As smartphones get thinner and more compact, every excessive fraction of an inch is cut to make room for tight-fitting components.

How to insert a SIM card into an ORRO phone, information with pictures

Have you bought a new phone and don’t know how to install a SIM card? In this article, we will show you how to insert a SIM card into an OPPO phone, the information is relevant for other modern phones, smartphones and tablets as well.

Previously, to install a SIM card in a phone, you had to remove the cover on the back of the case and even pull out the battery, usually under which the slots for SIM cards and memory cards were located. In modern smartphones, including OPPO, the battery is mostly not removable and instead of the usual slot, a slide-out tray is used where a SIM card or 2 SIM cards and a memory card are inserted if supported by the device.

The format of SIM cards has also changed, there used to be large standard ones, now small micro or mini or other formats. The hybrid slot allows you to install 2 SIM cards or one SIM card and memory card, and some phones are equipped with a triple slot where you can install 2 SIM cards and a memory card at the same time.

Now for how to insert a SIM card into an OPPO phone. In some models, a pull-out tray for installing SIM cards can be located both in the side and at the bottom, although it is possible that the manufacturer can position the tray on top.

To remove the tray, you need to insert a special key, the end of which resembles a needle, usually comes with the phone in a hole near the tray itself and press a little after which you can remove the tray. If the key is lost, you can use the same needle, but with care, since the end of the needle is sharpened and can damage the button of the retractable mechanism. I myself have used a needle more than once to remove the SIM tray. Do not confuse with microphone hole!

You may also have to replace the SIM card with a different format, there are communication shops that can cut the old SIM card for the new format. It is safer to go to the nearest office of your mobile operator and replace the SIM card with a new one that fits all available formats, including the oppa phone.

How to find and open a SIM card slot in iPhone

Finding and removing the SIM card tray is often difficult. We are used to the fact that in old mobile phones the SIM card is inserted into the slot located directly under the battery. However, modern phones have a different design. The tray for the SIM card is almost invisible in them. And to open it, you don’t have to remove the back cover and take out the battery.

In the latest generation iPhones, the SIM card slot is located on the right side of the case (approximately in the middle). On older models, it may appear on the upper edge of the case, next to the “Enable” button. Looking closely, you will see a tray cover with a small hole.

The hole is like a keyhole: the tray can only be removed when in use. Usually, when you buy an iPhone in a box, you also find a thin metal wire key. If you insert it into the hole of the plug, it will slide out, after which you can easily pull out the slot itself.

If the key is lost or for some reason your iPhone was not equipped with it, you can take a small paper clip and, by unbending it on one side, use it instead of the key. she will successfully replace him.

How to insert a SIM card into an iPhone

The question of how to insert a SIM card into an iPhone may seem irrelevant: if you buy a SIM card, the employees of the communication salon usually offer services to activate it and insert it themselves. But if you nevertheless decide to do it yourself or while using the iPhone, replace one SIM card with another (or insert an additional one), you may encounter problems:

  • search and open the tray for the SIM card;
  • fitting the SIM card to the required format.

Inserting a SIM card into the tray itself is simple, but for a beginner user, and this can cause certain difficulties.

How to choose the size of the SIM card

If you have been using the same SIM card for a long time, it probably has standard dimensions of 25 x 15 x 0.76 mm. However, modern phone models, including iPhones, have switched to smaller format SIM cards:

  • micro. 15 x 12 x 0.76 mm;
  • nano. 12.30 x 8.80 x 0.67 mm.

Older iPhone 3Gs and 3Gs use a standard format SIM card. However, models 4 and 4S require a micro-SIM, and the iPhone 5 and beyond are already designed for a nano-SIM card, practically consisting of only one chip. You can set the size of the SIM-card without looking at the model, according to the size of the slot for it.

To get a card of the required format, you should contact the communication salon of your mobile operator: there you will be given a new SIM card with the ability to break off its edges to the desired format (micro or nano). In this case, your mobile number will remain the same. This service is usually provided free of charge. In this case, the old SIM card is blocked.

Some craftsmen cut their existing SIM-card to the desired size on their own using stencils (they can be found on the Internet). However, this does not always go smoothly: there is a risk of damaging the chip or cutting the edges of the card unevenly. After inept manipulation, the card can get stuck in the tray and prevent it from opening. Therefore, we do not recommend that you conduct such experiments at home.

How to insert a SIM card into an iPhone

Once you understand the location of the slot and the format of the SIM card, you can easily insert or remove it. The aLGorithm of actions is simple.

  • Disconnect iPhone if it was turned on.
  • Insert the key into the hole of the SIM card slot.
  • Push the key down. This action does not require any force: a little effort is sufficient.
  • The slot will pop out slightly. Hook it up with your fingers and gently pull it out of the iPhone.
  • Remove the old SIM card from the tray (if it was there).
  • Insert the SIM card into the slot. The notches in it will tell you how to do it right. If in doubt, check yourself: the SIM card contacts in relation to the surface of the slot should “look” down.
  • Reinsert the tray gently and push it back.
  • Turn on your iPhone. If you inserted a new SIM card, now is the time to start activating it and setting up the device.

If the iPhone is working properly, you can easily do these manipulations and insert the SIM card into it yourself. If something does not work out (most often the tray does not slide out), contact the service center. And to begin with, under the pretext of replacing the SIM-card, you can come to the cellular salon. Operators will help you insert a SIM card and report a mechanical failure of the tray, if any.

How to open the tray and where to insert the SIM card

It would seem that such an action as changing the SIM card for beginners is difficult. There are few options, but even here inexperienced users manage to break the slot or install the card incorrectly. It takes 5 minutes to open a SIM card on an iPhone, a metal clip from Apple, or, at worst, a suitable tool at hand. The developers have simplified the task, insert a paper clip into the hole and press lightly, the place under the SIM will immediately come out of the case. Be careful when removing, the slot is metal, but thin, it will break with force.

How to insert a SIM card into an iPhone?

reading time: 4 minutes

The best-selling and touted smartphone of the last ten years is full of controversy. On the one hand, the iPhone reflects the innovative achievements of mankind, on the other, mundane problems arise, how to insert a SIM card into the iPhone and activate the network connection. Smartphones from other manufacturers “hide” the SIM card under the battery, Apple took a different path and designed its own SIM installation system.

Which SIM card is right

Before you learn how to insert a SIM card into an iPhone, make sure the card fits into the slot. Every year SIMs are decreasing in size and old models do not support new-type cards with smartphones. The following classification is distinguished:

  • for iPhones 3G and 3 GS, a standard SIM card with a size of 15×20 mm is provided;
  • models 4 and 4S require a 15x12mm micro-SIM card;
  • older than iPhone 5 and 5S, nano-SIM cards 12.3×8.8 mm are used.

Do not be alarmed if the size does not fit into the slot. Operators have adapters of different sizes for each of the options.

Before changing your SIM card, make sure your iPhone is not locked by a Russian operator. Such a nuisance happens when buying a smartphone that has been in use or has been in the hands of a miracle craftsman. Do not try to crop the card yourself to the desired size. Such experiments will only lead to damage to the SIM card, and at the same time the slot. If in doubt about your own abilities, contact the sales center or service, where the service workers will perform all the necessary work.

How to insert a SIM card step by step

Instructions on how to change SIM card on iPhone:

  • Turn off the device. In older models, the on / off button is located at the top edge, in newer ones. on the right side. Wait until the “Turn off” button is displayed on the screen, move it to the desired position.
  • Make sure the card fits into the slot. This information is written on the box with the smartphone or in the instructions. Problems arise with early iPhones; iPhones 3 and 4 will need adapters for modern mini-cards.
  • Find the slot for the SIM, in models older than 3G (except 4 CDMA) it is located in the middle of the right edge.
  • Prepare the included SIM eject clip. In case of loss of special equipment, a household paper clip is suitable, which should be straightened in advance.
  • Insert a paperclip into the hole next to the slot, press down slightly. A little effort is enough to remove the tray.
  • Carefully remove the space under the SIM, do not damage.
  • Remove the old card and put in the new one. Do not be afraid to mix up the position, there are special notches on the map, the contacts are directed downward. If in doubt, look at how the previous card was positioned.

The tray is inserted in one motion, it is impossible to confuse. Make sure the SIM slot is fully inserted. It remains to turn on the smartphone. Connection to the network occurs automatically or with the help of simple operations. If done correctly, you can use iPhone features right away. Sometimes problems arise.

Activation problems

Situations like this are rare but possible. Operators today make it easier to connect, make it automatic. What goes wrong:

  • To activate the tariff package, connect to the Wi-Fi network and go through the identification.
  • If the previous option isn’t workable, connect your iPhone to your computer and turn on iTunes. The program will activate.

If SIM activation fails, restore iPhone via iTunes. All information, third-party and malicious applications will be removed from the device. Re-register online. Another option to fix the problem is to call the operator from another mobile phone and clarify the information.

There is also a loss of a slot, with careless handling or the use of great effort. In this case, the iPhone cannot be used. The problem is solved by buying a new slot. The item is available in tech centers or services.

Another common mechanical problem. Strong pressure displaces or breaks the opening hole. Only going to the service center and replacing the cover for the slot will help here.

Installing a SIM card

So how to insert a SIM card into an iPhone? In the box to the phone there is always a paper clip (it is also called (iScrepka), with the help of which the tray opens. This clip can be seen by something else: a pin, a needle, nail scissors, even a toothpick. But this can be trivial to damage the tray. It is located with right side (on the side of the phone).

We take our paper clip, insert it into the hole of the tray (a very small hole), press it down a little, after which the tray will come out a few millimeters. Then we just take it out with our hands completely.

When the tray is in your hands, place the SIM card in it. It is important that it is placed with the chip down, otherwise the card will not work. Although the tray is designed in such a way that it is impossible to insert the card in another way, some users manage to do it.

Now insert the SIM-card tray back into the slot and press down a little.

Types of SIM-cards

First of all, please note that different iPhones use SIM cards of different sizes. The third generation of Apple phones worked with regular-sized SIM cards. Then came the fourth generation of phones in which only Micro SIM cards could be inserted. Further, the fifth, sixth and seventh generations work only with Nano SIM cards.

All these cards differ only in size: width, length, thickness. Therefore, when buying a starter pack, it is important to check with the seller so that he sells the card of the size you need. Some starter packs come with cards of all standard sizes at the same time: that is, there are special bending lines along which you can break a card for your phone.

How to insert a SIM card into an iPhone? Instructions and tips

No mobile phone will work without a SIM card. Rather, it will work, but fulfill its main function. not. Given the variety of SIM card slots and formats, it is important to know how to insert a SIM card into an iPhone. There is nothing complicated in this, but some points require clarification.

Note that modern smartphones (especially iPhones) are undemanding to this process. For example, older Nokia phones were incredibly complex in this regard. I had to bother a lot and look for a slot where to insert a SIM card. Everything in the iPhone is provided for the convenience of the user: there is no need to remove the back cover, and even a special tool for removing the tray is included in the kit. However, the tray itself was not invented by Apple. All the same Nokia has implemented a removable tray for the first time. But this is past history, and we will go directly to the question itself.

Will a regular SIM card fit into the Micro SIM slot?

During the shortage of Nano and Micro SIM formats, people did not know how to insert a regular-sized SIM card into an iPhone, but they still found a way out. They simply cut a regular large SIM to the size they wanted and inserted it into the phone. Even the metal contact had to be cut off. Surprisingly, it worked and the phone received the signal of the desired operator perfectly. Even today, a typical stock SIM can be cut to Nano or Micro SIM size and it will work.

Settings

Now we know how to insert a SIM card into an iPhone, but what to do next? Important: you don’t have to turn off your phone. Previously, you had to remove the battery, and only then insert the SIM card, but now there is no such need.

Once the SIM is inside, the phone will ask you to unlock it. It is normal that it is locked by default. To do this, you will need to enter a PIN. You must know this code (it is indicated on the start package), but if this is your old map, then you already know it for sure.

We enter the PIN-code, the blocking is removed and the phone finds the desired network. If the network cannot be found, then in the settings there is an item “Operator”. There you can choose the operator who owns the card. The default option is “Automatic”, and in this position everything should work fine. But there are also exceptions. Therefore, just choose your operator and the phone will immediately find the network. But if problems arise and you still do not know how to insert a SIM card into the “iPhone 5S”, then proceed to the next point.

If the SIM card is not detected

If, after the performed manipulations and even the choice of the operator, the phone writes: “No network”, then this means that you inserted the card incorrectly or the SIM card is inoperative. But it can be even worse: this is when the phone is tied to another operator and can only see its SIM cards.

Yes, it’s unpleasant, but there’s nothing to worry about. They have long learned to remove the lock, so special slots for iPhones are sold on the radio markets, with which even a locked phone will work with any operator. Such a tray is inexpensive. about 150-200 rubles. The kit includes the tray itself, a special chip strip for a SIM card, a paper clip.

This article describes in as much detail as possible how to insert a SIM card into the “iPhone 6”, but this instruction is valid for all models.

How to add a second SIM card to any iPhone

One of the distinguishing features of the iPhone XS and iPhone XR is support for two physical SIM cards. True, while such devices are officially sold only in China.

If you are not planning on taking an iPhone with two SIM cards, there are options to add support for a second card to any iPhone. There are many of them, each has its own pitfalls.

Here are four of the most popular ways to “make friends” iPhone with a second and even third SIM-card. There are no restrictions here, as, for example, in the eSIM standard. The second card will work without problems both in Russia and abroad.

Adapter for 2 SIM-cards

The most affordable way is a simple two-card adapter. The substrate is placed in the native slot of the SIM-card, and a thin cable stretches from it, at the end of which there is a port of the second “SIM”.

The substrate resembles the TurboSIM (R-SIM) “pad”, which was previously actively used to work with smartphones locked to the operator. Sometimes a thinner card tray is supplied in the kit to fit the chip and pass the ribbon.

To make it all look more aesthetically pleasing, the train with a tray is wrapped on the back of the smartphone and closed with a tight cover.

Switching between cards is carried out in the SIM-menu along the path Settings. Phone.

Benefits:

This is the cheapest way to use a second SIM on an iPhone. The module can be used on almost any smartphone, not only on the iPhone.

The second SIM card is easy to remove and insert without turning off the smartphone. Finally, on the second SIM card, calls, messages and the Internet are fully available.

Disadvantages:

Only one of the cards is active. You will not be able to call an inactive one! Without a cover, such an adapter is inconvenient to use, and some will not work: for example, metal and very tight, with a rigid back panel.

And if you drop your iPhone in water or get caught in heavy rain, there is risk of moisture ingress into the SIM card slot. You know the consequences.

As a result, this option is for those who only periodically need to call from a second SIM card. Switched over, did the deed and changed back.

▪️ Buy adapter for iPhone X tray case: 920 rubles.
▪️ Adapter for iPhone 8/8 Plus tray case: 863 rub.
▪️ Adapter for iPhone 7/7 Plus tray case: 812 rubles.
▪️ Adapter for iPhone 6 / 6s / 6 Plus / 6s Plus tray case: 748 rubles.
▪️ Adapter for SIM-card without case: 270 rubles.

Bluetooth key fob with SIM card inside

If you don’t want to spoil the appearance of the device, you can use the Bluetooth-block. It is a very compact phone without an input device or display.

Such a keychain connects to the iPhone and through a special application you can make calls, send and receive messages.

The iPhone turns into just a wireless headset for the device. Some models have a pair of card slots, allowing you to connect not one, but two SIM cards at once.

Benefits:

The keychain will fit any modern smartphone. There is no need to insert anything into the iPhone, as was the case with the previous option. All calls will be placed in a separate application (sometimes it is very convenient to separate calls by different cards).

Both SIM-cards will be active, each of them can be dialed even during a call to the second one. Calling application may contain call recording!

By the way, this keychain allows you to make calls even from an iPad or iPod touch.

Such a keychain will have to be charged every few days. You cannot use a wireless headset during calls (the Bluetooth channel will be busy)

The second SIM card will not be able to use the mobile Internet. And a separate application for calls is not very convenient.

We get an option for those who need a second number exclusively for calls, but not for the Internet. You can find a trinket with a pair of SIM cards and get three numbers in one device.

▪️ Buy Bluetooth-key fob IKOS K1S: 3096 rubles.
▪️ Module iShere K2: 3367 rub.
▪️ SIMADD module with support for two SIM-cards: 3638 rubles.

Wi-Fi router with a SIM card inside

This class of devices originated from external modems, which relatively recently enjoyed great popularity.

An external unit with a connected SIM card turns into a router that distributes mobile Internet via Wi-Fi. Such blocks are more expensive, but have LTE support and can be equipped with a slot for multiple SIM cards.

In our conditions, it will only be possible to distribute the Internet, and some foreign operators thus provide the ability to make Wi-Fi calls through their application.

Some models are able to distribute wired Internet or are equipped with a battery for charging a smartphone.

Benefits:

You can connect multiple devices to such an access point, even laptops. There are models with a built-in battery for recharging the smartphone.

The range of Wi-Fi will be larger than that of Bluetooth. such a module does not need to be held very close to the smartphone. It is also convenient to use the modem in a car by connecting to a power source.

Disadvantages:

In most cases, the second SIM-card will only be able to distribute the Internet. Of all the options to add a SIM card to the iPhone, routers are the most expensive.

The modem with the card must be charged every few days. And to use the mobile Internet from the second card, you will have to disconnect from the Wi-Fi network and connect to a modem.

Therefore, I recommend a router with a SIM card on trips or to those who only need high-speed Internet from the second card.

▪️ Buy a router with LTE support and two SIM-cards: 9268 rubles.
▪️ PowerBank Xiaomi 10,000 mAh with LTE modem: 5085 rubles.
▪️ PowerBank Xiaomi 7 800 mAh with LTE modem: 3166 rubles.

Case with SIM card slot

Logical development of the idea from the previous paragraph. The module for calls was hidden in a case and equipped with a large battery.

Such a case looks massive, but it protects the smartphone from falls and feeds the gadget with a built-in battery. Less battery space than classic charging cases.

Usually it is possible to accommodate a battery similar in capacity to a native iPhone battery. Do not forget that it also powers the radio module for the second SIM card.

So you don’t have to separately charge the unit with the card (the smartphone and the case are charged in transit through one port), and the autonomy of the gadget will increase, if not twice, but exactly one and a half times.

Benefits:

Everything fits into a case without additional devices. The unit with a second SIM card does not need to be charged separately. A native iPhone Lightning cable is enough.

The case adds protection and increases the autonomy of the smartphone. All calls will be placed in a separate application that has the function of recording conversations.

Both SIM-cards will be active, each of them can be dialed even during a call to the second.

Disadvantages:

Unaesthetic appearance. You will need to charge the gadget less often, but charging will take longer. The application for calls on the second SIM-card is not always convenient.

It is not possible to use mobile internet from a second SIM card. The cover will only fit a specific smartphone model.

The option turns out to be interesting from the point of view of battery life: it’s like a battery case, only with a second SIM card.

▪️ Buy a case for iPhone X with 3150 mAh battery: 4925 rubles.
▪️ Case for iPhone 6 / 6s / 7/8 / Plus with 1800/2500 mAh battery: 3773 rubles.
▪️ Case for iPhone 6 / 6s / 7/8 / Plus with 5000 mAh battery: 4654 rub.

Which option to choose

Each of the methods for adding a second card has its own limitations and features, you have to choose the right one exclusively for your scenario of using the second “SIM”.

If the second card is needed very rarely for outgoing calls or backup Internet access, you can take an available adapter and case, switching between cards if necessary.

When the second card is needed regularly only for calls (without the Internet) or for calls from iPad / iPod touch, feel free to take a key fob with a SIM card slot. This option is also suitable for those who do not like to hide the device in ugly cases.

The best option to get a case, an extra battery and a second SIM card is a case with a built-in radio module. Unfortunately, the second card is also here only for calls (without the Internet).

If only access to the network is required from the second card, the easiest way is to put it in a special modem and distribute a signal if necessary.

How to get a SIM card from an iPhone?

Copying contacts from iPhone to iPhone, setting a beautiful wallpaper, or recording a video yourself using just one phone from Apple is not difficult at all. Another thing is from time to time arising technical problems associated with the maintenance of the device. One of them is installing and removing a SIM card; how to properly remove a SIM card from an iPhone or iPad. let’s try to figure it out.

Removing a card from the slot is as easy as inserting a SIM card into an iPhone; before starting manipulations, the user needs to prepare:

  • Substrate. any clean, even and preferably smooth surface, optimally contrasting in color with iPhone and SIM-card.

iPhone XR SIM Card How to Insert or Remove

  • Apple branded paper clip. it is certainly present in the box with the iPhone and, most likely, was used to install the SIM; if there is no such paper clip, an unbent paper clip, a sewing needle, an awl, a toothpick or any other elongated object of a suitable diameter.

Important: it is not recommended to use tools with sharp ends (needles, awls, etc.); if you still have to, you should use them very carefully, without making unnecessary efforts. otherwise there is a high probability of damaging the working elements of the iPhone.

With everything you need in your hands, the owner will be able to remove the SIM card from the phone as easily as unlocking an Apple ID. User actions:

  • Find a SIM card slot with a distinctive hole on one of the ends of your iPhone. It is present on the device in any case. you just need to turn it in your hands and take a closer look at the case.
  • Carefully, without making any effort, insert the sting of a paper clip into the groove of the SIM card slot. you can do this by holding the iPhone both vertically and horizontally.
  • Press lightly with a paper clip inward. so that the slot opens. At this stage, no difficulties should arise; if, despite the efforts of the owner, nothing happens, you should immediately contact the service center. the wizard will deal with the problem as quickly as with a request to reset all settings on the iPhone.
  • Picking up the slot with your fingers (you can use tweezers or small pliers), open it. until the “substrate” for the SIM card completely comes out of the case.
  • Done! The user has successfully retrieved the slot. Now all that remains is to remove the SIM card. it’s no more difficult to do than to set up Touch ID correctly.

Advice: if the SIM gets stuck in the slot during extraction, you should carefully correct its position using a thin needle or wire. At the extraction stage, it makes sense to apply a little more force. this will not harm either the slot or the SIM card itself.

Usually, the SIM can be separated from the “substrate” by ordinary shaking out; if it does not come out, you should try to press on the back side with your finger (it will not damage the chip) or “glue” the non-working side of the SIM card with tape and pull it towards you. That’s all. by safely pulling out the SIM card from the iPhone, the user can replace it with another one or reinsert it into place.

Limitations

There are some restrictions regarding the use of two SIM cards on new smartphones.

  • To connect your iPhone XS or iPhone XR to two different carriers, your smartphone needs to be activated. Only two SIM cards of the same operator can be used on a locked iPhone.
  • If you are using a CDMA SIM card, you will not be able to use the second CDMA network with an additional SIM card.
  • Dual SIM support for iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max only works on iOS 12.1 and newer.

How to check the signal strength of both SIM cards

You can check the signal strength of both SIM cards at any time in the status bar. The signal level of the main SIM card will be displayed as usual, and the second one. under it in the form of four dots.

You can see the signal level of both SIM cards in full in the corner of the Control Center.

How to use dual SIM on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR

With the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, Apple has finally fulfilled the cherished desire of users in China and other Asian countries: the company has added support for two SIM cards. The iPhone XS line was the first to feature dual SIM support, but Apple has brought the feature to life as usual. Operators supporting eSIM in Russia

In Russia, eSIM technology is supported by three mobile operators Tele2, Tinkoff Mobile and Megafon. Although on the official Apple page, Russia is still not among the mobile operators that support eSIM cards.

If you do not live in one of these countries, then you are out of luck. All you can do is wait for your carrier to add eSIM support. It is for this reason that Apple is releasing special versions of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR with two SIM cards in China. ESIM technology is prohibited by law in this country.

How to set up eSIM on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR

It is recommended to use a physical nano-SIM card for your main carrier and eSIM for an additional second number.

Scan the eSIM QR Code

To set up an eSIM on an iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR, you either need to download your carrier’s official app or use the QR code provided by your carrier.

To scan the QR code, go to Settings and then Cellular.

Click Add operator and scan the QR code. You may need to enter a confirmation code provided by the operator.

You can also use your operator’s app to select a tariff and activate a number on your smartphone.

IPhone XS and iPhone XR can store multiple eSIM numbers, but you won’t be able to use them at the same time.

Name the SIM cards

Will iPhone XS, XS Max, XR work with dual SIM from China in Russia?

The company could not help but launch new dual-SIM smartphones in China, as this feature is very popular there. Smartphone options for China with two SIM cards work great in Russia and other countries.

There is only one SIM card slot

Unlike other dual-SIM smartphones, the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR only have one nano-SIM slot, not counting the Chinese models. For the second SIM, Apple used eSIM technology, which first appeared on the iPad and then on the Apple Watch Series 3 last year. Thus, the company saved space inside the smartphone in order to use it for other components.

Dual SIM options are only sold in China, and below we’ll explain in detail why.

How to put a SIM card in an iPhone

To get the sled on which the card is installed, use the special opening key located in a thick envelope.

Determining the SIM card format

The next thing the owner of the iPhone should do is to determine the desired SIM card format. To do this, you need to carefully consider the existing SIM card and check the accepted terminology:

  • if the SIM card has not yet been broken out of the holder, it is simply called SIM. this format is not used in modern iPhones and smartphones based on Android OS (number 1);
  • SIM-cards of the usual size (15 × 25 mm) are called mini-SIMs and are installed in third-generation devices that are clearly not among the most expensive phones in the world (number 2);
  • Smaller SIM cards (12 × 15 millimeters) are micro-SIMs used in fourth-generation iPhones (number 3);
  • SIM cards that are 12.3 × 8.9 mm in size are called nano-SIM and are used in newer iPhone models from the 5th generation (number 4).

Quite often, mini-SIMs are referred to simply as SIMs; while the classification of the remaining SIM cards remains unchanged.

Important: A user who purchases a new SIM card for iPhone does not have to worry about compatibility. The original mini-SIM does not even need to be cut to fit your device. it is enough to carefully break off the desired size, not forgetting to save the frame just in case. it can come in handy when switching to another device.

If the SIM card is old, do not cut it manually. there is a great risk of damaging the chip. It would be much wiser to take the SIM card to any service center or, if funds allow, purchase a device for adjusting the format at home.

Tip: do not break the SIM cards out of the holders until the slot is removed from the iPhone. there is always the possibility of making a mistake with the size. If you need to “grow” a SIM-card from a smaller size to a larger one, it is enough to insert it back into a suitable frame. the one from which it was taken out, or any that was at hand.
