How to Change Language on HTC One X
HTC One X. System Upgrade to Android 4.2.2 and HTC Sense 5.0
- Great design and body materials
- The awesome shell of HTC Sense
- Low battery capacity
- Short device support
This article is devoted to the sixth point. precisely, its partial refutation on the example of HTC One X.
Of course, not all manufacturers update all their devices, providing the latest versions of Android for the required 18 months. But the flagships should receive updates throughout the term. After all, buying a top-end smartphone for 29990 rubles (namely, flagships are at the start of sales), the user pays not only for the brand and “iron”but also for support.
HTC with updates is not much worse than other manufacturers. But in recent years there have been several unpleasant events that I want to mention.
Before the exit Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich almost all devices worked on the latter at that time Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The fourth android was revolutionary and had a huge list of changes. HTC promised to update almost all devices in 2011 and the second flagship of 2010. HTC Desire HD. Then came a statement that Desire HD would not receive ICS.
By that time, the HTC One lineup was already released, consisting of HTC One V (budget), HTC One S (middling), HTC One X (flagship). The operating system used was Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 4.0.
The problems began with the fact that HTC decided to separate the HTC One line from the devices of the past. That is, the 2011 gadgets received Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 3.6.
HTC Sense 3.6. this is a pretty buggy shell, which is the port of HTC Sense 3.5 to the fourth android. It is quite usable, but not better than HTC Sense 4.
After the announcement Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates received some smartphone 2012 release (HTC One X, HTC One S, HTC One SV). And here are the flagships of 2011. HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XE, HTC Sensation XL. have not been updated, although 18 months of support have not yet expired.
Worst of all, the Samsung Galaxy SII (direct competitor “sensations” from HTC) got Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Was soon released Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Then came 2013. Manufacturers announced their new flagships. The top-end HTC smartphone called HTC One came out running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and HTC Sense 5. Then it got an update to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The shell version has not changed.
That is, taking into account the events of the past, the HTC One X should have been updated to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with some truncated HTC Sense 4.6 or not updated at all. But a miracle happened. On August 19, 2013, the distribution of updates to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and HTC Sense 5 with HTC BlinkFeed and HTC Zoe began to spread!
System update occurs using FOTA technology (Firmware Over The Air. update by air) .
If the notification was not received, then you need to check for the update manually: Settings. About phone. Software Updates. Check now.
Then you need to click on the button “Download”. Download will begin. Then the smartphone will reboot several times and optimize applications.
Download will have about 380 MB. I advise you to use either an end-to-end Internet connection, since the battery will be charged during the download. You can use Wi-Fi or 3G. But keep in mind that the battery must be at least 70% charged.
Who has already received updates
Typically, the scheme is as follows: Taiwan Europe, Asia, America carrier smartphones. But this time, Russia received updates earlier than Taiwan and other countries. I don’t know what this is connected with, but the fact remains.
As of August 26, 2013, updates have already been received on European devices.
Updates for Taiwan and Asian countries are scheduled for late August. beginning of September.
Carrier smartphones will receive updates after all. Most likely in September. November.
By the way, on the forums you can increasingly find questions about when the HTC One X will be updated on Android 4.1.9. In fact, this model will never be updated, since it is visually a pretty good copy of HTC One X with a fictional version of Android.
List of changes
The official list of changes is as follows:
- Operating system:
- upgrade to Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5
- HTC BlinkFeed
I’ll separately mention some of the innovations of Android 4.2.2 and HTC Sense 5, which are not in the list published above.
An indisputable plus is the ability to add widgets to the lock screen. Any widget cannot be added, as special adaptation is required. However, almost all popular widgets in the Play Store are already optimized.
By the way, a screensaver appeared. It can display colors, gradients, photos, applications.
Of the applications from Google, the most notable changes were Google Now and GMail. The first has more cards, and the second. gestures.
But HTC Sense 5 is similar to that of HTC One. Almost all innovations are similar. in the next section.
HTC Sense 5.0 is a mixture of the classic HTC Sense, minimalism and the default Android interface Holo.
From HTC Sense of previous versions, functionality and a set of standard applications remained.
Many design elements have lost their gloss, the font has become more elongated, widgets have received a number of simplifications. However, this minimalism is misleading. The best example. clock widget. In the screenshots, the watch looks very simple, but in fact, the numbers are flipped, as before, plus there is a beautiful animation of the weather (including moon phases).
Also, in almost all programs where there was scrolling left / right, bulky icons were replaced with more accurate headers in the style of the Holo-interface. Consequently, there was more usable space and was gone “insulation” tabs.
The course to increase productivity can be seen in most interface elements.
The lock screen is highly customizable and has various modes. To unlock, just pull up the lock or watch. Compared to the ring in HTC Sense of previous releases, the zone is greatly increased, which allows you to unlock much faster and more convenient.
HTC BlinkFeed mode has been added to standard desktops. I must say that after the update it is disabled. You can enable in the settings section “Personalization” “Home Screen Style”. BlinkFeed is a news feed on the home screen. As sources of information you can choose a separate site, category, feed from a social network. It is noteworthy that BlinkFeed consumes very little power and memory, so the battery life and smartphone performance are not reduced.
In the application menu, horizontal scrolling is finally replaced by vertical scrolling. Added the ability to create folders, which also has a good effect on performance.
You can write about the fifth sense for a long time. But it’s better to look at him. Alas, the screencast could not be recorded. Therefore, I present to you screenshots of the created in the gallery using HTC Zoe.
