How Samsung S10 Is Different From S10

Bixby button

On the left side of the Galaxy S10, S10 and S10e, as in last year’s flagships Samsung, there is a separate key to call the virtual assistant Bixby. But unlike previous models, it can now be assigned to launch any other program.

Of the entire new line of flagships, the largest battery is installed in the Galaxy S10. 4100 mAh, the S10 uses a 3400 mAh battery, and the S10e. 3100 mAh. At the same time, given the same platform and different diagonals, the autonomy of the models should not differ much, but we can check this already while writing full-fledged reviews.

All three new models received external stereo speakers, one of which is on the bottom edge, and the second is combined with the spoken ones and is located above the display.

In addition, Samsung has not abandoned the 3.5 mm headphone jack, which is good news.

Galaxy S10 and S10 use a system of three main cameras with optical stabilization, which at the same time differ in characteristics and purpose. The main module received a wide-angle 12-megapixel sensor with an f / 1.5 aperture, the additional one has the same resolution, but an f / 2.4 aperture and a telephoto lens. Together they can be used to create portrait shots with a blurred background. But the third camera in the Galaxy S10 and S10 is a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (123 degrees) with a fixed focus and aperture of f / 2.2.

The Galaxy S10e is slightly inferior to the older models in terms of photo shooting capabilities, since the smartphone lacks a telephoto camera. However, the device received exactly the same main and ultra-wide-angle module, so the quality of the images is in no way inferior to more expensive models. Although, of course, a telephoto camera sometimes comes in handy, but not for everyone, its absence will be a minus.

All three models also use an intelligent shooting mode that works on the basis of machine learning and is able to recognize objects in 30 shooting conditions. It turns out such a more advanced automatic mode.

As you can see from the characteristics of the wide-angle and telephoto cameras, they are the same as in the S9 and Note9, and Samsung does not specify whether the matrix size has changed (in previous models it was 1 / 2.55 “in the wide-angle and 1 / 3.4” in the telephoto camera). Apparently, as in the transition from Galaxy S7 to S8, in the “tenth” series, the company only revised the main camera modules. All new to the Galaxy S lineup is the 16MP 123-degree ultra-wide-angle camera that the S10 and S10 have.

I was able to take some pictures after the presentation on the Galaxy S10 prototype. This allows you to get a preliminary idea of the quality of shooting in all three new Samsung smartphones, since they use the same camera modules, with the exception of telephoto, which is not in the S10e.

Galaxy S10, S10 and S10e, despite slightly different positioning, are built on the same platform, which is based on the Exynos 9820 processor (in the US. Snapdragon 855). Samsung’s new chip is built on an 8 nanometer process technology and uses a three-cluster architecture. The chip employs two high-performance M4 cores to perform resource-intensive tasks, which are 20% faster than last year’s M3 cores. But if the task does not require maximum performance, then two ARM Cortex A75 cores with balanced power consumption are included. And for basic tasks, there are four energy-efficient computing cores ARM Cortex A55.

In terms of graphics, for its processing, the new GPU Mali-G76 MP12, which includes 12 cores and provides a performance increase of 40% compared with last year’s Mali-G72 graphics solution. At the same time, despite the fact that the new chip has fewer cores (12 versus 18), they include 2 times more computing units, which provides an increase in performance.

The amount of RAM in the Galaxy S10e is 6 GB, and in the Galaxy S10 and S10 8 GB of “RAM”.

The S10 and S10e have 128GB of internal storage, while the Galaxy S10 has a 512GB option and a 1TB version in select countries.

Wireless modules in all three models include the new Wi-Fi 6 standard, as well as Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and ANT. Positioning is carried out by supporting the global satellite systems GPS, Galileo, Beidou and GLONASS.

All models work on the basis of the Android 9.0 operating system with the proprietary Samsung One UI, which we recently talked about in a separate article.

Wireless charger

New Samsung smartphones receive support for faster wireless charging, the company claims that it is 36% faster than the previous one.

In addition, the devices now have the ability to wirelessly recharge other devices. To do this, you need to activate the appropriate mode in the settings (you can directly from the notification curtain) and attach the device to the back of the case.

Galaxy S10 is the largest smartphone in the lineup, with a display diagonal of 6.4 inches. The flagship uses a new Dynamic AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 3040 × 1440 pixels (438 ppi) and HDR10 support.

The picture on the screen is very colorful, and the viewing angles are maximum. The cutout for the front camera does not subjectively affect the image quality, even the backlight seems to be quite uniform.

At the same time, apparently, getting used to the small “island” of the front camera on the display will be easier than to the notch, since the latter is more striking.

The Galaxy S10 uses the exact same screen with the same resolution, but the diagonal is smaller. 6.1 inches. And thanks to thinner bezels, the model is smaller than last year’s Galaxy S9, while maintaining the same screen sizes.

The Galaxy S10e has the smallest of the three models, at 5.8 inches. The maximum resolution is also lower. 2280 × 1080 pixels, but the quality of the Dynamic AMOLED matrix is at the level of older versions. And given that the latter also use a resolution of 2280 × 1080 pixels by default, the main difference in displays between devices lies precisely in the diagonal.

Features and specifications

While the A80 has the Snapdragon 730 chipset, which is a remarkable mid-range processor, the S10 boasts either the Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9820 (depending on the region), both of which are cutting edge solutions. Both phones have 8GB of RAM and both run Android 9, both use the Samsung One UI.

In fact, the conclusions are not so obvious. On the one hand, we have a much better camera in the A80, and even a larger screen without “holes” and “bangs”. On the other hand, the S10 hardware is much more productive. In addition, the A80 is much “thicker” than its brother, which not everyone will like. So is the floating camera. It looks interesting, but not everyone will like it.

What do you think about these two devices? Tell us about it in our chat on Telegram.

The new Samsung Galaxy Note series smartphones came out earlier this month and a lot has been said about them. We even talked about the strength of materials in a separate article. Now we need to talk about how the smartphone resists falls. Over, it uses the new Gorilla Glass Victus. Apparently, Corning, which made this glass, did not deceive us and the first smartphone with it really turned out to be very durable. This time, the durability of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has been compared to the iPhone 11 Pro Max and the result is weird. On the one hand, everything is logical, but on the other. Many expected otherwise. Who turned out to be stronger and at what comparison?

When we buy a new phone, we count on premium materials and exceptional reliability. We want to get only the best quality and keep the smartphone in its original form, even after two or three years of use. We are all accustomed to the fact that an expensive modern smartphone should be made of glass and metal. In the end, when Samsung released the plastic Galaxy Note 20, users took it as an insult. Especially against the background of the fact that the company also installed Exynos 990 processors in some models, which in some tests are very much inferior to Snapdragon 865. The smartphone is gradually becoming more and more studied and now experts have established whether it is really bad that the novelty has a plastic case.

Probably, for three years now, how cameras, and not processors or something else, have been the key component that defines flagship smartphones. Over, the more modules that form the camera, the more attractive the device looks, and it does not matter whether customers will use these modules in reality. The main thing is that they exist, and it is the tenth thing to apply them in practice or not. In the light of such reasoning, the idea of the need to increase the resolution of cameras no longer looks so hopeless. Korean engineers seized on this.

Samsung Galaxy A80 vs Galaxy S10: what’s the difference between the latest flagships?

Recently, Samsung launched the Galaxy S10 line of flagship smartphones. Somewhere in the future, there is also a new device under the Note brand. However, the South Korean company is already promoting another flagship, the Galaxy A80. How is this smartphone different from the recent S10? How unique is it? Should I take a closer look at it and think about buying it or is it just another unremarkable smartphone? Let’s figure it out.

It hasn’t been long since Samsung launched the Galaxy S10, but the Galaxy A80 also has a ton of cutting edge features.

While the Samsung Galaxy S10 comes with a 3400mAh battery, you get a 3700mAh battery in the Galaxy A80. This is quite a bit more, but it’s still nice to get a couple of tens of minutes of battery life. At the same time, the Galaxy S10 supports wireless charging (with the function of charging other devices), while the A80 only supports fast charging over the wire.

The Samsung Galaxy A80’s camera is probably the most interesting feature on this device. The phone has a triple-lens camera on the back that can be pulled out of the body and rotated when you want to take a selfie. This should allow the smartphone to take selfies of unprecedented high quality.

The triple camera has 48 megapixel lenses, an 8 megapixel ultrawide and a telephoto lens to add depth to your photos. The autofocus and zoom functions are also quite good. The Galaxy S10 camera is less advanced: the first lens has a resolution of 12 megapixels, 12 megapixels for the telephoto lens and an ultra-wide lens of 16 megapixels.

Case and display

The 6.7-inch screen on the Samsung Galaxy A80 is significantly larger than the 6.1-inch display on the Galaxy S10, and this size “accommodates” even more usable work space thanks to the absence of a “hole” for the front camera. Both phones use Super AMOLED technology for color reproduction, but despite the smaller screen size, the Samsung Galaxy S10 has a better screen resolution. 1440 x 3040 versus 1080 x 2400 for the Galaxy A80.

As for the case, the Galaxy A80 is noticeably thicker. The Galaxy A80 measures 165.2 x 76.5 x 9.3mm, while the Galaxy S10 measures 149.9 x 70.4 x 7.8mm. The case materials for each of the flagships are, as they say, “premium”. So there is a difference in tactile sensations, which everyone will have their own. It is worth mentioning only that the moment that the A80 is more “square”, that is, without rounded corners, which makes it more “grippy”.

All the differences between Samsung Galaxy S10, S10e, S10 and Note 9

Samsung has finally held the long-awaited event, during which it presented its flagship smartphones Galaxy S10 2019. However, the range of flagships this year turned out to be wider than usual. There is the basis of the line. The S10 model, a more advanced model. S10 and, on the contrary, a SIMplified version of the flagship. S10e.

In this article, we propose to compare in detail the versions of the Galaxy S10 with each other. In particular, we will compare the S10 and S10e in terms of key characteristics, as well as the S10 and S10. And in the final part, let’s take a look at the difference between the S10 / S10 and the most powerful Samsung smartphone of last year. The Note 9 phablet.

Differences between Galaxy S10 and S10

Now let’s take a look at the differences between the S10 model and its “big brother”. S10 (S10 Plus). There are not so many differences between the two devices:

  • Display: S10. 6.1 ”, S10. 6.4 ”;
  • Pixel density: S10. 550 PPI, S10. 522 PPI;
  • Front camera: S10. Single (10 MPx), S10. Double (10 8 MPx);
  • The maximum amount of flash memory: S10. 512 GB, S10. 1 TB;

S10 next to S10

  • Maximum RAM: S10. 8 GB, S10. 12 GB;
  • Ceramic cases: S10 only (for versions with 12 GB RAM and 1 TB flash);
  • Battery capacity: S10. 3400 mAh, S10. 4100 mAh;
  • Weight: S10. 157g, S10. 175g.

Thus, the key differences between the S10 and S10, in addition to the slightly different diagonal display, are the front camera (the S10 has a dual one) and the battery capacity.

The rest of the impressive list of characteristics in the devices does not differ. Both use a curved Super AMOLED display with a notch for the front camera (the only difference is that there are two S10 cameras in the notch). The heart of the gadgets is the Exynos 9820 processor. The triple camera in S10 and S10 also does not differ in any of the parameters.

Dual front cameras in the S10. The second module acts as a depth sensor, which provides the best quality background blur

The smartphones are equipped with an advanced ultrasonic fingerprint scanner built into the display, UFS 2.1 memory. There are stereo speakers, USB-C, NFC, the 3.5 mm jack remained in its place. Also on site support for memory cards, protection against immersion in unsalted water IP68.

Both gadgets support fast and wireless charging, including reversible charging (recharging other smartphones that support wireless charging). Both recognize the faces of the owners, and are also equipped with the latest LTE modem with a theoretical speed of up to 2 Gb / s and a Wi-Fi 6 (ax) module.

Differences between Galaxy S10 and S10e

Let’s start looking for differences between the S10 and S10e. This comparison is essential to give you an idea of what you’re missing out on when choosing the more affordable Galaxy S10e over the regular Galaxy S10.

  • Display: S10. 6.1 ” with camera cutout; S10e. 5.8 ”. With a cutout for the camera;
  • Display shape: S10. Rounded on the side edges, S10e. Flat;
  • Resolution, pixel density: S10. 14403040 (550 PPI); S10e. 10802280 (438 PPI);
  • Protective glass: S10. Gorilla Glass 6, S10e. Gorilla Glass 5;
  • Bezels: The S10 is noticeably thinner than the S10e

Left to right: Galaxy S10e, S10, S10

  • Rear camera: S10. 3 modules (main, telephoto, wide-angle); S10e. 2 modules (main, wide-angle);
  • Optical zoom and background blur: only in S10 (since the S10e lacks the telephoto module responsible for these operations);
  • Fingerprint scanner: S10. Ultrasonic scanner, integrated into the display, S10e. Physical, on the side of the smartphone;

The S10’s fingerprint scanner is accompanied by a stunning ripple effect

  • Flash memory: S10. Versions for 128 and 512 GB, S10e. Versions for 128 and 256 GB;
  • Battery capacity: S10. 3400 mAh, S10e. 3100 mAh;
  • Thickness: S10. 7.8mm, S10e. 7.9mm;
  • Weight: S10. 157g, S10e. 150g.

Thus, when choosing the S10e, you will get a slightly smaller display with larger bezels, a lower resolution and, as a result, a lower pixel density (in practice, you will not notice the difference between 550 and 438 PPI). But what you should definitely pay attention to is the usual flat display in the S10e instead of the branded rounding on the side edges in the S10.

Perhaps the two most important differences are the cameras and the fingerprint scanner. In particular, the S10e and S10 have the same main and wide-angle camera modules. However, the third module with a telephoto lens is present only in the S10. It is he who is responsible for the high-quality blurring of the background and double optical magnification. The S10e does not have this.

For the first time, the line of Samsung flagships is represented by three key models at once

Also, the ultrasound scanner under the display in the S10e has been replaced with a conventional physical scanner integrated into the side panel. It may be a little less convenient than the scanner on the front, but it helped Samsung reduce the price of the S10e against the background of the more expensive S10.

Now let’s take a look at how the S10 and S10e, on the contrary, are no different. The following elements are common in smartphones:

  • Display type: Super AMOLED display with Always-on display support;
  • Processor: Exynos 9820;
  • Camera: the main and wide-angle modules of the Galaxy S10 and S10e are completely the same (main: 12 MPx, 1.4 μm, f / 1.5-2.4, 77-degree view; wide-angle: 16 MPx, f / 2.2, 123-degree view);
  • Super slow motion video recording: 720p @ 960FPS;
  • The front camera is also completely the same: 10 MPx, f / 1.9, autofocus, 4K shooting;
  • Face recognition;

S10e, S10 and S10 side by side

  • Sound: stereo speakers;
  • USB-C;
  • Fast charging;
  • Wireless charger;
  • LTE modem: up to 2 Gb / s;
  • Wi-Fi 6 (ax);
  • NFC;

Key features of the S10 line in an official video from Samsung

  • Support for memory cards: up to 512 GB;
  • 3.5 mm audio jack;
  • IP68 water protection: immersion no more than 1.5 meters for a maximum of 30 minutes in unsalted water;
  • OS out of the box: Android 9 with Samsung One UI;
  • (!) Please note: infrared port is absent in both devices.

As you can see, the devices have much more in common than differences. The S10e should be identical to the S10 in performance due to the same processor and in the quality of shooting due to the common key module of the rear camera. The front camera of the devices is also identical. The same goes for wireless connections, connectors, sound and water resistance.

Differences S10 and S10 from Note 9

Finally, let’s compare the current flagships S10 and S10 with the most powerful Samsung smartphone in the second half of last year. Note 9. Note 9 differs from S10 and S10 in the following points:

  • Display: Galaxy S10 / S10. 6.1 ” and 6.4 ” with a hole for the front camera, Note. 6.4 ”;
  • Resolution, pixel density: S10 / S10. 14403040 (550 PPI, 522 PPI), Note 9. 14402960 (516 PPI);
  • Aspect ratio: Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus. 19: 9, Note 9. 18.5: 9;
  • Protective glass on both sides: S10 / S10. Gorilla Glass 6, Note 9. Gorilla Glass 5;
  • Bezels: S10 / S10. Minimal, Note 9. Top and bottom;

S10 and Note 9 side by side. A clear difference in the thickness of the frames of the two devices

  • Processor: S10 and S10. Exynos 9820 (8 cores, 2.8 GHz), Note 9. Exynos 9810 (8 cores, 2.7 GHz). Comparison below in the article;
  • Rear camera: S10 / S10. 3 modules (main, telephoto, wide-angle); Note 9. 2 modules (main, telephoto). The main module in the devices is identical (12 MPx, 1.4 microns, f / 1.5-2.4). Telephoto is also the same (12 MPx, f / 2.4);
  • Super slow motion video: S10 and S10 can capture an interval twice as long as the Note 9;
  • Front camera: S10. 10 MPx, S10. 10 8 MPx, Note 9. 8 MPx;
  • Front-facing 4K recording: S10 and S10 only
  • Fingerprint scanner: Galaxy S10 and S10. Ultrasonic, built into the display; Note 9. Physical, on the back;

You can distinguish the current S10 from the Note 9 on the back side by several signs, but the most obvious is a triple camera and the absence of a fingerprint scanner, which moved under the display

  • Built-in stylus: Note 9 only;
  • Iris scanner: Note 9 only;
  • Flash memory (maximum): S10. 512GB, S10. 1TB, Note 9. 512GB
  • RAM: S10 / S10. 8 GB for 128 and 512 GB flash; S10. 12GB for 1TB Flash Note 9. 6GB for 128GB Flash, 8GB for 512GB Flash
  • Maximum speed in LTE networks: S10 and S10. 2 Gb / s, Note 9. 1.2 Gb / s;
  • Maximum speed in LTE networks (recoil): S10 and S10. 316 Mb / s, Note 9. 200 Mb / s;
  • Battery capacity: S10. 3400 mAh; S10. 4100 mAh; Note 9. 4000 mAh;

Compared to the Note 9, the S10 (pictured) has a slightly smaller screen, but a slightly larger battery and an energy efficient processor.

  • Reversible (Reverse) Wireless Charging: Galaxy S10 and S10 only
  • Thickness: Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus. 7.8mm Note 9. 8.9mm;
  • Weight: Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus. 157g and 175g, Note 9. 201g
  • Wi-Fi support: S10 and S10. Wi-Fi 6 (ax), Note 9. Wi-Fi 5 (ac);
  • Touch-sensitive screen area: Note 9 only;
  • OS out of the box: S10 / S10. Android 9 One UI; Note 9. Android 8.1 Samsung Experience.

As a result, Note 9 slightly surpasses the new flagships in screen size, and also features a stylus and an iris scanner. However, in everything else, including the main and front cameras, performance, the speed of the built-in LTE modem, a fingerprint scanner, etc., the victory is on the side of the S10 / S10.

Now let’s take a closer look at the differences between the Exynos 9820 and Exynos 9810 processors. The first is the heart of the S10e, S10 and S10. The second is the basis of the Note 9, as well as the S9 and S9.

Based on the slight difference in the version index, the same number of cores and the minimal difference in clock speeds, one would assume that the two processors are very SIMilar. However, in fact, the difference between them is quite serious (see the rating of processors for smartphones).

  • Released: Exynos 9820 (S10 | S10). Q1 2019, Exynos 9810 (Note 9). Q1 2018;
  • Manufacturing process: Exynos 9820. 8 nm (better), Exynos 9810. 10 nm (worse);
  • Processor core clusters: Exynos 9820. 224 (more flexible and efficient scheme), Exynos 9810. 44;
  • Processor cores: Exynos 9820. M4, A75, A55; Exynos 9810. M3, A55;

In the AnTuTu test, Galaxy S10 based on Exynos 9820 is very much superior to Note 9 and S9 with Exynos 9810. An even more powerful result should be shown by S10 with Snapdragon 855 inside, but this option will not be sold in Russia

  • GPU: Exynos 9820. Mali-G76 MP12; Exynos 9810. Mali-G72 MP18;
  • LTE modem: Exynos 9820. 2 Gb / s; return. 316 Mb / s; Exynos 9810. 1.2 GB / s; return. 200 Mb / s;
  • Supported flash memory: Exynos 9820. UFS 2.1, UFS 3.0, Exynos 9810. Only UFS 2.1;
  • Video recording (maximum resolution): Exynos 9820. 8K, Exynos 9810. 4K;
  • Separate computing unit for machine learning tasks: only in Exynos 9820.

These are the key differences between the Galaxy S10e, S10, S10 and Note 9. Since the announcement of the first three devices took place relatively recently, various clarifications and additions will certainly appear to the available information. We will update this material as new data becomes available.

All models are equipped with a new generation screen. Dynamic AMOLED, which replaced the legendary Super AMOLED matrices from Samsung. In addition to the reference color reproduction and support for the HDR10 standard (the image will be more colorful, rich and realistic), the new screen received the TÜV Rheinland certification and is currently the safest for human health.

In our review of Apple’s True Tone technology, we already wrote about how (and why) blue light hurts our vision (be sure to read this material, even if you do not use an iPhone). To combat this problem, Apple dynamically changes the color balance of the screen, causing the image to appear yellowish. The S10 went further and applied a hardware cyan filter:

Thus, it was possible to reduce by 42% light harmful to the eyes without distorting colors (as happens on the iPhone).

These screens are installed in all versions of the Galaxy S10. The difference is only in size, resolution and shape. The aspect ratio is identical for all. 19: 9. The rest of the display characteristics are as follows:

It’s amazing how much Samsung has changed over the past 10 years. Today it reminds something of Apple from the time of Steve Jobs.

Previously, Samsung implemented “technology for the sake of technology” into its products, and it doesn’t matter that it is inconvenient to use it or it works through time. The main thing is to release faster than competitors!

Take the same fingerprint scanner. Laptops, PDAs and smartphones were ubiquitous with these inconvenient sensors that had to be fiddled with until they recognized the fingerprint. Apple did not consider such technology to be worthy of their smartphone. And only when a really convenient and revolutionary fingerprint scanner appeared that instantly responds to a light touch. We saw the iPhone 5S!

Today, many Chinese manufacturers (take the same Xioami) release smartphones with optical fingerprint sensors built into the screen. The only problem is that it is impossible to use them normally (we wrote about this in the review of Mi 8 Pro). Samsung, like Apple in its time, has long ignored this technology, considering it not good enough for its flagships. And so, the Galaxy S10 became the world’s first smartphone with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor built into the screen, which works perfectly in any conditions (heat, cold, water, even dirt on the hands is not a hindrance)!

Unfortunately, only S10 / S10 Plus owners will be able to experience the full benefit of the new technology. In the younger model, the fingerprint scanner is installed in the side power button.

Front Selfie Camera

All 3 models use an identical 10MP camera module with Dual Pixel autofocus (instant focus). And the older model, the S10 Plus, is equipped with an additional 8 megapixel depth sensor for portraits. For this reason, the cutout in the right corner of the screen is also different (round on the S10e / S10 versus oval on the S10 Plus):

So the only difference between the S10 Plus and the S10e / S10 is the ability to shoot portraits with the front camera with beautiful background blur.

Main camera

Naturally, the rear camera is also different. The S10 / S10 Plus has 3 photo modules:

  • The main one with a resolution of 12 megapixels (Dual Pixel autofocus, optical stabilization, dual aperture F1.5 / F2.4, viewing angle 77 degrees);
  • Zoom camera with a resolution of 12 megapixels (phase detection autofocus, optical stabilization system, aperture F2.4, viewing angle 45 degrees);
  • 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera (no autofocus, F2.2 aperture, 123 degree field of view).

That is, the new product uses the same cameras as on the Galaxy S9 / Note 9 with an additional ultra-wide-angle module.

As for the differences between the models, the Galaxy S10e lacks a zoom module for creating portraits with beautiful background blur. As a result, only 2 cameras are installed on the younger model (regular and ultra-wide-angle).

To better understand what ultra-wide angle is, compare the two photos taken with the S10. Main camera:

Thus, regardless of the chosen model, you will have the opportunity to shoot very interesting and exciting photos.

Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus are made in the style of previous flagships from Samsung. With rounded side edges. The screen on the Galaxy S10e is completely flat (looks like the style of the “budget” iPhone XR):

On the one hand, older models look more futuristic and stylish, however, it is more convenient to use the younger model. On the S10e, there are no glare at the edges of the screen and there are no accidental clicks. You can read more about this problem in this article.

The side frame on all devices is made of aluminum (unfortunately, even the premium version does not have steel). Galaxy S10e looks and feels less impressive than other models.

In addition to all of the above, the models differ from each other in battery capacity, memory size, dimensions. Let’s briefly list the main characteristics with all the differences. The processor is identical in all models. This is a 64-bit Exynos 9820 (8 nm) with 8 cores. Other characteristics:

Body colors

The budget model S10e was clearly designed to compete with the iPhone XR, with colorful cases to suit all tastes. It is available in the original citrus color:

Three other colors. Mother of Pearl, Onyx and Aquamarine are available on all models:

And the most expensive version of the Galaxy S10 Plus, instead of Gorilla Glass 5, received a ceramic body in two colors. Black and white. Compare what mother-of-pearl and white ceramic look like (also note the color of the aluminum frame):

In addition to the premium look, the ceramic case, as opposed to the glass one, has one significant advantage. It cannot be scratched by anything but a diamond or sapphire. The hardness of ceramics on the Mohs scale is 8 (for comparison, the hardness of steel is 4.5).

For an expensive device that you use every day, this is an important factor.

Detailed comparison of the new Samsung Galaxy S10e, S10 and S10 Plus. Or which smartphone to choose?

Samsung has presented its anniversary smartphone of the Galaxy line, or rather, as many as 3 new models! In this article, we will talk about how they differ from each other and whether it is worth overpaying for a more expensive version of the flagship.

So let’s start with the obvious difference:

Varies depending on the country, but on average looks like this:

The premium version of the S10 Plus in a ceramic case costs about 1400.

What to choose?

If you care about a spectacular premium appearance or a large screen, if you want to use the new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor or take portrait photos with beautiful background blur, then you should immediately delete the younger model. Samsung Galaxy S10e.

The Galaxy S10 Plus differs from the Galaxy S10 only in the presence of a dual front camera (for selfie portraits), a slightly larger screen size and a larger battery capacity (this is a tangible advantage).

The premium version of the Galaxy S10 Plus in ceramic, in addition to the ceramic body itself, has a larger amount of internal memory. From a practical point of view, there is no point in overpaying for this model. It’s more of an emotional choice.

Performance: The Drives Are Most Differences

S10e in theory could be the fastest

The hearts of the Samsung Galaxy S10 from the Galaxy S10 and S10e are the same Exynos 9820 or Snapdragon 855 processors used in the US.

The main models in the lineup received 8 GB of RAM, the only exception was the ceramic version of the S10 with 12 GB of RAM.

Since the S10e has a lower screen resolution, we can conclude that it should work much faster than its older brothers in the line. However, this remains to be verified.

The gadgets are available with different built-in memory options:

Galaxy S10e is available in 128GB or 256GB variants.

Galaxy S10 is sold in 128GB and 512GB.

Galaxy S10 can be taken with 128, 512 and 1024 GB storage.

All devices support microSD memory cards up to 512 GB, so the top device’s memory can be swung up to 1.5 TB.

All devices are equipped with USB-C, work with wireless charging and can charge other gadgets that support the Qi standard.

The S10e has a 3100 mAh battery.

The s10 fits 3400 mAh.

S10 4100mAh battery.

Conclusion: oddly enough, in the future, the S10e may turn out to be faster than the s10 and s10 due to the lower screen resolution.

Design: Galaxy S10e can be found in a bright yellow casing

The colors of the new Samsung flagships for every taste

The Galaxy S10 and S10 come in three primary colors: Mother of Pearl (white), Onyx (black), and Aquamarine (green). Premium versions of the latter are also available in white and black ceramic.

In addition to the three base colors, the Galaxy S10e received a Citrus-yellow body.

Dimensions of new smartphones below.

Galaxy S10e: 142.2 x 69.9 x 7.9mm and 150 grams.

Galaxy S10: 149.9 x 70.4 x 7.8mm and 157g.

Galaxy S10: 157.6 x 74.1 x 7.8mm and 175g.

The ceramic version of the S10 weighs 198 grams.

In addition to the main connector on the case of each of the devices, you can find a 3.5-audio output, which many have long considered obsolete.

All devices are protected from moisture according to IP68 standard. But the protection against scratches is different: the S10e uses less technological Gorilla Glass 5 instead of Gorilla Glass 6 in older models.

Conclusion: with the release of the new Galaxy line, Samsung has successfully occupied three niches: compact, standard for 2019 and large flagships.

How the Samsung Galaxy S10 differs from the Galaxy S10 and S10e

Since March 1, new Samsung flagships are already on sale: a regular Galaxy S10, an enlarged S10, as well as a relatively inexpensive S10e.

On the one hand, all the devices in the new line are very SIMilar. On the other hand, they differ in price and feature set. We decided to find out which one is right for you.

Screens: Galaxy S10 and S10 differ only in size

Screens for every taste

The Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10, and S10e feature Super AMOLED displays. They support the Always-on display function, which makes it possible to show important information on the screen even in an inactive state.

The screens of the new flagships have a marketing name, Dynamic AMOLED.

The company says these are the most innovative displays ever to be found in a mobile device. No wonder she makes them herself.

Prior to the Galaxy S10 line, the company was against any cutouts in flagship screens. This set it apart from its competitors. But now each device has a hole for the front camera, which is cut with a laser.

The screens of the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 and S10e are called frameless. At the same time, an asymmetrically large lower frame or “chin” immediately catches the eye. Too bad even Samsung couldn’t handle it.

Galaxy S10 with 6.4-inch screen

Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 and S10e screens differ in size and resolution.

The S10 has a 6.1-inch screen, curved on both sides with a resolution of 2960×1440 pixels and a density of 550 PPI.

The S10 has a 6.4-inch double-curved screen with a resolution of 2960×1440 pixels and a density of 522 PPI.

The S10e has a 5.8-inch flat screen with a resolution of 2280×1080 pixels and a density of 438 PPI.

The latter also has wider bezels that put it in place of the iPhone XR next to the iPhone Xs.

Conclusion: the S10 and S10 screens differ only in size, the s10e has wider bezels and less resolution.

Cameras: 3, 4 and 5 cameras for S10e, S10 and s10 respectively

Single camera cutout is virtually unobtrusive

The Galaxy S10 and S10e have the same front-facing cameras. Each received a single module with a resolution of 10 MP, autofocus, shooting in 4K and an aperture of f / 1.9.

For them, there is a small round cutout in the upper right corner of each of these smartphones.

In addition to this module, the Galaxy S10 received a special 8 MP portrait lens. It measures the depth of space to take pictures with background blur.

This smartphone in the upper right corner is not a round, but an oval cutout, in which two holes fit.

It’s good that the company managed to preserve the touch layer above the cameras, so devices respond to gestures on it.

A whole set of main cameras

Galaxy S10 and S10 have three main cameras.

First 12MP f / 1.5-2.4 variable aperture module, wide-angle with 77-degree view.

Second 16 MP module with f / 2.2 aperture, it is ultra wide-angle with 123-degree view.

The third 12MP module is a telephoto lens, which is needed to SIMulate optical zoom and create portrait shots.

Galaxy S10e does not have a telephoto camera, the other cameras are no different.

Conclusion: the S10e does not have a telephoto lens for optical zoom and portraits, but the S10 has an additional front camera for blurring the background in selfies.

Biometrics: S10e didn’t get an under-screen finger scanner

Fingerprint scanner under the screen

The entire Galaxy S10 lineup can recognize you by sight with the front camera. However, this authentication method can hardly be called secure, and it is not so difficult to deceive it.

To maximize the protection of data on your device, it is best to use a fingerprint scanner.

On the Galaxy S10 and S10, the fingerprint scanner works with ultrasound. It is located at the bottom under the screen and should work even if you use it with dirty hands.

It’s a shame, but the S10e has a more primitive capacitive sensor. It sits on the side of the smartphone and is virtually indistinguishable from the one used on the back of the Galaxy S9.

However, the S10e has an edge in this regard. The fact is that the ultrasonic module almost does not work when using protective glasses, so only a film can be glued to the S10 and S10 screens.

Conclusion: S10 and S10 finger scanner under the screen, S10e on the side.

Bottom line: Choosing a Galaxy smartphone for the price

Which one is better? The one that’s right for you

The current for today are.

Samsung Galaxy S10e: from 56,990 rubles. In the colors Onyx, Aquamarine, Mother of Pearl and Citrus

Samsung Galaxy S10: from 68,990 rubles. In colors Onyx, Aquamarine and Mother of Pearl

Samsung Galaxy S10: from 76,990 rubles. In colors Onyx, Aquamarine and Mother of Pearl

Samsung Galaxy S10 Ceramic: from 124,990 rubles. Per version in a ceramic case in black and white with 1 TB memory and 12 GB RAM.

The devices are different in terms of positioning and cost. The S10e will be chosen by a younger audience, the s10 will be sorted out by business customers, and the s10 will be chosen by geeks who want the most.

Samsung even managed to break into the Luhari segment with a ceramic device.

If you want an Android smartphone from a top brand, go for either one. Each of them is worthy of attention and is suitable for the role of the main smartphone.

If anything, you can find detailed specs of S20 and S20 Ultra in this article. There, too, everything is clear: there are letters, numbers, plates. Everything as you like.

How the Samsung Galaxy S20 differs from the Samsung Galaxy S10

It’s time to properly compare the characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy S20, and at the same time identify the differences between the new flagship and the Samsung Galaxy S10. Here we will also talk about the older devices: S20 and S20 Ultra. In general, today we will get to know all the freshest and most technologically advanced “Koreans”. Flew!

Cameras. As if new, but as if not

Let’s move on to the tastiest. Here, on the one hand, a 64 megapixel camera appeared, which is responsible for zoom. The latter, however, is threefold and at the same time hybrid, since the approximation works by cropping a 64-megapixel frame to 12 megapixels.

Galaxy S20 Ultra

The main camera is represented by the same 12 megapixels. Well, how the same? The Matrix is finally updated (for the first time in four years!). Now its size has grown to 1 / 1.76 inch. Previously, it was with a nail. 1 / 2.55 inches, and this is no longer in any gate. We still live in 2020! However, there is also a downgrade. For example, the Galaxy S10 had a variable aperture: the petals opened up to f / 1.5, then narrowed down to f / 2.4. The automation adjusted the lens to the ambient lighting and other nuances. The Galaxy S20 has a constant aperture lens that is far from the lightest on the market. Just f / 1.8.

Is all this worth our worries? I don’t think so. I’m sure Samsung has improved the quality of the shooting. Another question is how strong. The Galaxy S20 Ultra, for example, is very serious. There is a huge 108 megapixel module, plus aLGorithms, plus 10x hybrid zoom, and that’s all. Against this background, the usual S20 looks faded. Well. But it’s cheaper. And more compact.

I almost forgot! Now even the younger S20 can shoot 8K video. So far it is neither for us nor for you. But not today, so tomorrow TVs and monitors with such a resolution will fall in price, then we will live. Fortunately, the top content can be cut in advance. Today. Technologically.

Iron is definitely the most powerful

The engine compartment is occupied by an Exynos 990 or Snapdragon 865 processor in the US and several other countries. As always, all other things being equal, you need to choose a “dragon”. It’s like taking a “German” on diesel or gasoline. The answer is obvious.

There is not much to tell about the new chipset (both Exynos and Snapdragon). These are SIMply the most powerful “stones” for Android smartphones to date. Perhaps they are even faster than the Apple A13 Bionic in the iPhone 11. However, here it is worth waiting for the first tests, although this is essentially stupid. All these flagships are fierce.

Be that as it may, the new subsystem on a chip includes two interesting nodes. The first is the world’s fastest LPDDR5 RAM. The second smartphone (we take the entire Galaxy S20 line for one) in the world with the same type of memory is Xiaomi Mi 10. Together with a brutal processor and a permanent UFS 3.0 flash drive, it is like something. I’m already looking forward to how the new “galaxy” breaks the benchmarks. However, new processors are not suitable for anything else. There is nowhere to use so much foolishness.

The second is a 5123 (X55 in Snapdragon 865) modem with 5G support. As far as it became known, exactly the same models are supplied to Russia as, for example, to South Korea. The only difference is that 5G is blocked in our devices, because none of the operators has yet massively hurried up. There is a chance Samsung will unlock support at the launch of the fifth generation networks. Or maybe not. After all, marketing and sales of the then already updated models have not been canceled.

Design. Solid waste

In the new S20 and S20, the cameras are not lined up in the middle, as it was before, but in the form of a rectangular burner in the upper left corner. Perhaps this would be an original decision if Huawei, which is about to announce its flagships P40 and P40 Pro in exactly the same “unique” design.

And now it will become much more difficult to understand to others that you have a flagship in your hands, and not some A51 for 20 thousand. We’ll have to stand out in color. Of course, red. It is the most top-end. Even for straight boys. On the other hand, has there ever been a situation where the average character on the street knows what another Korean flagship looks like? So I don’t really care about design.

It is also important to discuss the size of the devices. S20 is the smallest device in the updated line. In terms of dimensions, it can be compared with the Galaxy S10e, which was popular with some fellow citizens last year. In 2020, engineers decided to do without the S20e.

  • S20: 151.7 x 69.1 x 7.9mm / Weight 163g
  • S10e: 142.2 x 69.9 x 7.9mm / 150g

The rest of the weight and size characteristics and not only will be further in the text, in the plate. Now essentially.

And a couple more small but important nuances.

No other member of the line now has a 3.5 mm jack. Waterproof IP68 in place, however, nothing prevented the predecessor from having both. Together with the audio output, the blood oxygen measurement sensor coupled with a heart rate monitor has sunk into oblivion. Now this functionality has moved to Samsung smartwatches. Divide and rule!

Display 120 Hz

The panel is now called Dynamic AMOLED 2X. The resolution has grown a little. After the diagonal: from 6.1 to 6.2. But the refresh rate of the screen has doubled from 60 to 120 Hz. Now the animation looks very smooth. Menu lists, applications, all sorts of tricks and nuances. Everything slides across the screen at a crazy speed. There is only one caveat. 120 hertz works only at FHD-resolution. When you activate the native resolution of 3200 by 1440 pixels, the frequency drops to the standard 60 Hz. Sadness, trouble? Far from it! On a 6.1-inch screen and regular Full HD, more than enough. So there is no reason to panic. However, the same applies to the S20 with a larger diagonal. FHD enough.

And most importantly, prices

It will be especially interesting to compare how much the previous generation cost in due time, and how much it is planned to sell the current one. All infa below:

  • S10 with memory of 8 and 128 GB. 68,990 rubles
  • S20 (8 and 128 GB). 69,990 rubles
  • S10 came out last year with a ratio of 8,256 gigs at 76,990 rubles
  • S20 in the ratio of 8 and 128 GB. Yes, this is a downgrade. 79,990 rubles
  • S20 Ultra (there was no such thing before: 12 128 GB). 99,000 rubles

The rise in price still happened, but not too critical. It is very strange that in older models the amount of built-in memory has decreased. And nothing is known about the availability of other volumes. And this is strange, because “ultra” in nature is also found in a configuration of 16 512 GB. The real king of Samsung!
