How to change the mac address of the computer

Find out the MAC address of the network card, change it for another one

I wrote about how to change the IP-address, but each network card in a computer also has its own unique physical MAC-address. It’s used to identify your device exactly on your network, and is sometimes used to bind your computer to your system login. For example home internet providers use MAC addresses to bind to their customers’ logins, so that nobody from another computer can use your login.

This is for security reasons, but sometimes you have to connect your Internet cable to another network internet. For example, it is often connected to a router or to an external NIC, put there to replace the one that got burned out by a thunderstorm. In this case MAC-address of your computer will change and your internet might not work. There are two ways to proceed:

  • Call your ISP and tell them the new Mac address. The tech support guys will add it into the database instead of the old one and everything will work as it did before. If it is difficult to get through, or everything is very long, or you need a written application, or you just don’t want to get in touch with the support team, it is better to use the second method.
  • Change the Mac address of the new network card to the one that it had before. It is absolutely safe and very easy.

The way, using standard Windows means

In the left column go to “Device Manager”, “Network adapters”, call the context menu of the network card of interest and enter its properties.

In the properties of the network card go to the “Advanced” tab. Select “network address” in properties and write there the value you need. That is all you need to do.

To change the MAC address you must:

Open the “Network Connections” section.

If you do not know how to open it read these instructions.

In the “Network Connections” section right-click on the connection to change its MAC-address and select the “Properties” item in the context menu that appears.

Press the “Configure” button in the window that will open.

Another window will open, in which you must go to the tab “Advanced” and in the list of available properties find the item named “MAC Address”, “Network Address”, “Locally Administered Address” or “Locally Administered Address” (depending on the version of the Windows computer).

After finding this field you must left-click on it. Additional fields will appear to the right of the list. You have to put a tick next to the “Value” field and enter the desired MAC address in this field (see “MAC Address” on page 22). the image below). Then press the “OK” button and restart the computer.

Important. The MAC-address must be entered without spaces, dots, slashes or other similar inserts between characters. It must be 12 characters, which can include Arabic numerals from 0 to 9 and the first 6 letters of the English alphabet.

After a reboot the MAC-address must change to the one you have specified during the above settings. You can check it using one of the following methods.

How to know the MAC address of your computer

MAC address of the computer. is a unique permanent identifier of its network card. It’s six pairs of characters separated by colons or dashes.

MAC-address is often used by Internet service providers to bind their services only to one computer. Note that if your computer has more than one network card it will have multiple MAC addresses at once. When configuring the network one has to take into account the MAC-address of the network adapter, through which the computer is connected to this network.

If you need to find out your computer’s MAC address, there are several ways to do it.

How to connect two computers with a network cable

The number of owners of two or more home computers (laptops) is constantly increasing. From time to time every such person has a need to transfer certain files from one computer to another.

For this purpose it is possible to use removable media, Bluetooth, etc., but if we are talking about transferring large amounts of information, the most practical and fastest way would be to connect the computer directly to the computer through their network cards. Besides this connection you can use it to connect the second computer to the Internet connection of the first one, and also to perform other tasks.

How to open the “Network Connections” section

In many instructions on how to configure the computer’s network settings, it is recommended to open the “Network Connections” section and perform some actions in it. However, such instructions often do not specify how exactly this section can be accessed.

How to know IP-address of computer

The concept of “IP address of the computer” is one of the fundamentals and is very important for understanding how any modern computer network works, as well as successfully using all the advantages of networking technologies.

In this short article you will learn what an IP address is and what it means in practice.

How to enable AHCI mode for SATA in Windows Vista and Windows 7

AHCI is an advanced mode of the SATA interface (connector) through which modern storage devices (hard disks, SSDs) are connected to the computer’s motherboard. Using AHCI allows you to speed up your computer’s disk subsystem.

Checking Changes

To check for MAC address changes on a Windows 10 computer, you can use the command ” getmac /v /fo list “. To do this, simply run the command line and execute the specified command. As a result, the command line will list all network connections and their current MAC-address (Physical address).

An alternative option is the ” msinfo32 ” command. In this case you need to press the Win-R key combination and execute the specified command.

After executing this command you will see a window “System Information”. Here you go to ” Components. Networking. Adapter ” and look for the network card, for which you changed the Mac address.

If you have done everything correctly, you will see the value you want in the “MAC-address” line.

Change using the registry editor

This method is most relevant to those who use Windows XP, 7 and 8. It will also not take much time, but will give you the result you need.

  • As in the previous case, the user must go to the “Run” window, pressing the “Win” and “R” keys. At the opening line must be typed “regedit”, then the registry editor will open.
  • To find the folder you are looking for, you will first need to find the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” section, which contains many folders. In this case we need the SYSTEM and ControlClass folders. This section is also quite bulky and consists of seemingly identical folders. You must find the one called. Once this folder is found, another list can be found, which is responsible for all network devices. The user must find the one whose Mac address must be changed. Pay attention to “DriverDesk” when browsing.

Change the MAC address of your network card forever

Hello Hubr! I think everybody has heard that the MAC address of the network card is unique and is given by the manufacturer. There are situations when you need to change it not just softly under the axis, but on a Hard level. Most of network cards have EEPROM memory chip, in which the information about the model and configurations for driver pulling, as well as MAC address is stored.

The 93LC46A memory chip is used in this network card.

According to the datasheet connect the memory chip to the programmer, in my case. PICkit 2.

There are a lot of schemes for EEPROM memory, especially simple ones on the Internet, even a high school student can do them.

Next, do not forget to cut the track going to power this chip, so the programmer does not power the whole card.

In my case it is the line from the 8th pin of the chip. Read memory and write it to HEX file.

Find in the array of MAC values, in my case 00 C0 26 AA 51 61, in some manufacturers it is possible to write with the reverse sequence of bytes in the word: C0 00 AA 26 61 51.

Alas HABRAHABR not fit in the hexadecimal system. so nothing better than DECODED of characters I have not invented. Having changed the MAC in the HEX file to 11 DE C0 DE D1 11, I sew it back into the chip. Carefully solder the track we cut earlier. And insert the card into the system.

As you can see from the command line. all was successful.

This article will give many people a reason to think that hardware also has interesting aspects in solving certain problems which can be partially or temporarily realized by software, or in some situations are not possible at all.

Total BAN, or the wonders of Mac address spoofing in Win7

All of us are a bit children, and most probably like to treat themselves after a hard day’s work fidgeting unhurriedly clicking the mouse in some online game.

With wonderful world of online-toys I got acquainted very, very long ago, and somehow it happened that after 5-6 years I seldom began to play anything honestly.

Maybe I’m the only one who’s so shallow, and didn’t know about what I’m going to talk about, but I sincerely hope that this little tip will be useful to someone not only in the field of online entertainment. As it turns out, Mac address, USB, and win7 are a tricky bunch. So the stars were that on a European server, a not very popular toy, tired to ban my numerous accounts I was banned in some way, in the game I logged in, the server name, but could not zaspawnirovat in the world. printed with an error.

By scrolling through several forums, I figured out the ways I could be banned, as I was assured.

  • ip-address. the most trivial, of course the first.
  • Mac. address.
  • hwid
  • volume ID
  • all sorts of system trivia like usernames and computer names

Well, about the change of IP, and little things from the last point I will not spell it out. not the place. If anyone does not know, in a nutshell about 3 and 4 points:

Hidden in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography The numbers can probably be written from scratch, I used a generator.

VolumeID

Now we are going to talk about the most important thing.

Changing the Mac address.

It would seem that there is nothing complicated about replacing the poppy. A long time ago I was shown the NetworkAdress line in the properties of the network card. Only now I connect to the network via WI-FI adapter, and there is no way to connect to the twisted-pair cable. In the properties of the adapter there is simply no NetworkAdress line.

Google. There are two popup swappers. The first is called TMAC, the second SMAC. The difference between them, mainly for the free-lover of philistine is that one is paid, the second is not.

Here everything is simple, the only thing is that the Mac-address of the Wi-Fi adapter must look like XY:XX:XX:XX:XX where Y = 2, 6, A or E, and X is any number. That is, instead of “X” we substitute absolutely any value of the 16th number system. “X2:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX” “X6:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX” “XA:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX” “XE:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX”

Google suggested that it was an obscure win7 feature, implemented ostensibly to protect Wi-Fi networks with Mac address filtering from outside intrusion. There is a long and persistent hidden war against Gates’ creation on one of the support forums. I don’t get it.

SMAC failed to swap out the Mac on my laptop, TMAC swapped everything out the first time, and I had a great shoot for a couple of hours.

It would seem.

“And it was evening, and it was morning. Day 2.”

Of course, every time I reboot the computer, reconnect the adapter, the Mac crashes and I have to swap it out again. The next day both software categorically refused to swap the address, explaining it by the spring depression. with no motivation whatsoever.

A couple more hours with questions on Google, and a dozen forums altogether stumped me. Quite often there is a strong opinion that it is impossible to substitute Mac on USB wi-fi adapter, where it is injected (and it is written on the sticker on the back). The author himself writes about it on TMACa forum.
