Sometimes you may get a notification that iTunes cannot recognize your iPad, just restart it or replace with a new USB cable.

Step 1. Update iTunes on your computer.

Before backing up iPad or iPhone, you need to update iTunes to the latest version. Mac users: Open the App Store, check Updates at the top, and then click Install if there’s a newer version of iTunes.
