Restoring and improving the “Kremlin Star”: a Soviet Christmas tree decoration

“Thanks” to covid, I took over the workshop of an elderly repairman, and if most of this very content was sent straight to the scrap (for example, grandfather had just a huge collection of empty plastic soda bottles), then a small part, approximately 200 kilograms. turned out to be very interesting. this is a selection of issues of “Modelist-Constructor” for 1961-1991, many issues of the magazine “Young Technician” and other interesting things. Among them are several pieces of Soviet Christmas tree garlands of varying degrees of depravity and this “Kremlin Star”. In a fit of nostalgia, I decided to slowly restore everything, and started with the “star”, which I will tell you about later. The details used are simple, nothing special is needed, so any person who knows how to take on the soldering iron from the right side will be able to repeat the entire “modding” process in one evening.

“Zvezda” (Produced by “Gazotron”, Rovno, Ukrainian SSR, Price 3 Rub. 00.k) was originally defective. one “beam” did not burn, but two “beams” were burning. As it turned out during a visual inspection, one of the indicator lamps (and a very rare and expensive type was used here. IN-3B-1) has a break, and all the gas has long since evaporated. Exactly such a lamp on eBay costs 20 a piece, it was not possible to get it on the spot, and the remaining ones glowed very so-so, for this reason, I decided to completely change the filling, and use the so-called “filament” warm-white LED assemblies as light sources (Why not red? But these were just in stock, but there was simply no time to order something) for 3 volts.

The circuitry of the upgraded lamp is very simple. It consists of a PIC16F886 microcontroller that controls filament assemblies (two in series in each star beam) through a ULN2003 transistor matrix. Also in the circuit, a ready-made step-up module on the XL6009 was used, since the 5 volt drop on the ULN2003 is not enough for high-quality “ignition” of two filaments connected in series. Yes, and I wanted to get a general brightness adjustment. in order to adjust the glow of the “star” to the rest of the Christmas tree illumination, if necessary.

(A 10K resistor and a button were used when debugging the firmware and were not included in the final version of the circuit)

The whole process can be conditionally divided into 4 stages:

  • Making an insert in a star to hold the filaments.
  • Manufacture of the control module.
  • Writing software for MK.
  • Restoration and preparation of the star case for the installation of a new filling.

I decided to start the process by making an insert for installing filaments. I took measurements, drew in Korel and cut it out on a laser cutter. The first tests showed that the light from one beam of the star “floods” the rest, as a result of which, even one lit segment illuminates the entire star. To prevent this undesirable effect, spacers were made of black Plexiglas, which prevent the penetration of light from one filament into the other rays of the star. It was for this reason that the original ideas had to be abandoned. to place 5 ordinary LEDs in each beam, and light them separately, from the center to the edges and back. In this case, 25 spacers would have to be made, and removing the geometry from an object of such a complex shape is not so easy. the desired result with two types of spacers (for filaments) was obtained only after the 5th attempt, and in the case of conventional LEDs, one would have to do at least 5 spacers.

(In the photo above you can see the moment of selecting the location of the filaments and the first version of the holder)

The final version of the insert is cut out, the spacers are glued in, the filaments are fixed (I used Kafuter K-705 sealant for this purpose.). I soldered a flexible black silicone cable for 6 conductors, and in principle, this part is ready.

In the second stage, I decided to restore the body of the star itself. It was rather badly scratched, and some of the tips were broken off on all the rays, except for one. The scratches are not particularly visually noticeable, but the missing tips did not look very aesthetically pleasing, therefore, it was decided to build up the missing parts using a transparent epoxy resin, with the addition of a ruby red pigment. To build up, one of the surviving rays was smeared on the outside with ordinary white silicone, and when it hardened, the resulting “stocking” was carefully removed, filled with epoxy, and mounted on a star with a broken tip. After the epoxy resin dried, the “stocking” was removed, and what happened was brought into proper form with sandpaper and a cutter. It was not possible to return the original appearance, and this was not planned. it’s vintage, the scratches here are like cognac’s years, only a plus.

I had to “treat” the leg-mount a little. Apparently, it cracked from old age or external influences and no longer held the star. Since the leg is polyethylene, gluing it together is not an option, only welding, but whether I can get a smooth and beautiful welding is a big question. For this reason, I decided to go the simple way. I took a transparent heat shrink for a 18650 battery and crimped the cracked part with it. Turned out pretty neat and solid.

All control electronics are placed in a small box, and consists of

All installation is done on the circuit board. due to the simplicity of the circuit, I did not make the printed circuit board separately. I used a penny Chinese PSU for 5V 0.5A as a power supply. The entire “disco” at maximum brightness consumes 0.15A, so there was more than enough power. Those who wish to repeat can use almost any phone charger. As a case, I used a plastic box of a suitable size.

The software for the MK was written partly in assembler (Microchip MPLAB) and partly in Pic Basic Pro (Microcode Studio). The part that generates an 8-bit PWM signal for all 5 channels is written in assembler, and the part that changes the duty cycle of each channel to obtain the desired effects is written in BASIC. In reality, the assembler code supports up to 8 independent channels, and I thought to use 3 unused ones for the Christmas tree garland itself, but decided to postpone this part for the next new year.

In total, 4 different effects are currently implemented in the firmware (“written” in collaboration with my 8 year old daughter). Of course, it’s better to get acquainted with them on the video, but I’ll also give a text description. just in case. Without a doubt, there could have been more effects, but everything was done quickly. For the next NG, maybe I’ll add something new.

Hiding apps on Xiaomi

Many useful features are available to owners of the latest Chinese Xiaomi phones of the Redmi and Mi line. One of these is hiding programs, or rather their icons, from the desktop. However, not all users know how to hide an app on Xiaomi. This is an easy process to follow, but a certain algorithm of actions should be followed.

Hiding system apps

Before proceeding with the step-by-step instructions for Android (a1, a2, a3), you should take into account that hidden services cannot be used. Icons will need to be made visible again. To hide them, you must:

  • Open the settings section on your smartphone;
  • Go to the section All applications;
  • Click on the three dots located on the top right;
  • Then Hide System.

To make hidden programs visible again, you must follow the same algorithm, but select Show system programs from the menu.

Manual for MIUI

In devices running on the MIUI 10 operating system, the user can view encrypted utilities and services after authorization. In addition, there is another useful option. hiding correspondence and other personal information from prying eyes. Walkthrough:

  • Launch Mi Explorer, find the required file;
  • Pull it down. A circle will appear on top. When it is completely drawn, it means that the file has disappeared;
  • Or long tap on the file and select Hide.

Next, the system will prompt the user to select a method to unlock it. You can use a PIN or a pattern. If the device is synchronized with the cloud, then you will need to enter an access key.

When you no longer want to hide a file, you can make it visible again. This is done in the following way:

After the actions taken, the service shortcuts will again become available and open.

Generic Methods

There are several universal methods for both systems.

Additional user and second space

Another option is to create a second user on the Android OS (a1, a2, a3) or use a second space for the Miui system (Redmi and Mi). Applications are installed on the second account, so they are not visible from under the first user. Similarly for the second space.

For Android, go to Settings System Multiple Users. If this item is not in the settings, lower the notification curtain and click on the little man in the circle and select add user.

For MIUI Create a second space. It can be found in the settings.

Additional software

One of the most popular apps for hiding program shortcuts is Hide it Pro. It is free and helps to hide or password-protect necessary files and programs.

How to put a password on the Xiaomi and Redmi app in MIUI 11

The MUIU shell has the ability to enable application blocking using built-in tools, which in turn eliminates the need to install third-party software.

  • restrict access to payment systems (additional protection), will protect your savings, for example, if you lose your device;
  • prohibit free access to social networks, to preserve the privacy of correspondence;
  • block free access to photos and videos on your smartphone;
  • restrict access to the file system;
  • prohibit the free installation of applications, which will bypass already set restrictions;
  • other cases when a smartphone is used by several people from time to time, and you want to hide some of the information from the rest.

To activate this function, you need to go to “Settings”. “Protection of applications”, set the required password or pattern.

After that, a list of applications will be displayed, where you can mark those that need to be protected.

Now, when you start the application (if protection has been applied to it), you will need to enter the password that was selected when setting up the lock, otherwise the program simply will not start.

If you no longer need a password for an application, you can disable it in the same “Application protection” section by unchecking it.

Thus, in addition to the password to unlock the device, you can add additional protection to certain programs. You can even do this for all applications, if there is a need for this. It is worth remembering that when you start the blocked software, you need to enter a password. Sooner or later, you will definitely get tired of it, so you should not put a password on everything.

The fingerprint scanner allows you to significantly simplify and speed up the unlocking process, so if your smartphone has one, it is better to use it.

Here are a few examples of the correct blocking of a particular content. If you want to restrict access to viewing photos on your smartphone, then locking the Gallery app is not enough.

The Camera app also allows you to view the pictures you have taken without opening the Gallery, so to completely protect photos from strangers, you need to block the Camera as well.

Many also install third-party viewers, such as QuickPic, etc., in which case you should not forget to block them.

If there is a need to restrict access to the file system, then you need to block the “Explorer” application, as well as “Total Commander”, “Root Explorer” and the like, if any. This will exclude the possibility of installing an application using an APK file, for example, the same QuickPic and accessing photos on the device.

Since we touched on installing applications, then, of course, you need to set a password for “PlayMarket”.

We have described the main scenarios for the operation of this function. What you end up blocking is up to you. Now you know how to do it, so don’t give a single chance to attackers.

Instructions on how to hide apps on Xiaomi

There are always many programs on the desktop that are not needed in daily use (for example, pre-installed services). They can be hidden from the main screen. Therefore, today we will learn how to hide applications on Xiaomi using the system function and third-party utilities, and how to return access to the removed application icon.

Hidden apps on Android are not visible on the home screen, as if they were not installed at all. You can get to such programs using a special gesture and entering a password.

How to Hide Apps on Xiaomi and Redmi Phone in MIUI 11

What are hidden apps

The reasons for hiding applications from the desktop are as follows:

  • Protection from prying eyes. For example, you do not want this or that person to know about the use of a particular application.
  • Confidentiality of payment services. When a mobile device is lost or stolen, attackers can easily get to electronic wallets and online banking accounts.
  • order on the screen. There are useless or technical utilities that are used very rarely. Nevertheless, they take up space and are constantly striking. Just hide the shortcuts of unnecessary applications.

If you want to activate this option for security, but you use the program regularly, it’s better to just set a password. This will get you to the app faster. At the same time, it will be well protected.

How to hide apps on Xiaomi and Redmi phone

The procedure is carried out in the system settings. Hiding applications does not require additional programs. But there are also options with third-party tools. We’ll talk about them in the next paragraph.

open the “Applications” section and go to the “Application Protection” tab.

the first time you run the option, you must enter the security code. You can choose from a graphic key, a digital four-digit combination or a full password from different characters. Repeat the security feature two times and click Next. In the next window, link your Mi account to reset your password, or refuse.

The system will ask you to enter the password once and skip further if the function has already been activated before.

You will be prompted to set up face unlock. It’s really fast and convenient, but Face ID is easily hacked. anyone with a similar appearance will get access to your smartphone. Accept or reject the system recommendation.

when the organizational moments are completed, click on the top item “Hide applications”. Below is a list of applications whose icons can be removed from the workspace.

How to find hidden apps

We return to the main screen and make a certain gesture on the display: spread our fingers to the side, as if we want to enlarge the image. You are prompted to enter a password. After the correct introduction, a folder with shortcuts to hidden applications is displayed. Click on the desired icon and the program will open.

How to get everything back

Visit “Settings” on Xiaomi again to unhide apps. Just uncheck the checkboxes. If you want to turn off the protection function completely, click on the gear in the upper right corner and deactivate the slider opposite the first item of the same name. Confirm selection.

The instructions were tested on Redmi 7A and Mi 9 SE running MIUI 11 Global Stable. Everything works flawlessly.

Additional features

There are two more interesting settings that will help make hiding applications more comfortable for a particular user. Namely, the blocking mode and turning off notifications.

You can choose when the application will disappear: immediately after the screen is locked, when the program is locked or exited, when it is blocked, or a minute after exiting. The second feature is disabling notifications from hidden programs so that no one suspects their presence on the device.

Other ways in MIUI

The system tool quickly and easily removes applications from the screen, but it is rather banal and has little functionality. You will need third-party utilities to empower and hide, for example, files from Android Explorer.

Second space

An interesting option for hiding applications. Works according to the following principle:

  • We create a second space, which is a separate desktop;
  • We upload the necessary programs, photos, videos, contacts, files there;
  • Set a password and return to the main screen.

Thus, specific materials can be kept secret. All confidential information is in one place, which is very convenient.

For example, consider the popular Nova Launcher. It offers to hide program icons, but this feature is only available in the paid version. After installing the standard application and going to its settings, we see the inscription “Prime” next to hiding shortcuts.

Nova Launcher Prime costs about 4. For this price, the user gets the opportunity to fine-tune the desktop to his preferences.

Full optimization of MIUI 11 and the phone began to live a new life!

Good day, friends. If you are reading this article and you have a Xiaomi smartphone, then you are incredibly lucky. Today’s article will present a complete optimization of the MIUI 11 firmware, which Xiaomi is actively distributing to its gadgets.

What is the aim of today’s system optimization? First of all, energy efficiency will improve and the battery will last longer, the smartphone will work faster, and the amount of free memory will also increase.

Another optimization will affect the removal of unnecessary native programs, speeding up the Internet with reduced traffic consumption, and disabling ads. That is, only useful and necessary information for all owners of Xiaomi and Redmi devices. let’s go!

Xiaomi Smartphone Optimization Preface

Most importantly, today’s article will collect all the important information. You no longer have to look for information on how to improve system performance or how to disable ads. All in one place in an understandable language, with an accessible explanation of the implementation of each of the steps taken.

Disabling the left menu (widget) on the MIUI 11 desktop

The menu, which is located on the desktop in the very left edge, is not needed by many at all. This menu is cluttered with all sorts of widgets, news and other rubbish, which is useless in 90% of cases. If you use this, then feel free to move on to another paragraph, and if not, then read carefully.

How to disable the left menu on the desktop:

  • We pinch a finger on an empty spot on the desktop until its Settings come out (or make a two-finger swipe inward so it’s easier);
  • Click on the Desktop Settings icon, then click on ;
  • We remove the slider from the Widget Ribbon (I have nothing on the desktop on the left).

To do this, first go to Settings \u003d drive Region into the search bar \u003d then look for the Singapore region. This region allows the smartphone to produce maximum sound in headphones. Only after changing the region, do not forget to adjust the date and time, and then reboot!

How to set up a new control center

After receiving the update on a Xiaomi device, device users noticed that the notification center remained unchanged.

To change the style, go to the main phone settings.

Find the Notifications and Control Center section in the list.

This section has a number of settings directly for the notification center itself:

To get started, choose the style of the Control Center, by simply switching from the old version to the new one.

Setting up a new notification curtain in Miui 12

In the new version of miui, the developers conditionally divided the screen into two parts. Swiping down on each of them opens the desired area of the alert center:

Pop-up alerts can be configured directly for each resource from which these notifications come. precisely, turn them off if they are annoying or spam excessively.

Optimization of the control center is carried out by changing the set of various functions directly in the curtain and starts in the upper right corner. global adjustments are available through the gear icon.

The set of function switches is changed by simply dragging the necessary elements from the field with green pluses to the field with red minuses or vice versa.

Then confirm with the Done button.

How to make a notification curtain on Xiaomi from Miui 12

For budget Xiaomi smartphones or pure Android devices, there is every chance to make exactly the same notification curtain as on devices with the Miyuay 12 shell.

Мотор для штор Xiaomi Aqara Smart Curtain Controller для умного дома (Apple HomeKit iOS и Android)

For this, Google Play has the Mi Control Center application.

This app has a lot of settings.

For full-fledged work, give the application all permissions and proceed to the adjustments of the functionality and interface.

The main switch must be on, which means Mi Control Center is running.

Next, the following settings are available, but some of them will only work in the Pro version of the application:

and other interesting features that you can customize for yourself.

Using the Mi Control Center settings, you can easily adjust the transparency and blurring of the background of the curtain.

After playing around with the background type, we came to certain optimal settings.

We chose Image Blur, and Opacity and its value were twisted to the limit.

It suits our taste, you can adjust the color scheme to your liking.

How to change the gray color of the curtain Miui 12

One of the latest know-how from Xiaomi, and in particular from miui developers on Android, is a gray, opaque curtain.

When the control center is activated, respectively, when the section with notifications is opened, many are indignant why this happened.

This was specifically introduced at the budget level of Xiaomi smartphones, as well as on the example of Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8T. Models older than 8 PRO are fine with that.

This was introduced in order to reduce the consumption, or the effect of just this blur, on the hardware of the apparatus.

Many are also unhappy with this, they say in the Mi community that it was normal, everything worked and many people liked that very blur because it really looked cool.

But now an alternative has come as a gray curtain and now it really opens instantly without loading the necessary resources that were before. Accordingly, the opening time of the control center itself was reduced.

There is only one solution here, rolling back the firmware to the previous miui 12. At the beginning of 2021, this worked. Changing the default settings will not help in solving the problem. Shown in more detail in the video.

See also  How to take screenshot Xiaomi redmi note 7

Not everyone will like the rollback due to the gray curtain. In this case, there is another way, this is the installation of the Mi Control Center application, but it is the PRO version.

This option will help partially solve the problem, but the control center may turn out to be crooked due to some shortcomings. Although this does not happen with all smartphone models.

How to Enable the New MIUI 12 Notification Curtain and Customize

Working with the Miui 12 shell always starts with the notification shade. It contains not only the main functions and settings of the phone, but also all notifications received on the device.

In previous versions, the notification curtain with notifications and adjustments in one place, accessed by a swipe from top to bottom. The updated shell of Miui 12 is now different.

How to bring back the old notification shade

For those smartphone users who decide to return the old curtain style, the algorithm of actions is as follows.

  • Go to Settings
  • Find the Screen section
  • Next Control Center and notification shade
  • Disable Use the new control center

In newer miui 12 skins, this path is much shorter. The control center is placed as a separate section in the main settings of the smartphone.

Press and hold on the app, then release. If the application has shortcuts, you will see a list of them. Touch and hold a shortcut. Move the shortcut to the desired screen and release your finger.

How to turn on super wallpaper on Xiaomi phone

  • On the desktop we find the shortcut “Themes”.
  • Go to the “Profile” section by clicking in the lower right corner of the page.
  • Click on the “Live Wallpaper” tab.
  • Choose Mars, Saturn or Earth.
  • When the screensaver is loaded into the preview, tap on the top “Change geolocation”.
  • You need to go to your phone settings.
  • Enter Screen menu.
  • At the end of the list there is an item “Control center and notification curtain“, click on it.
  • Inside the menu, enable the option “Use the new control center“.

To customize the interface and add the desired icon to the quick access field, follow the algorithm:

  • Unlock your phone.
  • Swipe down the notification shade.
  • Click on the button. checkmark or pencil. next to the gear.
  • An additional panel will open where you can add the necessary applications and functions.

To do this, open the curtain, press and hold the gear icon for 5-7 seconds. After that, you will be taken to the settings, and at the very bottom in the “System” section, a new item “System UI Tuner” will appear. Here you can modify the notification bar and Android curtain.

  • Open phone settings.
  • Tap Apps & notifications Notifications. Select the settings you want to set as default. Scroll to Lock screen notifications and select: Lock screen notifications Notifications containing sensitive data

Having opened the curtain, find the “Sort” icon, sometimes it is hidden on the right side of it, swipe from right to left. Enter sort mode. You see the explicit part and the hidden part, it is possible to drag the icon from one to another. The shortcuts in the hidden part will not be visible on the screen during normal operation, if you do not use some function, it is wise to hide it to make it easier to navigate. For example, I will move the “Savings” icon to the visible part of the first screen of the curtain, after which I will click on the “Done” button. This is how the modified quick access menu looks like. All changes can be carried out any number of times to your taste.

When you open the menu in the upper right corner is the “Gear” icon, by clicking on which you will be taken to the Xiaomi settings. This icon can be changed to “Search”.

To do this, in the settings, find the item “Screen”. Now “Cutout and Status Bar”. At the bottom of the list you will see the menu “Shortcut in the notification curtain” in which the icon changes.

How to change the look

In MIUI 11, it is possible not only to edit the position of the buttons, but also the appearance, but for this you need to download a theme that contains the changes that you want to see on your smartphone every day.

At the same time, it is not necessary to change the theme entirely, in MIUI it is possible to change each interface component separately, now I will demonstrate how to do this.

Open the settings, enter the “Themes” menu. Find a theme to your liking, for example, I downloaded the One Dual template. Then go to the “Components” menu. Select “Status Bar”. And mark the theme from which you want to see the curtain style. Other components do not change.

  • Open “Settings” → “Advanced settings”.
  • Move the slider to the right in the line “Hide on-screen buttons”.
  • Agree with the system warning about the possible incorrect operation of applications.

How to disable the white bar at the bottom of the Xiaomi screen

  • Settings—Advanced Settings—Full Screen
  • Here you will need to disable the item, which can be called differently, depending on the firmware version. For example, “Hide full screen indicator” or “Disable full screen indicator”.

Open Settings, find and go to Hide navigation bar/Hide navigation buttons, and see if the toggle is enabled. If yes, perhaps. you accidentally clicked on the down arrow on the navigation bar and hid it. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to display the navigation bar.

We go along the path “Settings”. “System”. “System navigation”. Open the navigation button settings. Now you need to turn the toggle switch to an inactive position, after which “Home” on the screen of the Android device will no longer be.

You can enable screen recording on the Xiaomi 12 Pro phone without third-party programs, as the developers have provided a special function. It is activated through the notification curtain. The user just needs to click on the icon with the image of a video camera.

After clicking, fixing what is happening will start automatically. If this does not happen, then you will need to press another characteristic “Rec” button, which will appear on the display. To stop, you need to click on the red icon again, but now it will be presented as a square, not a circle.

Also, the Xiaomi 12 Pro smartphone allows you to fine-tune the function. All the necessary parameters are located in the device settings in the “Screen Recording” item. So, it is possible to change the frame rate, resolution and input method, that is, sound recording (microphone or system).

Special programs

If the built-in recording tool does not work, and you need to capture what is happening on the screen here and now, it is recommended to turn to third-party software for help.

AZ Screen Recorder

A simple app that you should definitely put on your Xiaomi 12 Pro phone, as AZ Screen Recorder not only records what is happening on the screen, but also allows you to take screenshots. Interaction with the program is as follows:

  • Install AZ Screen Recorder via Official Android App Store.
  • Run the program.
  • After launch, you will not see the familiar interface of the Android application, but a functional window will appear in the notification shade.
  • To start recording video, just click on the “Record” button.
  • Also, from the notification curtain, the video is paused or completely stopped.

At the end of the recording, the user will see a pop-up window that will allow you to send the video or pre-edit it. To close the application, you need to unload AZ Screen Recorder from RAM.

D.U. Recorder

Another good program that has collected many positive reviews. To record a screen, you need:

  • Install DU Recorder via Play Market.
  • Run utility.
  • Allow it to run on top of other windows.
  • Press the record button that will appear on the screen, or do the same, but through the notification shade.
  • To end the process, click on the “Stop” button or pause the recording to continue further.

How to make bottom bezel transparent on iPhone? (Dock panel)

If you don’t know how to make bottom bezel transparent on iPhone? In this article we will tell you in detail, read on.

iPhone fans around the world are still mourning the loss of the famous black wallpaper. A custom image that exploited an iOS glitch and caused the bottom bezel of the iPhone to disappear. Unfortunately, Apple fixed the glitch in iOS 10.2 and the wallpaper stopped working. It’s a bummer, but there are other wallpapers that hide the dock on the iPhone in Apple’s latest iOS software. How to make bottom bezel transparent on iPhone?

He is known as “heyeased”. Nakatani has become known to Apple fans for his unique wallpapers that he creates. He was one of the first to create wallpapers that used obscure iOS glitches to create interesting effects. The wallpaper maker with this feature is back with a new collection of “Strange Dock” wallpapers that will make the bottom bar of the iPhone disappear.

Now he’s back with a fresh batch of wallpapers.

How to Remove the Bottom Bar on iPhone Without Jailbreak?

In order to remove the bottom bar on the iPhone (Dock Bar), you first need to turn off the “Lower Transparency” option. See below how to do it:

How to Remove Notch on iPhone X and Make Bottom Bezel Invisible?

Before the iPhone X was released earlier this month, I thought, like many others, that the phone’s “notch” at the top of the display looked awful. However, when I finally got the phone and got used to it, I realized that this notch distinguishes it from all the banal phones, making it unique.

The notch is a stunning design feature that further differentiates the iPhone X from other smartphones. Of course, some people still don’t like the iPhone X’s screen design, even after using it. For them, there are several tools that allow you to remove the notch in the iPhone X on the main screen or lock screen. To each his own, as they say.

Of course, you can hide the notch through the settings, but we found a collection of strange new wallpapers that took it to the next level. They won’t just hide the notch on the iPhone, they can also remove the bottom bezel.

The first selection of wallpapers comes in seven different colors and they hide the notch and also cause the bottom bar to disappear on your home screen. It’s a pretty cool effect, and it looks like this:

If you like the look but don’t want to mask the notch of your iPhone X. There’s another pick that leaves it in place while making the bottom bezel transparent.

It is available in dozens of different colors, which you can all find on the Nakatani website.

iPhone Bottom Panel: Conclusion

Hideaki Nakatani aka @heyeased has been making transparent wallpapers for years. These elegant wallpapers use a variety of iOS features to create effects you won’t find in regular wallpapers.

His most famous creation was a black wallpaper that hid the bottom bezel on the iPhone, creating a stunning look that Jet Black and matte black iPhone 7 loved. Unfortunately, Apple fixed the bug after a while and the wallpaper stopped working.

Nakatani has since created many new ones, and his latest wallpaper is for the iPhone X. This time, there are two kinds of different wallpaper sets.

Xiaomi Mi Watch comes in a narrow long box, like the Apple Watch. The packaging is pretty solid. Inside only watch, charger, warranty card and instructions.

The body of the accessory is made of polyamide (read “plastic”). It has a tactilely pleasant matte surface, which is easy to confuse with metal. We tested the watch in black, there are also options in dark blue and beige.

The strap in all versions is made of thermoplastic polyurethane with a ribbed texture on the outside. It has a classic metal buckle and two trench coats, one of which has a small “tooth” inside for a more secure fit. Even with very intense workouts, the watch will definitely not fly off your hand. If desired, the complete strap can be easily replaced with leather or fabric.

There are two mechanical buttons on the watch case. The top one opens the menu, and the bottom one allows you to quickly jump to the selection of the type of activity. Both buttons are signed right on the glass of the round screen with a thin white stroke. The glass itself has a slightly rounded edge, but there is no pronounced 2.5D effect, as on the same Amazfit GTR 2.

The watch is quite large and on a thin wrist will seem simply huge, especially considering the thickness of 11.8 mm. This is worth considering if you are thinking about buying.

The manufacturer claims 14-16 days of operation of the device in normal mode. We have a constant measurement of the pulse and automatic activation of the screen when lifting the wrist after 10 days on the watch left 27% of the charge. That is, the promised two weeks are quite real, but it will depend on the number of notifications, screen brightness and the frequency of various measurements.

Xiaomi Mi Watch is powered by a complete magnetic dock. It only takes 45 minutes to fully charge.

Xiaomi Mi Watch received a round AMOLED screen with a diagonal of 1.39 inches and a resolution of 454 × 454 pixels. The maximum brightness is 450 cd / m², which allows you not to worry about readability in the sun. The picture is always bright and contrasting. The characters on the screen are large enough not to look closely at the text.

The built-in light sensor is responsible for adjusting the backlight. There is also support for Always On to display the time in 24/7 mode and the function of activating the screen when raising the wrist. The latter works quickly and almost error-free. Sometimes even a slight movement of the hand is counted as a rise.

The watch can store 5-6 watch faces, and the rest are available for download and installation through the application. There are about 90 options in total, but many are very similar to each other.

Navigation GPS / GLONASS
Battery 420 mAh
Working hours Up to 16 days
The size 45.9×53.35×11.8mm
Weight 32 g

Functionally, Mi Watch does not differ from inexpensive Amazfit and Huawei models, but the menu and interface on Xiaomi watches are arranged a little differently. When scrolling through the main metrics, you cannot swipe down to see more data for the same weather or sleep session.

Details on all indicators of activity or sleep are only available by going to the corresponding widget from the main menu, represented by a set of icons.

Swiping up from the bottom edge of the watch face opens the quick settings screen, which also displays the status of the connection to the smartphone and battery charge.

A swipe down from the top of the watch face brings up the notification shade (with the “Empty” delete all notifications button incorrectly translated).

The dials are changed in the standard way. by clamping. You can’t configure them from the watch, but there are several useful options in the application, which are discussed below.

Review of Xiaomi Mi Watch. smart watches for sports and not only

Mi Watch is the first watch under Xiaomi’s own brand, which went to official Russian retail. What they are and what models they can compete with. let’s figure it out in this review.

The watch connects to smartphones via Bluetooth 5.0 through the new Xiaomi Wear app. Visually, the program is attractive. It contains all the metrics and settings. There’s even a fun 3D avatar to spice up a boring set of numbers and charts.

All data about physical activity or sleep sessions can be viewed by the day, week or month. You can also change the datsource for each metric and display steps, for example, from a bracelet, and everything else from a watch. Very comfortably.

In many sections, a small reference is provided, which describes the principles of calculation and conclusions that can be drawn based on your indicators.

In the profile settings, you can set your own parameters, select a watch face, set up notifications from applications and reassign the bottom mechanical button. True, you can select for it only a certain sport mode, but not other functions.

For some watch faces in the application, you can select data for output, changing, for example, heart rate to steps or distance, as well as customize the background. If you wish, you can put a photo from the memory of your smartphone or any picture.

Xiaomi Wear makes a good impression, if not for one thing: slow data synchronization. You can go to the application to evaluate your activity for the day, and just see nothing. For some unknown reason, some information from the watch appears in the application only after some time.

We also note the strange work of the weather update function: when the temperature is synchronized, the second Xiaomi Wear icon appears in the smartphone curtain, which can be there for hours. And there is no way to remove it, unless you turn off the weather update completely.
