How to set up Airpods on iPhone
Siri can be used to perform a number of specific actions that will help when using the original Airpods:
- Playing music.
- Increase the volume.
- Skip to the next song.
- Pausing music.
For Siri to perform these steps, you just need to ask her about it. You can also ask her a variety of questions, such as “What is the charge level in my Airpods?”.
Setting up the automatic ear detection function
Airpods automatically recognize when they are in your ears. In this case, they start transmitting the audio stream from the device.
Another feature is that if you remove one of the headphones, the audio stream will pause, and if you remove two headphones, the music playback will be completely paused. It also happens if the headphones do not fit well in the ears and fall out.
Why enable automatic ear detection:
- If the automatic ear detection function is activated, but the Airpods are not currently being used, then the audio stream is played through the device’s speaker.
- If this function is in the disabled state, then all audio recordings will be played in the headphones, regardless of whether they are worn or not.
How to restart Airpods?
To reboot the headphones, you must:
- place them in a case;
- close the lid;
- wait about 15–20 seconds;
- lift the lid.
There is a setting button on the back panel of the case, it must be pressed and held until the status indicator starts flashing yellow. After these actions, the indicator should turn white, this means that the headphones have gone through the reboot process.

The next time a trigger event occurs that activates the toggle mechanism, a system alert will appear on the screen of the device with which your Airpods were originally paired, indicating that they were switching to the device that is broadcasting audio. Despite the fact that resynchronization occurs almost instantly, you can cancel this action by clicking on the blue button with a circular arrow on the notification. In this case, Airpods will remain connected to the original gadget and reconnection will not occur.
Airpods connect by themselves. How to disable
To cancel the reconnection, press the button with the circular arrow
If you don’t like the fact that your headphones are constantly jumping between devices, connecting to one or the other, you might be better off turning off the auto-switching function. Doing this is as easy as enabling:
- Connect Airpods to iPhone or iPad (or other device);
- Go to “Settings”. Bluetooth. the i button opposite your Airpods;
- Click the Connections tab. to this iPhone ”;
- Turn on “Next time I connect to this iPhone”.
From now on, your Airpods will not automatically connect to your devices that you are working with. This option should be chosen by those who regularly switch between different gadgets, but at the same time do not want the sound they broadcast to be output to headphones. As a rule, this is true at home and in cases where your devices are shared by different family members. In this case, when one is watching a video on a tablet, another is working on a Mac, and the third is trying to turn on a movie or series on Apple TV, the headphones can simply go crazy themselves and drive you off it, connecting to one device, then to another.

Setting up a microphone with headphones on a computer or laptop
On a PC or laptop, you can set up your headphone microphone in three ways.
Setting up on Android
How to set up a microphone with headphones? On smartphones and tablets running Android, the headset is automatically configured. If there are problems with it, then you can proceed to self-configuration:
- Open the engineering department: for MTK processors. ### or ### for Exynos. ###
- Find Hardware.
- Go Earphones and Mic.
- Self-adjust the sound volume, sensitivity of both the headset and the built-in microphone of the device.
With Windows Sound Mixer
Let’s see how to set up a microphone from headphones on a computer in another way. Follow the instructions:

If you want to connect your headphones to an Android device, then the second option is just for you.
What are equalizer bands? How many should there be?
The bands are usually characteristic of graphic equalizers (there are more “knobs” or other visual elements for parametric ones) and display a fixed frequency, the adjustment of which (more precisely, the range around) is performed. Accordingly, the more bands there are, the more accurate the adjustment can be made.
For example, many professional graphic equalizers (including analog ones) have 31 bands.
The 13-band EQ setting is not very different from the 10-band EQ. Just 3 more lanes. But who said that exactly they will be needed? Sometimes a large number of stripes, on the contrary, confuses. Until you deduce that “recipe” of the desired sound. But it turns out that in the end he regulated only 4-5 bands. Therefore, it cannot be said unequivocally that the equalizer should have 6, 10, 13, 31 bands and so on. It all depends on the specific genre or composition for which the sound is regulated.
As mentioned above, it makes the most sense to use an equalizer when listening to (rather than creating) music. on simple popular synthetic genres. And there, more often than not, you do not need a lot of lanes. 5-6 will be enough. And for someone, a pair is enough, if only they were on bass (raise) and HF (lower).
What is an equalizer ❔ Briefly and clearly
An equalizer is a device or program that allows you to adjust the volume of individual zones of a frequency range. To be precise, the amplitude of the signal is regulated, but this is the volume. That is, the equalizer allows you to emphasize or, conversely, muffle certain frequency ranges in the audible spectrum, changing the final frequency response (frequency response).
Physical equalizers (devices) are used in the audio recording process. At one stage or another of recording and mixing music, the “participation” of the equalizer is almost inevitable. Sometimes you need to emphasize or mask the features of the vocalist’s voice, give a certain color to the instrument, and so on.
Software equalizers are most often used while listening to music. Yes, studios also have them, but they are rarely the main ones. With such a program, you can correct the flaws in the sound of your headphones or speakers. But, of course, many people use them to get some special color of music that they like.
Do not forget that using the equalizer changes the sound in the direction of unnaturalness. And the more actively it “twists”, the more distortions appear in the sound: voices become unnatural, instruments become “synthetic”, the scene narrows or bends completely.
I personally don’t use equalizers. At least not now. Everyone started with the bass plugs and turning the bass level. It is better to buy high-quality headphones and source, and listen to music the way it was intended, than to add some kind of “gag”.
However, this is largely true for quality recordings and source files. That is, if the music was recorded in a good studio with the participation of professional musicians and sound engineers, then it is better not to touch the equalizer sliders (frequencies). But, if the music itself is initially synthetic, recorded at a semi-home studio (or so), then it can be corrected.
Equalizer is more logical to correct the “jambs” of the recording, headphones, source and so on. When these problems are clearly audible. But I do not recommend simply “piling on the bass” or “cutting off the high” without an audible reason.
This spoils not only the music itself, but also its perception in the long term: well-mixed and recorded compositions can start to sound “wrong”. And this is already a bad taste. Of course, the perception of music is a subjective matter and it is impossible to establish clear rules: to listen in this way is correct, otherwise it is heresy.
An example of setting up an equalizer in a Samsung Galaxy S8:
Go to the sound settings and select the equalizer
Manual configuration can be done here
Or use ready-made presets
2 handy knobs for quick setup
How to set up the equalizer correctly ️. universal instruction
Adjusting the sound using the equalizer is now possible on any device, be it a PC, laptop, phone, player, TV, and so on.
How to set up an equalizer. general instructions for all devices:
- Go to general settings sound settings equalizer settings (all options where to look for an equalizer).
- Turn on the equalizer. Usually it is off or all the sliders in the middle.
- In the parameters of the equalizer choose a ready-made preset for your genre of music (rock, pop, jazz, hip-hop, electronics). Setting the equalizer for certain headphones is done like this.
- We manually “tighten” the frequency regulators. If the finished peseta is not good enough for you.
- We save the created setting.
Usually the equalizer is built into a specific software player. Also, the audio equalizer can be a system one or as a separate program (application).
Digital EQ options (where to look, etc.)
- If the sound equalizer is built into the player, then you should look for it in the player’s settings. In 90% of cases, it is at hand, you don’t have to dig far. In this case, the sound is adjusted only within the framework of playing music from a specific player.
- The system equalizer allows you to customize the sound of the entire (unexpected ) system. That is, the adjustment will affect all sounds and music in that environment (Windows, iOS, Android, etc.) on a particular device. Will work “on top” of all players.
- A separate equalizer is akin to a system one, but most often it has more settings and options for working. It can adjust the sound as long as it is turned on, no matter what player you are using. Often it is possible not to “touch” the system sounds, run together with the player, and so on.
What are equalizers?
Equalizers are divided into 2 main types: graphic and parametric. This applies to both physical and software solutions. A digital equalizer (of any type) usually has more customization options, processing is carried out mathematically correct methods. Analog equalizers work differently: they bring quite a lot of changes to the music, but, as many believe, they can give a special “live” shade.
We will not dwell on analog physical equalizers in detail. They are mainly used in studios or in some audiophile systems. We will consider digital solutions.
Graphic digital equalizer
Graphic equalizer. the most common type, is a set of bands (frequencies) with the ability to adjust in and. a few dB. Setting up a graphic equalizer is quite simple: just select which frequencies you want to adjust and move the corresponding sliders.
The Parametric Equalizer is a tool for fine tuning. Here it is no longer just possible to increase or decrease the volume on certain parts of the range, but you can adjust some parameters in more detail. Adjusting the parametric equalizer comes down to choosing a specific frequency, adjusting the Q factor (the zone around this frequency that will be tuned) and, in fact, adjusting the volume of the selected range.
Parametric digital equalizer
How to set up an equalizer?
To set up the equalizer correctly, you need to use ready-made “genre presets” or adjust the equalizer ️ manually.
The headphone equalizer setting or headphone sound setting (in wireless Bluetooth headphones) is different from the “genre preset” equalizer setting. But first things first.
All modern players for phone, PC and TV have a built-in software equalizer. Such equalizers almost always have ready-made settings (presets), for example, for a certain genre of music: for rock, rap and other music. What’s the best way to adjust the EQ settings for the best sound? The best sound can be obtained using the general instructions for setting up the equalizer and how to use it, and if the sound still does not suit you, adjust the equalizer settings manually.
for the best wireless earbuds in 2021:
Equalizer setting. detailed instructions:
- If this is a system equalizer, then it will be somewhere “in the area” of the sound settings. In players in a similar menu item or in a separate block “Equalizer”.
- That is, we put a “tick” or press “On”. This applies to system and player built-in options, which are disabled by default.
- The easiest way is to iterate over the available presets. Usually they are made for different genres of music. However, the “Rock” setting does not always seem suitable for you for rock music, so it is better to go over everything. If the sound of some preset suits you, then you can stop there. This will be a good option in many cases.
- If you generally like the selected preset, but lack some frequencies or too many other frequencies, supplement it with your own improvements. I repeat that for less distortion of music, it is better to try only to turn down, and not turn up the volume at different frequencies. It is worth proceeding from this when choosing an initial preset and “bringing it to mind”.
- You can make your own versions of different settings for different genres and even compositions. The main thing is not to forget to save, so that later you do not try to repeat the inspiration.

How to properly connect and set up Airpods 2?
recently, Apple debuted the new Airpods 2 and introduced several important updates over their previous and popular counterparts. If you become the proud owner of such a novelty, then it is quite logical that you intend to use it to the fullest. I think, not just listening to music, but also using the capabilities of the Siri assistant, or at least receiving incoming calls. And for this you need to know how to properly connect them to your device, which in this article I will try to tell you in more detail.
Setting up Airpods 2
All variations of setting up the new Airpods 2 can be done in the “Settings” item. For iOS you need to go to “Options”. “Bluetooth”, and select your headphones from the list. By clicking on the “i” icon, you will open their settings window, where you can adjust the behavior of the headphones to your tapes, for example, play / pause a track or switch to the previous / next track. Separately, the call to Siri for the phrase “Hey Siri” can now be configured in the corresponding item “Siri and Search” in the “Options” menu. On MacOS, headphone setup is the same. via Bluetooth settings. There it is enough to select from the list of connected devices and click on the “Options”.
Setting up Airpods on iPhone
Airpods 1st and 2nd generation and Airpods Pro have touch controls and a number of additional features. Full use of both the first and the second is possible only with the correct setting of the headphones, and today we will tell you how to do this on the iPhone.
Connecting Headphones to iPhone
If you just bought Airpods and have not yet connected them to the iPhone or do not know how to do this, with a separate article on our website, which describes in detail how to perform this procedure.
In addition to the main ones, Airpods Pro has non-obvious, hidden settings, with which you can more accurately determine the speed of pressing on the touch controls and the delay between them, as well as activate the noise canceling function for one earphone. To access these features, do the following:
- Open “Settings” and go to the section “Accessibility”.
- In the “Physical and Motor” block, find “Airpods”.
As you can see, the Airpods Pro settings are somewhat wider than those of the first and second generation models, which is dictated by their functionality. Playback control is carried out by single (“Start / Pause”), double (“Next track”) and triple (“Previous track”) touching the sensor. Any other actions can be performed by contacting Siri.
Fitting to the ears
Airpods Pro, unlike their predecessors, are endowed with not only external microphones, but also internal ones. After the headphones are placed in the ear, they take special measurements to determine the tightness of the ear cushions. The latter come in three pairs. sizes S, M, L. This setting is performed when the accessory is connected to the iPhone for the first time, but if necessary, it can be repeated. for this, just use the corresponding menu item.
Then tap “Continue”, run the check and wait until it is completed. If the attachments you are using fit well to your ears, you will receive a notification and you can then close the window (the “Finish” button in the upper right corner). Otherwise, you will have to select a different size ear pads and repeat the test.
Noise canceling control
The noise reduction function implemented in Airpods Pro can operate in one of two modes. “Active” or “Transparent”. If you do not need to use both the first and the second, you can turn it off. These options are available in the headphone settings and can be controlled by pressing and holding the sensor on the headphone body. By default, switching occurs between active and transparent modes, but if required, you can add a shutdown to them or replace one with another.
- Go to Airpods Pro Settings.
- In the “Press and hold Airpods” section, first select the earphone you want to change the settings for (left or right), and then make sure that “Noise control” is activated for it.
Note: If Noise Control is selected for both the left and right earbuds, the changes to the settings, that is, the modes available for switching, will be applied to both of them. You can find out which options for noise cancellation are used in the main section of the accessory settings (see the paragraph current instructions).
Like Airpods of the second generation, the Pro series device supports calling the voice assistant with the command “Hey Siri”, but instead, you can use one of the headphones, assigning this action to press and hold the touch sensor.
Airpods Pro headphones differ from their predecessors not only in form factor, design and noise cancellation, but also in slightly redesigned controls. The latter is not directly related to setting, and therefore we will move on to the main topic and first briefly consider the parameters common to all models.
As with the 1st and 2nd generation Airpods, you can change the name for the Pro model, turn on Auto-Ear Detection, and determine whether the microphone will work automatically or in just one of the earbuds. Also, the accessory can be “Disconnected” from the iPhone and “Forget” if the need arises. We discussed these options in more detail in the previous part of the article.
Airpods 1st and 2nd generation
In the context of our topic today, the key difference between the 1st and 2nd generation Apple headphones is the way Siri can be called. On the first, the voice assistant can be activated only by double-tapping one of the headphones, on the second, the command “Hello Siri” is used for this purpose. The rest of the controls and features can be customized by yourself.
How to customize the settings on your AirPods or AirPods Pro. Apple Support
Important! For further instructions, Airpods must either be connected to the iPhone and in your ears (at least one earbud), or they can be in the charging case, but you must definitely open it.
- Launch the standard iOS application “Settings” and go to the “Bluetooth” section.
The first thing you can change is the name of the accessory. If there is such a need, select the appropriate item, set your name and return to the main list of settings.
The latter option (in fact, the first in the list) allows the system to automatically detect which of the accessories is currently in use and use the built-in microphone. We recommend that you leave it active. The other two options are self-explanatory.
If necessary, Airpods can be “Disconnected” from iPhone, allowing them to be connected to another Apple or other compatible device.
If you have problems with the connection or if you want to stop using the accessory altogether, you should use the “Forget this device” item.
Important! If Airpods are used not only with the iPhone, but also with other Apple devices, one Apple ID is used on them and the iCloud is logged in, when you select the “Forget this device” option, the headphones will be untied from each of them.
These were all available first and second generation Airpods settings.
In addition to the system parameters that are available for Airpods, and branded applications for some models of third-party brands, you can customize the headphones, or rather, the audio playback quality, in some players. Most streaming services have a similar opportunity, and below, as an example, we will consider the most popular of them.
Note: The settings below apply equally to wireless headphones and wired headphones.
The popular streaming service Spotify, which has recently started operating in Russia and a number of CIS countries, also allows you to customize the sound quality. This is done in the mobile application.
From the Home tab go to Spotify’s Settings.
Open the “Playback” section.
Click on “Equalizer”.
Note! Above, you can define your preferred volume level. loud, normal and quiet. We recommend opting for the second option.
Select a preset preset from the list of available ones
or activate the toggle switch opposite the “Equalizer” item
and adjust it for yourself by moving the frequency controls on the scale.
Step back to select your preferred streaming audio quality.
The following options are available:
- Auto (recommended);
- Very high.
Below is the number of kbps that each of these values corresponds to. Even below, in the same way, you can determine the quality of music downloaded to the iPhone.
As in the case discussed above, the changes made apply not only to the headphones, but also to the speakers of the mobile device.
Headphones of other brands
Well-known manufacturers of acoustic equipment often release proprietary software for mobile devices, which allows you to customize their work for yourself, change control, adjust quality, install updates and perform some other actions. Such opportunities are not available for all brands, and certainly not for all the headphones they produce, but the market leaders and flagship or close to such models have them. The main thing is to find and download suitable software from the App Store and use it. Below are links to proprietary software solutions from Sony, JBL, harman / kardon, Bose, Sennheiser, Bowers Wilkins.
We will not consider how to use this software to customize headphones, for two reasons. firstly, different brands offer completely different possibilities for their products, and secondly, the list of those is significantly different for different models. In general, the aLGorithm looks like this: install and run the application from the manufacturer of your headphones, check the connection and compatibility, and then study and use the available functionality to improve the operation of the accessory and the general interaction with it.
Apple Music lets you adjust the volume (normalize effect) and choose from a variety of preset equalizer presets. This is done in the iOS settings, and not in the service application.
Open system “Settings” and scroll down.
In the list of preinstalled applications, find “Music” and tap on this name.
Scroll down the list of available options.
If desired, move the switch opposite the “Volume Correction” item to the active position. this will normalize the sound so that all tracks are at the same level.
Next, open the “Equalizer” section
and choose the appropriate option,
by checking the box next to it.
There are no other sound settings in Apple Music, with the changes made to both the iPhone speakers, headphones, and any other acoustic devices that will connect.
Setting up headphones on iPhone
Important! In the article below, we will focus on wireless headphones, since, firstly, it is for them, and not for everyone, that the customization option is available, and secondly, all current iPhone models lack a 3.5 mm mini-jack connector. How you can set up a wired accessory will be discussed in the last part.
Airpods of the 1st and 2nd generation, as well as Airpods Pro are endowed with special pressure sensors that allow you to control audio playback. to pause and switch tracks, and other actions (for example, changing the volume) can be performed using Siri. You can learn how to properly configure the accessory to solve the most frequent tasks that you may encounter while listening to audio, as well as how to control them, from the separate instructions on our website.
The only thing that can be adjusted in the YouTube Music for iPhone app is the sound quality.
Launch the application and, being in any of its tabs, click on your profile picture located in the upper right corner.
Go to “Settings”.
Open the “Playback” section.
Select your preferred quality from the list of available ones:
These settings will be applied to all audio output devices connected to the iPhone, as well as to its speakers.
Headphones of other brands
The aLGorithm for connecting wireless headphones from third-party manufacturers is somewhat different from that in the case discussed above, but it cannot be called complicated. Yes, this is done not automatically, but manually, but it takes no more than one minute and does not require much effort. Read more about this in the material presented at the link below.
