Scanning documents [step by step instruction]
If you already have a scanner (all-in-one printer) connected to your computer, you can skip this step.
Generally the connection itself is not very hard: Just plug the scanner/printer into the network and connect it to a PC via USB cable (as shown in the picture below).
If the LEDs on the body of the device light up, you may have heard a faint rattle. then the device began to work.
The most common problem is with the installation and configuration of drivers. Here are a few possible cases.
1) You have the driver and scan software on the CD
Probably the most favorable case. If you have such a disk, from it all is installed, and the PC / laptop sees the scanner. most likely, you do not need my article (at least the first 2 parts).
2) Windows was able to automatically detect the device
If you don’t have a CD, but Windows automatically picked up and installed the driver for your scanner when you plugged it in. Already pretty good! (see. Windows automatically picked up and installed the driver for your scanner (see the screenshot below how the window looks like when the drivers for your connected device are installed)
Modern Windows 10 is not a bad system in this respect. automatically finds drivers even for quite old devices. By the way, I also recommend here the utilities for driver auto-updating.
CanoScan device is plugged in and ready to use
I still recommend going to Device Manager and checking for any yellow exclamation marks (indicating driver problems/no drivers) in front of the scanner. About this see. just below.
The worst-case scenario. So, first of all open the Device Manager (Press WinR. and enter the devmgmt command in the window that opens.msc ). See. example below.
Launch Device Manager. devmgmt.msc
Then take a look at the “Other Devices” tab. “Imaging Devices”. If the scanner driver is not installed, you should see one device with a yellow exclamation mark (as in the example below).
Right click on it and open its properties.
Then, in the “Information” tab. Properties, select “Hardware ID” and copy the first line of the values (see “How to make a link to your iPhone” on the “Properties” tab). screenshot below ).
This line contains VID and PID (unique identifiers of “hardware”, each hardware has its own, unique). Knowing them, you can manually find the driver for this hardware.
After that, insert the copied line into any of the search engines (Google, Yandex, etc.) and choose the driver you need.) and search for. Almost certainly on the first 3-5 found sites you will be able to download the driver you are looking for. Still have to download/install. I’m omitting this step.
By the way, if you are dealing with old hardware. It is possible that the driver auto-installer will not be available (t.е. all drivers on the scanner will simply be compressed in the archive).
In this case you will need to unzip the archive, then reopen the device manager, find the scanner, and run the driver update (see “Download the driver update” on page 52). example below ).
Then in the window indicate that the update will be done manually.
Do a search on this PC (clickable)
Select a folder where you have unzipped the files and press “Next.
Specify the driver folder (clickable)
Windows will think for a few seconds and if the right driver is installed, you will see a success window.
After that, in the Device Manager you should see the name of your scanner without any exclamation points and red crosses (see “Scanner”). screenshot below).
How to scan a photo on your printer
Nowadays people mostly print digital photos from their computers, but sometimes it happens that it is necessary to scan them. It is important to set up the all-in-one printer correctly so that the image will be of high quality. The procedure on how to scan a document to your computer from your printer is as follows:
- Connect the all-in-one printer to your computer, turn it on. To digitize photos, you need to check that they are free of smudges, fluff, and other dirt.
- Put your photos face down on the scanner glass.
- It is better to scan photos using the program on your PC. This option will give you the opportunity to make adjustments in the preview.
- In the application, specify the type of scanning (black and white, color) and set the format to “Photo”.
- Set the resolution to the highest setting. This way you can scan a photo in the best quality.
- If you want a good copy of the file, you should not make any changes to the settings during the process or lift the cover.
- After the procedure, save the file in any convenient location on your computer.
- Use a graphics editor to correct the image. It will give you more options than the scanner software.
What you need to know before you start working with your scanner, printer on your computer?
In order to avoid possible conflicts with the equipment and other difficulties while scanning a photo or a document it is extremely important to prepare properly for this process and make sure that certain conditions are met. So what do you need to know before you start using the scanner, printer on your computer:
- Make sure your product is designed to scan documents. Despite the fact that modern office equipment on the market today is multifunctional, there are quite a few narrow profile models that do not have a scanning function;
- Make sure your printer or scanner is properly connected to your computer. Most models allow you to connect to your computer via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, but some personal computers may not have these modules. Therefore, it is best to choose the method of connection via USB-cable, which comes with your device. This way you are sure there will be no problems with the connection;
- After connecting the device to the computer through the USB cord, you need to turn on the device itself. There should be an activation button on it, once you press it one or more of the lights on your device should light up. If this does not happen, it is worth checking the USB cord. It may not be inserted all the way into the connector or it may be damaged. Also, some models of scanners and printers have extra power supplies that you need to plug into an outlet;
IMPORTANT: Some printer or scanner models require additional software (drivers) to be installed. Usually a disk with the necessary software is included with the device itself. If you lose or damage it, you can see the model name on the back of your scanner or printer. Enter the model name into a Yandex or Google search engine and download a compatible driver package for them.
Once you have connected the scanner to your computer and it recognizes it, insert your photo or document into the corresponding slot on the printer/scanner and close it tightly. This completes the preparatory part and we can proceed directly to the actual scanning process.
Sometimes the digitized image is saved automatically in the folder and format you have selected. in some cases the utility requires you to select these settings at the end of the process. Save the digitized photos in a separate folder to make them easy to find, but you do not have to give each a name. that would take too much time.
JPG and TIFF are the best photo resolutions. The first is chosen if the image will be posted in a digital photo album or in an album in the social network.
Format differences are a reduction in image size, though quality decreases at the expense of lost data. At high magnification on the photo with JPG resolution will be noticeable “artifacts” and blurring, something like this.
If the picture is to be further processed, you should choose the TIFF resolution. In this case, the quality is not different from the original, and with the help of special editors the image is easier to restore, returning colors, removing scratches and other defects. However, the photos will be large, so if you have a lot of them, you should take care to have enough space on your computer.
Clear Scanner. Printable scanner
Clear Scanner for Android allows you to scan any document or image directly from your phone. And you don’t have to have a document at hand. You can print scanned documents or images via cloud printing if your smartphone and printer are connected to the same wireless network.
It comes with.
The easiest and fastest method to install the scanner driver is to put them from the native disk. Every device comes with more than just a kilo of waste paper and cellophane. it also includes the disc with the “native” wood. That’s exactly what we need.
Insert it into the drive, then run the installation program. (Pre-connect the device to the power, as well as to the computer) Following the prompts of the interface, start the installation. There is nothing complicated here, just click on “Next”, “Install”, “Continue” or “Ok”. The Windows will do the rest. As usual, you have to reboot at the end.
If you do not have the disk (no matter why, lost or thrown away) then I suggest you a couple of other ways to get your scanner or all-in-one printer to work 100%.
How to transfer a document in Paint
Due to the versatility of the software we can start scanning documents from different programs. For example, from Paint, the photo editor that is available in every version of Windows. This is also very convenient, there is no need to look for the print section. You need to find the program Paint on your computer. Also make sure that the printer is connected to your computer and that all necessary drivers are installed.
Press the ” Start ” button (in Windows 7) or the search button (in Windows 10, 8) and type “Paint”;
Now you can print the ready scanned file, save it as an image in one of the graphic formats or change it. All this you can do through the “File” button by selecting the appropriate menu item.
