Fast charging is also included, which will provide a 0-50% battery charge in just 30 minutes. There is also support for wireless charging, but with normal power.

Display

Unfortunately, this model did not use an OLED display, as in the X, XS and XS Max models, but a liquid crystal display. This is due to a decrease in the cost of the device due to lower costs for the production of such screens.

Despite the cheaper performance of the built-in screen, it still supports Apple’s True Tone technology. So users have access to a convenient way to automatically adjust the screen glow temperature for maximum comfort of use in any light.

An interesting feature of the XR model is the ability to unlock with a touch. Many were convinced that this function was only possible with OLED displays, but Apple managed to implement everything here.

IPhone XS, XR, and X Gestures: Control your Apple smartphone without the Home button. 16 examples

For a decade, the iPhone’s control center has been the Home button. Depending on how many times you press and how long you hold down this button, it performs a variety of functions, from calling Siri and launching Apple Pay, to opening the app switcher and accessibility menu.

As you know, in the iPhone X, Apple got rid of the Home button in order to remove the bezel and free up more space for the display. Navigation with this button has been replaced by gesture control. Below we will show you how to control iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR without the usual Home button.

How to open Control Center on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and iPhone X

Swiping from bottom to top in iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and iPhone X does not open Control Center, as in old Apple smartphones, but minimizes the application, or opens multitasking mode. In addition, in new smartphones, the “Control Center” has moved upward, displacing the “Notification Center”, which is now called by swiping down from the top left “ear” or from the TrueDepth camera module in the center. The right “ear” is occupied by the “Control Center”.

Using Apple Pay on iPhone X

Touch the right “ear” at the top of the screen, where the battery indicator is located.

Swipe down.

As mentioned above, in Reachability mode, you can swipe with one hand, even from the upper right corner of the screen.

Press and hold the side button and one of the volume buttons at the same time (that is, squeeze the device at the sides).

Move the slider corresponding to the desired function to send a signal for help (SOS).

There is no Home button anymore, but you still need to get to the main home screen somehow (for example, from the lock screen, from other home screens, from widget screens, from applications, etc.). IPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and iPhone X use a special gesture instead of a button.

Place your finger on the gesture bar at the bottom of the display;

Swipe up in a quick short motion and release your finger immediately.

The gesture is much the same as for Control Center on other iPhone models. It is very simple and quickly becomes familiar.
