How to Set Up a Camera on a Honor 10i

A lot of people when choosing a new smartphone pay special attention to the device’s camera. Honor is aware of this, so it is diligent in releasing phones with a focus on high quality when shooting. Honor 10 was no exception, captivating users with the wide functionality and capabilities of the camera.

Camera specifications

Honor 10 is equipped with a dual main camera with 16 megapixel (color) and 24 megapixel (monochrome) modules with dual LED flash, equal f / 1.8 apertures. 3 in 1 focusing system: phase, depth and contrast focus.

The front camera has a 24 megapixel module, as well as an f / 2 aperture lens. There is no LED flash.

Honor 10 has an NPU (dedicated neural module), which is successfully responsible for creating photos using artificial intelligence (AI). The presence of AI is the main feature of the camera in Honor 10.

The main disadvantage is the lack of optical stabilization, which is extremely negative for low light conditions. When shooting in the daytime with good lighting, this fact does not manifest itself negatively, but at dusk the photo will be blurry and noticeable noise. Optical stabilization serves to reduce blurring by shooting with your hands (it’s almost impossible to fix the smartphone so that it does not move), as well as to adjust the desired shutter speed in difficult conditions.

At dusk you can find a way out: lower the exposure by touching a bright area and lowering the brightness with the slider. Thanks to dancing with tambourines and experiments, you can get the most out even without optical image stabilization.

Artificial Intelligence

The artificial intelligence available in Honor 10 recognizes about 500 scenes in 22 categories, while in all cases it uses the optimal settings for each scene, changing the photo in its own way.

It’s easy to turn on photography based on artificial intelligence by finding a special key in the main menu of the camera on top (Al).

How to Set Up a Camera on a Honor 10i

Artificial intelligence is able to help the user, solve specific problems, optimizing the color reproduction of the image and applying algorithms, as well as configure the camera automatically, without user intervention. Simply put, AI carries out all the work for the owner, focusing on the highest quality of the image.

Artificial intelligence always tries to take photos with the most pronounced effect, adding saturation, warm colors and contrast. This fact turns the whole world of mobile photography, because until now, the developers believed that the best photos are those that look as natural as possible. For this reason, many users find it difficult to get used to the AI function, considering that artificial intelligence does not improve the image at all.

Manufacturers took care of the problem in advance, giving each smartphone owner a choice: shoot on the basis of AI or turn it off. In addition, when using artificial intelligence, both images are saved in the gallery: on the basis of AI and the source.

Examples of images where on the left is shot using artificial intelligence, and on the right is the original photo.

As you can see, in most photos, AI simply brightens the image, changing colors. In this case, the grass becomes unnaturally green, which negatively affects the picture as a whole.

But it is worth noting that when portrait shooting, the AI behaves much better: removes bumps in the skin without blurring the photo, adds a bokeh effect, makes your face healthier and intelligently cuts the image.

The function with artificial intelligence is distinguished by its convenience due to the automatic recognition of plots: food, animals, people, landscape, city, children, etc. AI also recognizes individual objects: cats, clouds, sky, rainbow, puddle, etc.

Main Camera Features

When you point the camera at an object, the smartphone uses the usual phase auto focus. The second monochrome module (24 megapixels) provides a double zoom, when using which the image quality does not deteriorate.

Honor 10 zoom is hybrid, so it works a little worse than triple optical zoom, but better than digital. In any case, the photos are good.

In the settings of the Honor 10 camera, there are many functions and shooting methods, one of which is a professional (manual) mode.

In the “Pro” mode, the user can independently set the desired exposure, shutter speed, ISO parameter, then point the camera at the subject. By manually adjusting the settings, you can achieve optimal picture quality. But this mode can only be used when shooting the main camera.

In a smartphone, you can use the HDR mode (dynamic range expansion), for example, when lighting does not allow you to take a decent photo. Simply put, the phone will correctly detect and process colors when shooting, ranging from the lightest shades to deep darks.

Snapshot without HDR and with HDR:

HDR mode will help the user in different situations. For example, when shooting on a bright sunny day, when in automatic mode, the smartphone adds a lot of contrast, or in the case when the foreground is a dark object (insufficiently lit) and the background looks much brighter. HDR mode will have a positive effect on pictures and when shooting at night. No, not in night mode, when you can’t do without a tripod, but using only HDR and a short shutter speed. Individual frames may be smeared, but the image itself will be clear and high-quality.

In the settings of the main camera of Honor 10, you can adjust the resolution by setting 24 megapixels, but in this case the possibility of approximation (double zoom) will disappear.

Thus, the main resolution still remains 16 megapixels. An additional module (24 megapixels) is monochrome, which allows you to process shades more efficiently, expanding the dynamic range.

You can also customize the aperture mode with a range from F0.95 to F16. Editing the edges of the subject works pretty well, and when shooting in aperture mode, you can apply effects and filters to the background.

Night shooting is not as good as other modes, but it has the right to exist. It shows itself perfectly if it is possible to fix the device, for example, using a tripod. Otherwise, the photo will inevitably be smeared, even if the user does not move at all. An alternative is HDR mode.

In addition, the Honor 10 has many other shooting options. For example, the artist’s mode, where you can filter the picture beyond recognition (resembles the Prisma application), 3D-panorama, ordinary panorama, etc.

In general, the main camera shoots excellently in natural light, worse at night.

The front camera in Honor 10 has a resolution of 24 megapixels and an aperture of f / 2.0. There is no artificial intelligence, but there are a variety of other functions.

In portrait mode, added a bokeh effect (blur the background), which does an excellent job.

In portrait mode, there are also decoration effects that remove irregularities and make your complexion look healthier. The main thing is not to overdo it. It is worth noting that the decoration cannot be turned off in this mode, it will always be turned on. If you fundamentally need to disable beautification, then you can switch to the “Photo” mode.

In portrait mode, there is also a choice of lighting (flash butterfly, split flash, etc.). The production lighting looks very interesting in the photo:

There is no LED flash, but there is still a backlight (flashing screen in light color). over, if you compare the backlight with earlier models, then in Honor it works flawlessly when shooting, indecently brightly illuminating everything around.

Photos are not obtained blurred or overexposed. The detail is excellent, especially in good daylight.

The settings have their own functions:

An ideal selfie includes a jewelry mode, a timer allows you to choose the time after which the shooting will take place (2, 5 or 10 seconds). The audio control function is aimed at controlling the voice (for example, the word “Cheese”). When shooting by pressing it is not necessary to press the dedicated button to take a picture, you can simply click on the screen itself.

The smile function captures a smile, then automatically photographs, and if you turn on “Gesture”, then just wave in the camera to save the image.

In the settings of the front camera, there is also a panorama and the “Artist” mode, which adds various filters to the photo. For instance:

Although, some of the filters can be found in the “Augmented Reality” mode:

In Honor 10, developers have added good cameras with high resolution, high-quality hybrid zoom, artificial intelligence and great functionality. The smartphone shoots perfectly in automatic mode, the user can get the device, take a picture even with hot keys, and then remove the phone back. This is the main merit of artificial intelligence, which independently selects the desired scene, adjusting the quality of the picture.

For the average user who is not a professional photographer, Honor 10 is a great option. Fast focusing, accurate white balance, correct and saturated colors. This smartphone will cope with any task, except for night shooting. If the user wants a clear image, then here you can not do without a tripod.Share link:
