Apple Watch vs Xiaomi Mi Band: is it worth paying more

Fitness bracelets should be popular among sports fans, smart watches among office workers and people with an acute shortage of time. Gazeta journalist Anastasia Yevtushenko tested the most popular gadgets on the market from these categories Xiaomi Mi Band and Apple Watch in order to find out how much it is necessary to carry an additional device on the arm.

Naturally, the money question plays an important role. And if the purchase of a fitness bracelet does not hit the wallet too hard (the simplest Mi Band can be purchased for 1,500 rubles), then there may be problems with the purchase of an Apple Watch. the base model costs 26,000 rubles.

The Xiaomi Mi Band smart bracelet offers the following functions: step counting, notification notifications using vibration and a smart alarm clock. “At first, all three functions are pleasing and life seems to be filled with meaning. the realization that the goal of 12,000 steps has been achieved lifts the spirits and inspires the illusion that a typical day actually consists of not only sitting at the computer,” writes Anastasia.

The “smart” alarm clock helps you wake up because it vibrates on your hand until its owner gets up and starts walking.

“Checking the number of steps has become something of a chore because it turned out that you don’t have to be a first-class athlete to overcome 12,000 steps a day. The road to the office took about 4,000 steps, the same number back, and the rest was overcome while wandering around the workspace.

The constant vibration on the arm became less noticeable and only meant that the bracelet was working. Only the type of vibration that meant an incoming call made me look at the phone.

After the Xiaomi Mi Band, it’s time for the Apple Watch. Comparative impressions of the two devices were formed after two weeks of work with the “apple” gadget. The main complaint about the Apple Watch when compared with the Xiaomi tracker touched on battery life. Out of habit, I wanted to use the “smart” wake-up function, but it’s not always possible to put Smart watches on your hand before going to bed. this time has to be used to charge the device “for tomorrow”.

“Everything stalled on the duration of the watch on a single charge. Unfortunately, the watch does not last two full days, which means that before going to bed, one more item is added to the ritual with connecting the phone to the charger, respectively, at night the watch turned out to be busy “recovering” strength, and not my sleep”.

Compared to the Xiaomi Mi Band, the Apple gadget turned out to be more informative: the notification function on a device with a display is much more useful. At the same time, live communication with people began to be accompanied by a constant glance at the Apple Watch, which eliminated the need to get the phone every time, but at the same time added some strangeness to the behavior.

The journalist praised the Apple Watch feature, which signals that the user is sitting in one place for a long time.

“But what really turned out to be useful was the tendency of the watch to ensure that its owner did not sit still for a long time. About once an hour they notify that sitting at the computer is not such a useful activity and you need to warm up urgently.

According to Anastasia, both Mi Band and Apple Watch are perceived as an accessory, without which “you can live in peace.” At the same time, the Apple product is aimed at users who really monitor their activity.

“In the case of the simplest fitness bracelet, one thing is clear. it has nothing to do with fitness. It can be useful for people who want to be sure that they are moving at least a little, as well as for those who believe in the miraculous properties of a “smart” alarm clock.

In the case of the Apple Watch, things are a bit more complicated: the watch is probably really necessary for people who closely monitor their physical activity, as it helps to evaluate not only steps, but also the quality of running, training, cycling and more.

As for other functions, they seemed redundant and necessary for those who are really unable to take their hands off the phone. “For such people, transferring some of the functions to the wrist is more likely to be a kind of breath of air, and for their friends, at least some opportunity to communicate with their interlocutor without a “third extra,” she concluded.

Xiaomi Mi Band 7 impressed all buyers

Wearable electronics are becoming more and more popular and attractive every day in terms of their combination of qualities, that is, more and more people see the point in using it at all. Back in mid-2021, the Mi Band 6 fitness tracker was introduced and launched for sale, which received a whole lot of different features and benefits. Absolutely every person who buys it for himself is guaranteed to be more than satisfied with it, since it is simply elementary that he does not even come close to being equal in terms of the totality of qualities. However, technologies and engineering solutions are constantly evolving and improving, and that is why Xiaomi Mi Band 7 will be presented soon.

So far, the Chinese corporation has not yet presented this kind of novelty to the public, but in the foreseeable future it will happen, which, in turn, will allow many people to buy the best wrist gadget in the world that can surprise everyone with its many features. The brand new wrist gadget will receive a 1.9-inch OLED color screen, and, in addition, the device will boast a lot of new sensors, sensors and various modules. So, in particular, Xiaomi Mi Band 7 will offer users a barometric altimeter to measure the altitude gained, which will be used, among other things, for a more accurate and correct calculation of the distance traveled and the number of calories burned.

The Chinese company Huami is responsible for the production of this gadget, representing a subsidiary brand of Xiaomi. It was she who created all generations of Mi Band trackers, the release of which on the market began in 2014. The new sports bracelet, which will be released in 2022, will be the best among all those that the company has ever created and put on the market, so there is no doubt that tens of millions of people living in various parts of the Earth will want to become its owners. The future novelty is credited with a Bluetooth 5.2 LE module for connecting to smartphones based on Android and iOS, as well as a GPS module for tracking location in space.

Thanks to the presence of GPS, all owners of the new sports bracelet will be able to use it to view the routes traveled, as well as receive data on the average speed of movement, and, in addition, view the data in real time. In the aggregate of all the qualities and features, the brand new sports bracelet in the face of Xiaomi Mi Band 7 is guaranteed to absolutely pleasantly amaze everyone and everyone, that is, many people will want to get it. It remains only to wait for its presentation, and this is scheduled for May-June 2022. After some time, usually a few days or weeks, the novelty will arrive on the store shelf, becoming available for purchase to everyone. An event of this kind will certainly delight many, many people.

Earlier it became known about Xiaomi Mi Watch Revolve. this is a new smart watch with a large screen and a sleep scanner.

Xiaomi Mi Band is perhaps the cheapest fitness bracelet for iPhone

Finally, we waited: the Mi Band fitness bracelet from Xiaomi received support for iOS 7 and higher, which means, firstly, that every owner of apple technology can plunge into the modern world of sports for a very small price, and secondly, what is now we have a reason to take a closer look at the new product 🙂 We’ll talk about the quality of the offer from the Chinese brand in our today’s review.

The Chinese company Xiaomi decided to make serious competition in the crowded market of fitness bracelets. Instead of perverting over the design and materials used, they decided to take the minimum price of the device. And the company achieved its goal: over one million devices were sold in the first three months of sales! And these were only users of Android smartphones. Envy is enough, because the App Store already has a proprietary application for the Mi Band bracelet.

It’s worth starting with an explanation of what caused all this fuss: the price. 13. this is the figure that sounds in all the headlines of the media. In fact, this is the price for which the product was sold by the manufacturer (at the moment it is already 19.99). But the whole point is that Xiaomi works with a priority on the domestic market. Ordering Mi Band from the factory is almost impossible. It is much easier to take it on the same Aliexpress with free delivery to any home in the CIS. This option from resellers will cost approximately 19-25, which is more than acceptable. By comparison, the mega-popular Jawbone Up 24 in the USA costs 129.99, and in our latitudes the price tag is monolithically kept around 200 (thanks to you for the lack of official resellers and the thriving gray market).

The Xiaomi brand (smartphones, TVs, accessories, and so on) has been actively promoted in the post-Soviet space for more than a year now. Of course, Huawei is still far from the same, but healthy competition for us, end users, is only at hand.

Contents of delivery

An eco-friendly box made of cardboard and sealed with a film contains a Spartan set: a fitness tracker, a USB charger and instructions with hieroglyphs understandable only to the Chinese. We didn’t expect anything more.

Mi Band

The fitness tracker consists of a silicone adjustable strap and the body of the device itself. The bracelet has one size, so there will be no shortage of certain models, confusion in parcels and wrist measurements. The latches are pretty secure. The body of Xiaomi Mi Band is made of luminous plastic. On the front insert (it looks like aluminum) there are three LED indicators, at the end there are two contacts for charging, and on the back side there is an embossed company logo. There are no buttons or moving parts, which inspires hope that the bracelet will last a long time. The absence of any gaps and buttons affected the security of the device. the IP67 standard says that you can not remove the Mi Band even in the pool (dust and moisture protection). The weight of the device is only 13g.

The case is inserted into the strap easily and does not strive to pop out even during intense workouts. The appearance of the device as a whole refutes all expectations that only a flawed device can be expected from the Chinese for such a price. We have a stylish, minimalistic bracelet that can be worn not only for sports, but also for everyday activities, regardless of whether you go to a meeting in an expensive suit or with friends in a pub. There are several nice strap color options available. By the way, the layout in which the module is removed makes it possible for accessory manufacturers to produce more stylish straps.

Data synchronization

Pairing takes place using the energy-efficient Bluetooth 4.0 LE protocol. Synchronization takes quite a long time (from 10-15 seconds to several minutes), and if the display of smartphones goes out, you will have to start all over again. When using Mi Band, you do not need to constantly carry a smartphone with you, it is enough to synchronize data once a day. But all information can only be obtained from the iPhone or iPad display.

Functional

Mi Band allows you to: measure the number of steps taken; conduct sleep training; wake up in the most favorable phase of sleep; count the number of calories burned; notify about incoming calls on the iPhone (there is a built-in vibration motor).

Indication

3 LED indicators glow green when charging, blue when an incoming signal (message, call, notification, and so on). If you raise your hand to the level of your face (as if you are looking at a watch), then the remaining charge is shown in green, and the percentage of reaching the goal is shown in blue.

Appendix

Registration in the application is somewhat complicated. For some reason, when activating your account, you will need to enter your phone number, which will receive a unique code. The need for such a step is unclear. For more accurate data processing, you must enter gender, age, height and weight for calorie counting.

The application interface is made in complete minimalism. Readability is very low, and information content is limited by the modest hardware of a fitness bracelet.

The application displays: the number of steps taken, calories burned, distance and current goal; statistics with a chart and the time interval during which you were active; sleep phases and nocturnal activity. Smart alarm settings are also shown here (it wakes up no earlier than 30 minutes before getting up).

Additional features include the ability to find the bracelet by sound if you don’t remember where you put it. There is also support for social networks, but they are purely Chinese, even with no.

The bad news for iPhone users is the lack of English, Russian or any other European languages. At the moment, the application in the App Store is purely in Chinese. We hope that in the near future the situation will be corrected.

Usage

Geeks have long compared the readings of flagship solutions with Mi Band. The results of the steps taken differed with a minimum error, which is not critical. At night with a strap to sleep comfortably enough. Disappointed by the lack of reminders of inactivity and daytime restorative sleep. The display of battery charge and current progress by LED indicators occurs with varying degrees of success (the gesture is not always fixed by the tracker).

Battery

The Mi Band has a built-in 41 mAh battery. Due to the lack of a display and such volatile sensors as a heart rate monitor, the charge lasts for a month of use. The big drawback was the lack of notification when the bracelet is discharged (in this case, the alarm clock will not work).

Summing up

The guys from Xiaomi managed to take a big step towards budget bracelets. Most potential buyers simply do not want to buy a fitness bracelet from a famous brand (Sony, Jawbone,) with a price tag well over 100 because they can simply get bored with it, and the iPhone itself will easily perform the lion’s share of these functions. Yes, Mi Band cannot measure heart rate, conduct GPS tracking, display time, and so on. But the functionality that is embedded in it is practically in no way inferior to that of the leading devices in the segment. With him, you may not plunge headlong into professional sports, but still you will come closer to controlling your body. And if you do not know if you need a fitness bracelet that has already become mainstream, just buy Xiaomi Mi Band. It will be inexpensive and efficient.

The whole truth about connecting Xiaomi Mi Watch

Watches, charging, beautiful packaging, papers. that’s what awaits you after unpacking. Well, it seems to be a standard set for completing Smart-watches, but that was not the case. Because Xiaomi not only forgot to put the English instructions in the kit, but also did not indicate that you need to connect the watch to the iPhone and Android not through the infused application, but through the WearOS program from Google.

We have not been able to connect the Xiaomi Mi Watch smart watch to the native Xiaomi Android device at all, so if you manage to do this, let me know.

If you start connecting Xiaomi Mi Watch smart watches through an application scanned by a QR code, then you will be left with hieroglyphs that are simply impossible to remove. Therefore, it is better to follow the instructions to save your nerves and time.

How to connect Xiaomi Mi Watch to iPhone

Quite a difficult task, to be honest. To do this, you will have to spend quite a lot of nerves and ingenuity, but the end result is worth it to suffer from this rather abstruse problem of connecting an iPhone to Xiaomi Mi Watch Smart Watch.

Important! Before you can start connecting your Xiaomi Mi Watch to your iPhone, you need to download the WearOS app from Google (you can download it from the App Store at this link). Only after that you can proceed to setting the clock itself.

To connect Xiaomi Mi Watch to iPhone you need:

Take the watch in hand and hold the power wheel.

Next, you will pop up a window with a bunch of hieroglyphs. Just press the blue buttons to move on. In essence, this is a privacy policy, but if you do not click Confirm, you will not be redirected to the next item.

Next, a QR code should appear on the watch screen. You can not scan it, because it is of little use.

On iPhone, open the WearOS app you downloaded earlier.

Swipe to the right and select Connect new watch on the tab.

iPhone will start searching for Smart Watch. It took us a few seconds, but if your Xiaomi Mi Watch does not detect you, try turning off Bluetooth, then turning it back on and trying again.

The name of your Mi Watch should appear on the screen

We poke at him, if found. If not, repeat the search.

We confirm the request to create a pair with Mi Watch.

Once again we confirm our action when the code appears on the screen of the iPhone and Mi Watch.

Now you should be prompted for a password to connect to Wi-Fi. We enter it, we connect.

If everything is done correctly, white hieroglyphs Loading should be lit on the watch screen, and the iPhone should display the title Almost done and download the watch.

It took us no more than two minutes to download the Smart watch, then the All is ready window appeared, and a gesture with a hand appeared on the watch, which, in theory, should give you a short instruction on how to use the watch.

You can not tap on the clock, nothing much will happen. Just click on the wheel to return to the main screen.

In fact, that’s all. Now the watch loads the dials, works, connects to the iPhone and can be used. But, if you want to enable English on Xiaomi Mi Watch, you need a little more time and a few steps.

How to connect Xiaomi Mi Watch to iPhone

We talk about how to quickly and easily connect the Xiaomi Mi Watch Smart Watch to the iPhone and partially translate the Chinese language of their interface into English.

If you are thinking about buying a new Xiaomi Mi Watch smart watch or have already become the owner of these Chinese beauties, which everyone was talking about the Apple Watch killers, you will certainly be interested in how to connect a smart watch to your smartphone.

How to enable English on Xiaomi Mi Watch

That’s right, the standard Xiaomi Mi Watch Smart Watch comes from the factory in Chinese, which is almost impossible to change. But, what if you bypass the system a little?

To enable English on Xiaomi Mi Watch you need to do the following:

Open the Settings app on your iPhone

Scroll down and open the General tab

Next, you need to change the iPhone Language to English. To do this, you just need to select iPhone Language and select English from the menu.

Back to our WearOS app

The watch should disconnect from the iPhone, this is normal, it just needs time to understand what is happening to it and why the device that was just Russian/Ukrainian suddenly became English.

After a few seconds, you will see the inscription Connected on top of the clock connected.

Now all controls in the WearOS app are in English.

The clock should also switch to English.

Important! Your Xiaomi Mi Watch will not become fully English even after this switch. No matter how much we tried to achieve a net effect, it didn’t work out for us, because that’s where it is. then hieroglyphs skipped in the clock. But now Xiaomi Mi Watch can be used, and when the dials are loaded, you can modify themes, customize them for yourself.

Basically, this is all you can do with your Xiaomi Mi Watch smartwatch until the global version is released. Also, do not forget that you can always contact a specialized iLab service center for help.

Purchase history

Before I talk about the functions of the bracelets and show how it works, I want to tell you how I bought it.

As usual, I’m not without adventures. I received a letter in the mail that the Citrus store (I bought an iPad there at one time) makes a discount of 200 UAH for the purchase of goods until the 13th.

Since the bracelet in Ukraine costs 500 UAH in Citrus, I decided that it would be a great purchase.

My wife and I went to the store and they told us that the discount on this product is not valid. Of course, I was upset, but decided not to despair. We have 3 such stores in Dnepropetrovsk at once, and I decided to go to others to ask if this is so.

Arriving at the second store, we were told that there is a second version of this bracelet and it costs 50 UAH more. In principle, the difference is small and it is on the second version that the discount applies. Not here it was, such a bracelet was not available.

As a result, we went to the third store, and bought it there, and if it were not for my desire and the desire of the saleswoman in the first store to notify that there was a discount on another bracelet, the Citrus company would have lost its profit, and I would have lost my birthday present (yeah Decided to give myself a gift.

Well, firstly, I really like different gadgets. And I like new things. Therefore, when I saw such a bracelet from a friend, he interested me very much. A friend had a Xiaomi Mi Band bracelet. And I decided to buy just such.

I also bought a bracelet to track my activity throughout the day and try the famous alarm clock, because this bracelet wakes a person when he sleeps at a certain time, which the person himself sets.

I’ll tell you about the functions of the bracelet below, and also tell you how the Xiaomi Mi Band fitness bracelet works.

Functions and principle of operation of Xiaomi Mi Band

In general, I came home and unpacked the bracelet. The box under it is compact and small.

After I unpacked it, I installed the chip itself into the strap and began to deal with it.

In order for it to work, you need an application called MiFit. The first time you enter it, you will need to register and enter your phone number, which will receive a message.

After that, the application will open and you will need to establish a connection with the bracelet and set the settings: a) on which hand you will wear the bracelet, b) the number of steps that you set for yourself per day.

Also in the settings you can set the bracelet to vibrate when you receive a call. Very useful feature.

In addition, there are other menus. For example, you can set an alarm for a specific time and split it into weekdays and weekends. It also has a smart alarm feature. You set the time and he will catch you half an hour before that when you can wake up.

I have not tested this function yet, but one of these days I want to do.

It is very convenient that there are complete sleep statistics: when they went to bed, when they got up, how long deep sleep lasted, how long it was shallow. Everything is clear in the application.

About physical activity. The application shows how many steps were taken, kilometers, how many calories burned. Very comfortably! When you have gone a little or completely completed the number of steps for the day, the bracelet itself vibrates and lets you know about it.

In general, there is nothing complicated in the bracelet, it is synchronized via Bluetooth with the phone, charging lasts every 30 days. I will say that so far I really like its functions and even a beginner can figure it out.

About the price. I bought it in Citrus in Ukraine at a discount, but who wants to buy it, then in the same Allo. for example, it costs less (the first version of the bracelet). I didn’t look in Russia, I know that you can also order directly on Aliexpress. The price will be quite reasonable.

I myself almost bought on Aliexpress when it was Black Friday. It then cost something in the region of 13,001,700 rubles, it seems.

Here are the guys I now have a gadget. Who loves such things and wants to monitor their physical condition I recommend. Given the price of this bracelet and the function, it will fulfill your requests quite well.

Of course, in the same Citrus, I saw generally cool bracelets for 4-5000 UAH, but it seems to me just for athletes and people who are ready to spend decent money on gadgets and monitoring their physical health.

Would you buy something like this yourself? Share in the Комментарии и мнения владельцев.

That’s all guys, subscribe to blog updates, share a link to the article in social networks.

How to create your own watch face for Xiaomi Mi Band 6

3 ways to create your own unique watch face for Xiaomi Mi Band 6.

The screen has an excellent brightness of 450 nits, which makes the screen readable even in the brightest sun.

One of the main advantages of a large screen and high resolution is (you won’t believe it!) that much more information fits on it. And before one screen. one option. For example, Mi Band 4 and 5 have this, while Mi Band 6 has up to 3 icons on one screen.

This is especially useful when reading notifications. Notification text takes up the entire screen. When receiving notifications from messengers, the bracelet vibrates briefly. Subsequently, notifications can be viewed in the section of the same name. To be honest, I didn’t count, but around a dozen notifications seem to accumulate, and then they are gradually replaced by new ones.

The total amount of text that fits on the screen.

But there is also a slight downside. Despite the big “chin”, there is no “Home / Back” button, as on Mi Band 4. Well, the bracelet sometimes perceives swipes as taps, so there are ridiculous situations when you get stuck between screens. opened the stopwatch, closed the stopwatch, opened, closed. This mainly happens in training, especially often in the pool, when the hands are wet. However, after a week you get used to it and adjust, so the number of false touches is significantly reduced.

Battery Life

Speaking about battery life, you should pay attention to one important thing. What version of the bracelet do you have: with or without NFC?

Officially, in Russia there is no version of the bracelet with NFC, and if you buy one, then NFC will not work. However, the NFC version of the wristband has a 125 mAh battery, while the non-NFC version has a 250 mAh battery.

The fourth generation of Suzuki Jimny, unlike the third, did not receive more smooth body lines, the car became

One of the most technically advanced Onyx Boox models of 2021: a high-resolution touch screen, Android 10, a powerful processor, 3 GB of RAM. everything you need for comfortable work

With each new version of the Mi Band bracelet, it evolves, becoming better, more interesting and still captivating customers.

Xiaomi among the main selling elements of the new Mi Band 6 includes the following:

  • Large AMOLED screen with 450 nits brightness and 326 ppi clarity;
  • Blood oxygen monitoring sensor;
  • Magnetic charging that allows you to charge the bracelet without taking it out of the strap;
  • Up to 14 days of work from one charge;
  • Over 30 exercise modes and automatic detection of six workout types.

Equipment

The bracelet comes in a classic black box. Inside:

First use and application

The bracelet by default lies in the box, turned on, waiting for pairing. In general, this, by the way, is a feature of Mi Band bracelets. They cannot be turned off. In the settings there is an option to restart, but not shutdown. Why is this done? Apparently, if it were otherwise, then we would have to complicate the design, inventing a variant of how to turn on.

The bracelet needs the Mi Fit app to work. By the way, unlike some other Xiaomi gadgets, which sometimes “blunt” when connected to their applications, there are no such problems with Mi Band. If you did not have the Mi Fit app before, you will have to create an account. Fortunately, now it is not necessary to enter all the data, since you can choose the authentication option through an account

Nothing has changed in the app. The main screen displays the latest data. Nothing new. Maybe I didn’t pay attention earlier, but the item “Check balance” was added (this is provided that you have a new smart scale from Xiaomi). And the “Smart Analysis” item appeared, which should give advice on improving the quality of sleep.

Despite the fact that the large screen makes it easier to manage the bracelet, it is still better to use the application for basic settings.

  • Customize the vibration level and vibration options for calls, SMS, notifications, alarms, etc.;
  • Select the language of the bracelet, the function “Raise your hand to make the screen automatically light up”;
  • An important thing: change the order of the menu on the bracelet (for example, I made it so that the workouts were immediately on top, and inside the workouts swimming in the pool and jumping rope were the most used ones);
  • Nice theme: on the smartphone there is an option to find the bracelet, and on the bracelet. to find the phone. The latter works well, as the phone starts to play a melody loudly. But looking for a bracelet from a smartphone is an empty undertaking, only if it does not lie somewhere on a hard surface that allows you to hear the vibration.

Perhaps, in the end, a few impressions:

  • There is still a restriction that one account can only have one fitness bracelet. On the one hand, it is logical that two bracelets are not needed. On the other hand, due to the lack of NFC, I still prefer Mi Band 4 in everyday life. While Mi Band 6 is much more convenient in the gym (more precisely, it counts pools, etc.).
  • The application logic is a little strange. Some things can only be done in the application, and some can only be done on the bracelet. For example, the menu order is only in the application, and the choice of screen brightness and backlight duration is only on the bracelet. Although it would be more logical if the application could do everything.

Appearance and how not to spoil the bracelet case

Visually, the bracelet has not changed much. It has become a few millimeters larger, but you will only notice this in direct comparison. Slightly changed the position of the sensors.

Mi Band 6, like the previous models of the series, is made of high-quality plastic, which remains like new even after active wear. The photo below shows Mi Band 4 NFC and Mi Band 5, which have been actively used every day since the release, having been in the cold, and hiking, etc. during this time. The body looks perfect. But the Mi Band 6 looks like it was treated with sandpaper. Xiaomi offered to change the bracelet, but I refused, deciding that this way the story would be clearer.

On weekends we went to nature and used mosquito repellent. I took off the bracelet, puffed it up carefully, and then put it back on. It was a mistake. The repellent corroded the plastic.

If I applied the product over the bracelet, then most likely there would be no problem. That’s exactly what my girlfriend did. There is glass on top of the bracelet, and the strap protects the sides.

By the way, this is not about any specific tool, but about the entire category of anti-mosquito sprayers. I found on the Internet stories of people who used other brands and gadgets. Any plastic is corroded. even a fitness bracelet, even a smartphone. And someone damaged the lens for the SLR.

I am glad that at least the accuracy of the sensors has not changed. Works like before.

Most repellents contain the substance diethyltoluamide (DEET). It perfectly repels mosquitoes and ticks, and also has low toxicity. But at the same time it perfectly dissolves plastic and synthetic fabrics. Accordingly, the conclusion is simple. Look at the composition of the repellent. In the picture below, the concentration of diethyltoluamide is 50%. But you should immediately warn that you should not choose repellents with a DEET concentration below 30%, since such products simply cease to repel mosquitoes and ticks.

I hope this comment is helpful.

Screen, wallpaper and controls

The screen, of course, is wow and ah! And in general, perhaps, the main motivation to upgrade. To be honest, the live screen initially caused me a slight feeling of disappointment. Quite a significant “chin” is to blame, which simultaneously deprives the front panel of the bracelet of symmetry. In all promo images, Xiaomi is absolutely honest and does not mask the “chin”. However, in the pictures it is not so conspicuous. However, this is noticeable only if you choose a full-size color wallpaper. If you choose a combination of black background and numbers, then everything is perfect.

The AMOLED screen has excellent resolution and a high dot density of 326 ppi. So, in terms of displaying pictures, you can put any photo on it. Will look great!

The Mi Fit app has many ready-made watch faces for the bracelet, but you can also download separate apps specializing in wallpapers from the app stores.

By the way, you can also make personalized wallpapers. The application has 5 template options. Essentially, the user can only select their own background image. But in general, it’s also good. By the way, in the memory of the bracelet there can be up to 5 wallpapers. We have also published a material on how to create unique wallpapers to your taste.

The German Leica introduced its debut smartphone Leitz Phone 1 with proprietary 1″ Summicron optics. Let this be an assumption, but the number “1” in the name

I have a version of the bracelet without NFC, and the box says 250 mAh.

There is no automatic screen brightness here, so the user has 5 values to choose from. With a bright full-color screen, synchronization with the phone, using the fitness functions and the default backlight duration, my bracelet lasted exactly 8 days. At midnight from Wednesday to Thursday, I charged it to 100%, and on the next Thursday morning I had 12%, that is, I would have been discharged by night. Quite a worthy score.

Xiaomi is in partnership with Mastercard, so, probably, a version with NFC will appear in Russia soon, with which you can pay. Will it be possible to flash Chinese bracelets to pay in Russia? Nobody knows. Accordingly, in fact, this is the only point why, perhaps, you should not rush to buy. On the other hand, NFC has a smaller battery. However, this should not be a tragedy if you put wallpaper with a black fill on the bracelet. So, my Mi Band 4 NFC works fine for 10 days on a single charge.

About the oxygen sensor

The main fitness change from the Mi Band 5 is the blood oxygen level sensor. With COVID-19, it has become especially relevant, since one of the symptoms of the disease is a decrease in the amount of oxygen in the blood. Of course, this is not a medical device. However, at the last appointment with the doctor, he showed a value similar to the readings of the device that was attached to my finger.

With COVID-19, the level of oxygen in the blood drops significantly, so the accuracy of the Mi Band 6 may be enough.

About swimming

The bracelet counts swimming pools well and accurately. Except when I swam on my back without using my hands. Then the bracelet believed that I swam not 25 meters, but 50. The Mi Watch Lite did not make such a mistake. But overall I am very pleased. You can swim, and the bracelet counts the distance and shows the time. And even tries to give the SWOLF index by counting the strokes. Accordingly, I have the tools to progress and swim more efficiently.

jump rope

Jumps are counting, but I have a feeling that I’m a little lying in a big way after the time has passed. For example, I counted 1000 jumps, and the bracelet. 1100. However, it is likely that I’m just losing count. In any case, the thing is extremely useful. For once, I started listening to audiobooks and podcasts rather than counting. Perhaps it would also be cool if the bracelet itself paused the execution of the action when it realized that you were jumping more. And I would also like the option that the bracelet vibrates when the specified number of jumps is reached.

Sleep bracelet counts, as in Mi Band 5. deep, fast and REM. Added the option to assess the quality of breathing in a dream. That is, the bracelet will try to measure the level of oxygen in the blood several times a night and give an estimate in points. Accordingly, if you breathe badly in a dream, then this is bad. And if it’s good, then it’s good. Probably the idea that with low values for a long time it is worth visiting a doctor.

Workout

The bracelet supports many types of workouts. But here it is worth understanding that we are talking about measuring the pulse, and sometimes the distance. Some species have specific indicators. For example, a rowing machine has a certain “hook” and a rowing frequency, while when working with ropes for crossfit, only the pulse and time are some indicator of the intensity of the load (like in boxing and dancing), which I have so far did not understand the end. This number of different types of training is great for keeping statistics. At the same time, conditional cricket or bowling (there are some) is also great for archery. On a smartphone in the application, you can always see what indicators you had by sorting by type of training. At the same time, Xiaomi can be blamed here, since the application allows you to watch each individual workout, but it does not provide analytics. It would be cool if they drew some kind of graphics. For example, when I first started swimming, I swam half a kilometer in 20 minutes, now I quite cheerfully swim 20 pools in 12.5 minutes. And it would be great if you could observe some dynamics in a visual form.

Conclusion: Should You Buy Mi Band 6?

If this is your first bracelet, then, of course, it is worth it. The thing is cool and really helps with sports. Yes, and it motivates quite well, so, I got carried away with the performance of the PAI index by 100%. The matter, frankly, is not easy, since it is required to accelerate the pulse to control values, which in my case are quite high. For example, after half an hour of playing volleyball, a girl’s PAI increased by 30 points, and I got only 2 points.

If you are the owner of Mi Band 4, then it might be worth it. In the new bracelet, the screen is larger, and the sensors can do the most, and most importantly, they are more accurate. So, in my Mi Band 4 NFC, I can’t clearly swim in the pool. The bracelet lies, and sometimes for some reason simply refuses to count the floated.

Mi Band 5 owners need not worry. Although if you want a big screen and an oxygen sensor, then you can treat yourself.

Considering the rumors about cooperation with Mastercard and the possibility of launching an NFC version of the bracelet, it may be worth delaying the purchase. Although here you should evaluate your strengths. Now the bracelet costs 3,990 rubles. The version with NFC (similar to the Mi Band 4/4 TAS) will cost 1,000 rubles more, that is, 5,000 rubles. And 5 thousand rubles is already a psychologically unpleasant amount.

The main competitor is the HUAWEI Band 6 at a similar price, which seems to be able to do everything exactly the same as the Mi Band 6, but the screen is 1.47 inches, that is, 0.07 inches smaller, but a little wider. But there are physical buttons, but the battery is 180 mAh. So here, in general, a matter of taste. Download the application from Huawei, from Xiaomi. Look at the interfaces, compare the appearance of the bracelets live and take which one you like best.

Appearance and ergonomics

Xiaomi Mi Band 6 has retained the same design and materials. The bracelet is still made of thermoplastic polyurethane with a convenient latch, and the case has retained its size. Glass over the display. Gorila Glass 3 with an oleophobic coating, so it will be difficult to accidentally scratch the screen.

When you turn on the display, the increased diagonal immediately catches your eye. now it is 1.56 ”(as much as 50% more than Mi Band 5), and the image occupies almost the entire area with the exception of a few millimeters along the edge. It looks much more interesting, and most importantly, it allows you to place more information and make it more readable.

The bracelet sits on the hand just as well as the previous versions. the plastic of the strap is hypoallergenic, almost not subject to wear and practically does not feel on the wrist with prolonged wear. Strap length can vary between 155-219mm.

The capsule is easily pulled out of the bracelet. Keep in mind that the case of the Mi Band 6 is slightly larger than the previous model, so it will not fit into the old strap, although visually they seem identical.

Mi Band 6, by the way, received good water protection according to the ISO 22810:2010 standard, so you can not only wash in the shower with it, but also dive under water to a depth of 50 meters. True, only fresh water bodies are meant. salt water will quickly render contacts and sensors unusable.

If we look at the bottom surface of the capsule, we can see that the position and composition of the sensors have changed. Mi Band 6 has an updated pulse oximeter and added two additional LEDs (red and infrared) to measure the level of oxygen in the blood.

But the charger has not changed. it is attached to the contacts of the capsule with a magnet and connected to the USB connector.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 6 Global fitness bracelet review

In the spring, Xiaomi released a new model of their fitness bracelet. Mi Band 6. Early versions have already become popular due to their affordability and good feature set. Mi Band 6 has not just added new features. He received a new large 1.56-inch AMOLED display, updated training modes and a blood oxygen sensor. The NFC version only works in China so far, although a global version of the NFC bracelet has also been discussed. At the same time, Mi Band 6 is a little more expensive than its predecessors, but remains within the budget fitness bracelet.

Screen, interfaces and control

The display has become one of the most significant changes. He added not only in diagonal, but also in pixel density: 326 ppi versus 287 ppi on the Mi Band 5. In addition, the brightness has also grown a little. 450 nits are declared, which is approximately true. There is no auto brightness; manual setting only. In the bright sun, there will be no problems with the readability of the display, although more brightness would also not hurt.

The screen size also had a positive effect on the interface: the elements have generally become larger, which means they are better visible and easier to manage. Of course, in Mi Band 6, the touch control button had to be abandoned, now all navigation is done with swipes. A light touch is enough to turn on the display, swipe sideways to switch between the main screen, music and weather, swipe up or down for menus and settings.

The readability of the text is excellent, SMS notifications are visible well (very convenient to watch SMS for 2-factor authentication. no need to look for the smartphone itself).

Among the functions there is also a “flashlight”. a white screen at maximum brightness, which, in principle, should help in complete darkness. All main features are available in a list after swiping down.

The main screen can be interactive (for example, the default bracelet screen), with buttons for quick access to the main monitoring screens. PAI, activity status, sleep, etc., or static, just displaying the main parameters. Skins can be downloaded from the Mi Fit app. there are quite a few variations available. True, a maximum of three skins can be stored in the local memory of the bracelet.

In practice, the main default skin is one of the most convenient. it displays progress on the main indicators in the form of stripes filled with color, and by touching you can go to the full statistics on them (this is visual and convenient). But in custom templates, it is possible to set your own image on the cover, upload it from your smartphone.

The Mi Band 6 is controlled, of course, by the same Mi Band application from Xiaomi. Each function and all work scenarios are configured in it in detail: the number and frequency of measurements, vibration (and with the ability to manually set the pattern). It is easy to understand it, everything is intuitive and clear.

Monitoring of heart rate and stress level can be adjusted according to the required frequency of measurements, which will affect the accuracy of statistics. In addition, the bracelet can analyze sleep and there is even a function for monitoring the quality of breathing during sleep, although it is still in beta test mode.

In Mi Fit, you can view the data collected by the bracelet in detail. They are visualized on charts, it is convenient to interpret them and adjust your mode. The level of stress is determined quite plausibly. it is minimal during sleep and increases during work and training. Having set your parameters, you can also calculate tasks for yourself according to the level of activity, set goals and achieve them. the bracelet will signal this.

Very detailed statistics are available for sleep. the bracelet recognizes the phases of sleep, the moments of awakening and does this (according to subjective sensations) very accurately. The heart rate sensor works great, it has clearly improved its accuracy compared to previous models.

Statistics are also available for different periods of time. you can see how you slept on average last month, and what changes have occurred at the moment.

autonomy

When discharging, Mi Band 6 gives a signal by vibration and messages on the display. This happens at a charge level of 5-10%. The battery capacity of the model is 250 mAh, and charging from the USB port of the PC takes about 2 hours (up to 50% in 30 minutes). At the same time, the current progress is displayed on the screen.

The autonomy of the bracelet mainly depends on the frequency of measurements of the sensors. the pulse, for example, can be measured every minute. If you turn on the maximum frequency plus add round-the-clock stress monitoring, automatic detection of training and analysis of the quality of sleep and breathing, then the bracelet will last about 6-7 days. Which is generally quite normal for a fitness bracelet, given the increased functionality and large display.

If most of the functions are turned off or the minimum frequency of measurements is set, then the Mi Band 6 will be able to last up to 10-12 days.

Operation and training

One of the innovations of Xiaomi Mi Band 6 is an improved workout recognition system, many new types have been added. The essence of the function is that the bracelet itself recognizes the type of training and begins to measure the time, pace, pulse or number of repetitions. The history of training is saved, but the Mi Fit application does not conduct analytics on them. The accuracy of the bracelet here is not always sufficient, but it is clearly better than that of the early Mi Band. The repetition counters turned out to be especially convenient in practice. you can listen to music during a workout without getting hung up on constant counting. A pleasant difference from the Mi Band 5 was the availability of a training log on the bracelet itself.

The wearing comfort of the Mi Band 6 is unchanged. True, the bracelet is still not very suitable for a thin wrist: due to the straight shape and the decent length of the capsule, it will not make good contact with the skin. In this sense, it is strange why Xiaomi does not make the shape more ergonomic.

Other features of the bracelet include:

  • Measuring the level of oxygen in the blood. it is clear that the accuracy, most likely, leaves much to be desired in the medical sense, but it works correctly at first glance, determining 98-99%.
  • Breathing exercises. The bracelet helps you do a little breathing exercise to reduce stress levels.
  • Smartphone notifications. All notifications are configured. from applications to SMS, which is very convenient.
  • Music management. Also a must-have function for a fitness bracelet, it also works with video.
  • Timer and stopwatch. The design of the timer has changed slightly, now you need to scroll it, which is generally more convenient.
  • Camera control. Mi Band 6 acts as a remote shutter button. for this you need to give the application permission to control the camera.
  • Possibility to reject a call with sending an SMS template. A useful feature that the Mi Band did not have before.
  • Alarms. Now they can be created directly on the bracelet, which is good news (up to 3 pieces at the same time).

In general, the main analysis tool for the bracelet is the calculation of the PAI physical activity index. It is he who acts as the main parameter, more complex than a simple counter of steps or calories.

There is also a separate training mode with track building, which are launched from the application. For this, the GPS transmitter of the connected smartphone is used. It works quite accurately, the movement is fixed correctly. When the workout is turned on, the bracelet display remains active and the timer with pause and stop buttons is turned on.

Equipment

The Mi Band 6 comes in Xiaomi branded bright packaging. It is very compact. Inside fits the bracelet itself with a strap, a manual book and a magnetic charging cable with a USB connector.

There are also many color options for bracelet straps on sale, which are quite inexpensive. so the accessory can be adjusted to individual style.

Mi Band 5 setup

You can customize your bracelet directly from the device or through the application on your smartphone. Consider both options.

The official Russian instruction in pdf can be downloaded from this link (paper translation).

Setting on the bracelet

Let’s talk about the most significant settings. In the future, we advise you to study the menu yourself, there are a lot of customization options.

You should start by setting up the dial. Hold your finger on the active display (numbers), then you will see a list of watch faces loaded into the tracker. You can change them by swiping up or down.

Next, click the gear below. In the widget editing mode, click on them to change the type. To complete editing, use the touch button.

Let’s move on to the settings. They are called by swiping on the active dial from the bottom up (the beginning of the list) or from the top down (the end of the list).

Status, PAI, Heart Rate, Notifications, Stress Level, Breathing, Cycles, Events, Weather, Workout, Advanced.

Here we can set the time when notifications will be silenced. There is an automatic mode, for a certain amount of time and at the very bottom there is a user setting. There you can set a specific time (for example, night) when this mode will be activated automatically.

By default, the brightness is set to medium, but many people find it lacking. Be sure to try to adjust the level that is comfortable for you.

If you notice accidental clicks while wearing the bracelet, you can turn on the lock screen. You will need to swipe to access the controls.

The display time can be extended up to 10 seconds, which is convenient when reading activity indicators.

In the August update 1.0.1.84, the automatic activity detection feature was added. If you make active movements within 2-5 minutes and the bracelet detects an increase in heart rate, then you are invited to choose one of the sports for more accurate calculations. This function should be renamed to automatic activity detection.

Setting via Mi Fit

In the Mi Fit program, there are three tabs at the bottom:

  • Workout. display of important parameters such as the number of steps, activity scores (PAI), stress levels and women’s cycles. By clicking on each parameter, you can see detailed statistics;
  • Friends. the ability to add friends, compete in the results achieved;
  • Profile. Manage connected devices and basic settings.

In the profile section, select the connected bracelet and get into a long settings menu. Consider the most necessary.

To set up notifications from applications and messengers, go to the “Notifications” item.

After choosing, do not forget to click “Save”. If you have only two Chinese and English in the list, then you have purchased the China (CN) version. How to add Russian language is written here.

You can set the response speed and schedule so that at night the bracelet on your arm does not interfere with sleep.

Initially, you need to enable heart rate tracking in the “Monitoring method” item. There we select the time for tracking and the frequency of measurements. It is possible to activate stress tracking.

Now we exit the bracelet settings and go to the “Profile” tab in Mi Fit. Open “Smart Analysis” and activate all options.

These are the basic settings that should be done before use. However, there are still many interesting features and tracker optimization possibilities.

To get started, your phone (Android or iPhone) must meet the technical requirements:

Before connecting the bracelet, check its performance by pressing the touch button on the front side. The screen should display a language selection or sync request.

If the tracker does not respond to pressing, connect it to the charger. A full charge takes 1.5 hours. According to the manufacturer’s recommendation for synchronization, the percentage of charge should be at least 50%.

  • The bracelet is unable to work without synchronization, so let’s move on to the phone. It must have Bluetooth enabled. Open “Settings”. “Bluetooth” and activate the switch.

Mi Fit version can be any (except for very old ones), but we recommend downloading the newest one from Google Play or the App Store, this will help to avoid many problems.

Xiaomi Mi Band 5. зачем теперь Apple Watch?

  • Select “Create an account”;
  • Enter the country of residence, mail, password, confirmation code, accept the agreement and click “Register”;
  • Fill out your profile and click “Done”.

As the device connects, the system will request access to bluetooth, geolocation and other parameters. give access everywhere. Relevant for both iPhone and Android.

  • We will be prompted to add a new device (otherwise click on the plus icon in the upper right corner of Mi fit). We select “Bracelet” and bring the fitness tracker to the phone.

If you have never charged your tracker before, then the update process may fail. Don’t worry, just charge the bracelet and try again. In this case, the charge was 5%.

Congratulations! The connection is completed and you can start setting up!

Possible mistakes

In the process of connecting the bracelet to a smartphone, errors may occur. Consider the main ones.

  • Pairing error. First, try to charge the bracelet, then reboot it through the settings and reboot the phone. This usually helps in most cases. As a last resort, you can try to change the version of Mi fit.
  • Mi Fit update failed (Connect to Mi Fit to update again). The bottom line is that the bracelet, when first connected, tries to immediately update to the current firmware version and if the charge is less than 10%, then a similar error will appear and the “repeat” button will not help. The solution is simple. just charge your device.
  • The phone does not see the tracker. Restart both gadgets, check if Bluetooth is enabled and what version is on your phone (should be at least 5.0).
  • Error “Perform a reset of the bracelet.” In the bracelet menu in the “Advanced” section, find the reset item and perform it. If the error persists, delete the Mi Fit cache or reinstall the program. Otherwise, contact the seller, it may be a marriage or a fake.

Reanimate Mi Band

The topic of defects in electronic devices for many experienced users (buyers) is as important as features and price. Sometimes a marriage can be fixed at home, and the price advantage forces you to take risks, and sometimes not. Most often, devices of not very well-known manufacturers suffer from a large number of marriages, just starting their struggle for buyers’ wallets. This includes the majority of Chinese brands that are sold on Internet sites under strange names for the Russian consumer and do not have a Russian certificate of conformity. However, there are also examples when marriage becomes a mass phenomenon with well-known brands. Most often this happens when the manufacturer is not doing well with the sales of his devices (for various reasons) and he starts saving both on components and on testing new models (hello, one well-known Japanese company).

There is another situation. when only one, less often several device models differ in an increased number of defects. In this case, we can talk about a miscalculation in the design. A vivid example of this is hot news about a Korean manufacturer, which at one time did not leave the news pages.

Potential buyers pay close attention to such information and, based on this, make a choice in favor or against the purchase.

In this case, the issue of the availability of a guarantee is especially acute, and this item should not be neglected.

But all this is true when choosing relatively expensive devices, such as phones, tablets or accessories, the purchase of which entails significant expenses, which cannot be ignored. If we are talking about electronics, which is perceived by many as an additional, optional and at the same time inexpensive accessory, then the risk of getting a defective device does not have such a strong influence on the purchase decision. An additional factor in favor of a positive decision is the purchase price through gray channels, which for gadgets in this group often turns out to be twice as low as compared to official sales channels.

The principle is already working here: even if you are not lucky, it’s not a pity. The buyer is willing to part with a small amount of money in exchange for significant risk-based savings.

In this case, I mean the Mi Band series of smart bracelets from Xiaomi, in which marriage reports have been appearing on the network since the release of the first generation and continue to appear to this day. over, judging by the specialized forums, one might get the impression that this phenomenon is not so rare, and even frequent. But not everything is so bad, let’s not forget about the volume of devices sold and about such a feature of our psyche, thanks to which, if everything is fine with you, then you will not write about it on the forums. over, the main, and perhaps the only claim to Xiaomi bracelets is that at one fine moment the gadget simply stops charging and does not show signs of life. It is difficult to say what this is connected with, since there were no Комментарии и мнения владельцев from Xiaomi, and employees of third-party service centers did not conduct research on this topic, since few people thought of carrying this non-separable capsule for repair.

And the cost of the time spent by the master, most likely, would be higher than the price of a new gadget. That is why for most the most obvious solution to the problem was to buy a new device, and again from Xiaomi. In this case, the effect of a low price worked, which leveled the loss of brand loyalty.

But, as they say, the world is not without kind people, and among the owners of such gadgets there are a large number of inquisitive lovers of experiments. It was such enthusiasts who found ways to restore the functionality of seemingly irretrievably dead gadgets. Let’s look at these methods and try to understand their effectiveness. Not without pride I can say that one of these methods was invented by the author of these lines, and judging by the feedback from people on the forums, it really works.

But I won’t say which of the following methods it is. Let it be a secret.

Okay, aside from the lyrics, let’s move on to the practical part of today’s story.

Before considering resuscitation methods, for lack of reliable data on the causes of the malfunction, we will take it as an axiom that the main reason is a deep discharge of the battery, in which the controller puts the battery into storage mode to prevent the destruction of lithium. Due to its small size and capacity, such a battery may not have a reserve volume, which should subsequently allow the controller to “start” the device as soon as an external power source is connected. Therefore, the controller reserves the last crumbs of charge available in the main battery capacity in order to save this very battery, and they are no longer enough to start. At the very least, the methods that bring the device to life fit into this theory. Now about the methods of restoring functionality themselves, which will be listed in descending order of the risk of permanently killing the device.

Method one, the most controversial and dangerous. electric shock

The essence of this method is to completely reset the bracelet and reset the statistics on the controller.

To do this, it is proposed to use the most natural stun gun, albeit in miniature. As an execution tool, it is proposed to use a piezo element extracted from a conventional lighter. I think that many in childhood had fun by trying on each other and on themselves such an impromptu stun gun.

For the method to work, you just need to close the contacts of the bracelet with the contacts of the piezo element and shock the bracelet with current. After that, it is recommended to connect the bracelet to the charger and check its performance. In theory, the bracelet should work. start charging and then turn on.

It’s up to you to try or not, but personally I would not recommend this method, since the success rate here is 50 to 50. You are either lucky and the bracelet will work, or you will not be lucky and you will completely burn all the electronics inside the capsule. Reviews on the network confirm the effectiveness of this revival option. someone has earned it, someone has not. over, the percentage of the latter is higher.

The next method is temperature

If you look at the characteristics and operating parameters of lithium, it turns out that when the temperature of such a battery drops to negative values, it ceases to perform its function, since the chemical processes inside the battery practically stop and energy ceases to be generated. The way out is to force the battery to completely lose charge so that the charge data is reset in the controller. After that, the bracelet should start life “from scratch”, as if it had just been made or as if a new battery was connected to it.

To do this, it is recommended to put the bracelet in the freezer (the colder the better) and leave it there for several hours, and preferably at night, so that it is thoroughly frozen and completely loses its charge.

After that, the bracelet must be taken out and left to heat up at room temperature for half an hour or an hour, in no case heating it with a hairdryer or on a battery. Rapid heating after freezing can lead to damage in the structure of electronic components, this should be known to everyone from a school physics course. After the bracelet has warmed up, we try to turn it on. This method has much more positive reviews on the network. Many who used this option wrote that after freezing, the bracelet began to charge and then turned on. I myself used this method after I received a first generation bracelet from AliExpress, which showed no signs of life. After freezing, the bracelet came to life.

The third way is scientific

It relates more to chemistry and physics than to electromechanics, and consists in speeding up a chemical reaction by raising the temperature. However, in this case, simply increasing the temperature is not enough. It should be combined with the creation of an electromagnetic field. Sounds scary. But in fact, everything is elementary. If the bracelet does not turn on after a full discharge, then to revive it, you should first leave it on charge for an hour or two, and then, removing it from the charge, quickly rub the capsule on a woolen cloth until it gets very hot and immediately connect it to the charger.

The bracelet should start accepting a charge. Apparently, during friction heating, the rate of chemical processes in the battery accelerates and additional energy is generated, which is enough for the controller to “allow” the device to start. Perhaps static electricity also plays a role, which occurs when the capsule is rubbed against a woolen cloth.

In any case, judging by the reviews on the network, the method is working and allows you to resuscitate a capsule that has gone into deep discharge.

The fourth and easiest option is waiting

This method is connected with the already familiar principle of completely discharging the battery to reset the data of the charge controller and then starting it, it will suit very patient users.

To use this method, it is necessary to leave the capsule alone for a long period of time, during which the battery must be guaranteed to use up the entire charge, thereby resetting the controller data. After that, it is recommended to simply put the capsule on charge. The waiting time in this case ranges from a couple of weeks to a month. The easiest way, which has its own positive reviews on the network. I think you can use it if the previous ones did not give a result, or if you don’t really need a bracelet at the moment and there is time to wait.

Here are some simple ways to bring Mi Band bracelets of different generations back to life, which at some point stopped showing signs of life. It is possible that none of the above methods will work, and then the choice will be small. try to repair the bracelet by disassembling it, or buy a new one. Personally, I came across both the need for repairs, which I once wrote about in the article Notes of the Master. Frankenstein, and with the need to revive the bracelets. And in all cases, the result was a working gadget.

Instead of a conclusion

In addition to cases of sudden death, Xiaomi bracelets have one bad feature. being tied to one account, in order to subsequently connect to another account, they require unlinking from the previous one. And often this becomes a real problem for a user who, during the initial setup, created an account, as they say, “from the bulldozer”, then safely forgot about it and, if he accidentally reset the settings or changed the phone, he was faced with the inability to connect a bracelet that did not untie it from the previous account.

For this case, there is also a solution. a special service application sent by the Chinese seller of the bracelet to one of its customers and part-time user of the w3bsit3-dns.com forum under the nickname rawin in response to the problem of unbinding from the account.

To untie the bracelet, you need to download the application file. After that, rename the downloaded file by deleting the numbers after the dot so that the extension has an APK ending, and install it. Then connect the bracelet to the phone using the Bluetooth system dialog. Launch the application, making sure that the connected bracelet and its mac-address are displayed in the application, tap on the line with the bracelet. Then in the window that opens, click on the bottom button, as in the screenshot.

After that, according to rawin, the bracelet will “make scary sounds (squeaks) during its operation” and will be reset to factory settings and forcibly unlinked from the previous account.

Here are some simple ways to bring the bracelet back to life. And the unbinding method can also help in the case when the bracelet does not want to connect to your account, not only because of forgetfulness, but also for no apparent reason. because in this case there is a complete reset.

The company’s developers have provided the ability to connect the tracker to Apple devices, so before synchronizing the Mi Band 3 with the iPhone, you need to download a branded application from the App Store individually for the iOS system. Next, the Bluetooth protocol will be launched on the mobile device, and you need to register in the Xiaomi system, and then proceed to pair the devices. On the design of the tracker, a key is provided, clicking on which allows you to connect. At the end of the manipulations, the bracelet software will be updated through a mobile application.

When connecting, you need to take into account the iPhone model, since the ability to pair with Xiaomi bracelets is implemented from version 4S or newer, and too old devices do not require data transfer from mobile attributes. For modification 5 and 5S, an improved connection algorithm is used, and in more current models there is a competent exchange of information. Apple suggests using iOS software from 10.3.3 and newer for better performance.

If the tracker fails to synchronize or breaks often occur, then xiaomium.ru offers:

  • Make sure that the wrist attribute is functioning correctly;
  • Check if there are any problems caused by using Mi Band 3 with a different account;
  • Keep a minimum distance between devices, as the developers recommend trying not to move the bracelet too far away from the smartphone during the pairing process.

Some users talk about difficulties in the process of synchronizing the tracker with an Apple phone, while using the BLE Scanner or Bluetooth Pair program to establish use, as they help find the device. You can synchronize using the standard functions of the phone, because you need to go to the Bluetooth menu, find the Mi Band 3 and try to pair. In case of errors or failures, it is advisable to contact the service or exchange for a new copy under the manufacturer’s warranty.

Available functions

Upon completion of connecting the tracker to the iPhone, the owner can use many options:

  • Receive mobile device alerts on the bracelet, which you can set yourself, and during an incoming call, the compact display shows the name of the caller and the ability to accept the call. All notifications come with a vibration signal;
  • Receipt on the tracker of reminders that were indicated in the calendar installed on the smartphone;
  • The availability of a smart alarm that is activated based on the user’s sleep, and integrated sensors perform heartbeat diagnostics to select the best wake-up time. Such an implementation has a positive effect on the owner’s well-being, as it is activated depending on the phase of sleep;
  • The ability to view the current weather on the tracker display, which is regularly updated to match the information of the synchronized mobile device;
  • Detection of a smartphone, activated by a separate option in the functionality of the bracelet, while it is necessary to keep the connection, and the result is manifested by the inclusion of a sound signal on the device.

Synchronization with Apple Health

The Mi Band 3 model allows you to transfer data using both Mi Fit and the Apple Health application;

  • Enter the downloaded Mi Fit program;
  • Go to the section for sending notifications;
  • Select the sub-item “Health”, while the name of the category, in the absence of Russification, may be indicated by “Health”;
  • Enable synchronous operation.

Some users additionally report that after downloading the Mi Fit proprietary solution for Xiaomi bracelets, a request for permission to access the service is displayed, while a separate window is displayed in which the owner grants permission or rejects the offer.

How to choose a smart home device?

Yandex application

The first thought is to look at them on retailer websites, but often they cannot be filtered by ecosystem, or they simply have outdated information. It is best to look directly at the manufacturers’ applications. For example, when adding a device in Yandex, you can immediately see a list of all supported devices from this manufacturer. Apple for HomeKit has a complete list on their website. Xiaomi in their application can also see the entire list for each region when adding.

In order not to make crutches with ESP32, I also recommend paying attention to Sonoff. They are also based on ESP and can be added to the Mi Home app.

Corridor

In addition to the lamp, there is also an Aqara smart door lock in the corridor. It runs on batteries and supports a bunch of ways to open it, including HomeKit. This is almost the only HomeKit-enabled lock that can be found in Russia in free sale in most stores.

Aqara N100 (Zigbee)

Bathroom

The bathroom already had a light fixture, so only a smart switch was purchased. The touch switches from Rubetek looked the most futuristic, and they also supported Alice. They also have unofficial (non-certified) HomeKit support, but it works so-so.

Rubetek RE-3317 Yandex smart socket in Yandex app

The bathroom also has an electric faucet, which I plugged in through a Yandex smart socket. Smart devices from Yandex (light bulb, IR remote control, sockets) are made on the basis of tuya, respectively, you can just buy tuya compatible devices. Interestingly enough, the sockets show the current voltage, which turned out to be as much as 240V instead of 220V.

Yandex.Station, unlike HomeKit, even supports washing machines, and more recently, irons, although the benefits of Alice in them are very doubtful.

Smart home iOS developer. Part 2

This article is a continuation of my story about smart home. There will be specific examples of my devices for HomeKit and Yandex smart home. I’ll tell you on what principles I chose and how I connected everything together.

Brief diagram of a smart home

The result was something like this. There is Homebridge on the Raspberry Pi and a plugin for it that helps to throw devices into Alice. The rest is already tied to what manufacturers of smart devices have come up with: Yandex.Station manages devices through the company’s servers, that is, with a voice command, it sends a request to the server, and it already sends a request to the device. If the device has built-in WI-FI, then it connects to the server directly. And in the case of small sensors, there is usually a special hub to which they are connected via ZigBee. HomeKit can manage devices locally, but we’ll talk about that later.

background

The first acquisition was Yandex.Station immediately after it appeared on the free market. Even then it was clear that it would become the center of a smart home. And there were no analogues of smart speakers in Russian at that time, and even now there are still few who can compare with it in terms of features. HomePod and other American speakers, of course, are better in all respects, except for one thing. the presence of the Russian language (at the moment, HomePod already supports Russian), so the original idea was to assemble a smart home completely based on Yandex.Station, since it already supported a sufficient number of third party manufacturers.

Luckily, there are some devices on the market that support both HomeKit and Alice. There are not many of them, but they were, therefore, if possible, such devices were bought so as not to fall out of the Apple ecosystem, having iPads, Macs and iPhones.

HomePod Mini

When enough devices have accumulated, it’s time to come up with scenarios. And then an unpleasant surprise awaited: automation through Yandex applications is very scarce, since Yandex does not support any sensors, and you can automate only by time or voice command. This killed the desire to continue building a smart home on Yandex and switch completely to HomeKit. Fortunately, HomeBridge was already configured for the LED strip in the kitchen, and it only remained to pull up a couple more lamps through the plug-ins. After that, I bought an additional HomePod Mini and began to buy devices only with HomeKit support.

Kitchen

I already had an LED strip that was powered by a power supply that converts 220V to 12V, and also bought several ESP32 for experimentation. It was necessary to put it all together and connect it to HomeKit, and for this I had to start HomeBridge somewhere. The choice fell on the Raspberry Pi 4 and a plugin that translated HomeKit requests to HTTP to the ESP32. She, in turn, opened the power switch based on the MOSFET transistor. And since the smart home for Alice was originally going to be, HomeBridge was additionally thrown into Yandex through the h-on plugin. I talked about the theoretical part in more detail in a previous article.

ESP32 with power key (early version without case)

As a transistor, a power key from Ampere was chosen. If you don’t really want to understand circuitry and soldering, then Amperka has a large selection of ready-made modules with strapping.

Troyka module

In addition to the LED strip in the kitchen, there is also a ceiling lamp from Philips Hue. Philips, or rather their division Signify, makes cool rgb lighting, which is popular in Russia. But for Europe, Philips also makes ceiling lights with shades of warm and cold light. And I could not pass by such a futuristic lamp:

Philips Hue Being ceiling light

Its price, of course, is also “European”, and the light turned out to be not as bright as we would like, but the external one clearly stands out against the background of Xiaomi lamps.

Smart kettles with Alice

HomeKit doesn’t have teapot support, but Alice does. True, their choice is still not as great as we would like. At the time of purchase, these were only Redmond teapots, now Polaris has also appeared.

The TV was also purchased with native support for Alice and AirPlay. However, Alice’s abilities are very limited. She can’t even turn on the TV after a few hours. Having gone through the forums after the purchase in an attempt to solve the problem and find the difference in TV models (Q70 vs Q77), it turned out that this is a limitation of cheaper TV models. The TV seems to disconnect from WI-FI after a few hours in standby mode and, accordingly, loses connection with Yandex.Station. I ended up just buying an IR remote for Alice. He has no problems with turning on, and the TV signal source can change.

IR remote

AirPlay on the TV is supported by the second version. Now it is not added to HomeKit, as was the case with the first one, so turning it on / off with your voice will not work. Can only transfer video from phone.

Philips has its own TVs with cool backlighting that changes depending on the picture on the screen. But, unfortunately, Philips TVs do not support either AirPlay or Alice. But you can make the backlight with your own hands through Philips Hue Play or Gradient Lightstrip for TVs from other manufacturers.

Philips Hue Play

However, from third-party TVs, you will not be able to receive a picture in real time, so this only works via HDMI. An HDMI Sync box is bought, into which HDMI is plugged and a cable goes from it to the TV. And accordingly, everything will work only if you watch Netflix from some Playstation 5, and not directly from TV.

Philips Hue Sync Box

I didn’t really want to buy a Sync box for 30k rubles, so I started looking for DIY solutions. And it is! Harmonize project. An HDMI splitter and a capture card are bought (for a total of 5 thousand), a python script is launched on the same Raspberry Pi and magic happens:

Thanks to Vastrik and his goof house, I learned that there are trendy startups making HomeKit devices like EVE and Fibaro. And they have smart thermostats for battery valves. The first one I bought was EVE Thermo. a great thing, it works flawlessly, but the dimensions are very impressive. EVE also has a cool HomeKit app.

Eve Thermo

For a change and because of the smaller size, a Fibaro Heat Controller was bought in the bedroom. Of the features, it has a remote temperature sensor, respectively, it measures the temperature not near the battery, but where you place the sensor. But this thermostat is constantly decalibrating and losing connection with HomeKit. It turned out to be a massive problem and it is not clear what to do about it.

Fibaro Heat Controller

In addition to Philips Hue and Eve, there is also a cool startup called Nanoleaf that makes light panels in various shapes. In the updated version, panels of different shapes can be assembled into one shape, hexagons, triangles, for example.

Nanoleaf Shapes

At the time of the assembly of the smart home, I worked at Haier and we were writing an application for a smart home, so there was an opportunity to see how a smart home works in large companies. To my surprise, the new version of the Haier smart home in Europe was built on the same ESP32, only adapted for industrial needs.

ESP32 Haier

All experiments at work were carried out with an air conditioner: it was possible to reflash its ESP32 to its own firmware and add HomeKit support there, since the firmware from foreign colleagues did not support it. And it turned out to be not so difficult:

The firmware was made on the basis of a ready-made library from Espressif, which I wrote about in a previous article. Of course, this decision will not reach production, but I can easily repeat the same with my home air conditioner from Haier. In Russia, it is somehow difficult with air conditioners that support HomeKit out of the box. There are only those who support Yandex.Station.

The HomeKit camera turned out to be a good thing. You can watch the broadcast right from the Home app on your iPhone and save your videos to iCloud. It can be configured so that the camera does not shoot if someone is at home (more on that in the next section), but at the same time the motion sensor, which is involved in automation scenarios, works.

Aqara G2H

I chose a camera from Aqara, which also acts as a hub for my motorized roller blinds. Aqara is a Xioami sub-brand for the European and American markets with a separate application, so you don’t have to worry about regions in Mi Home when buying.

There is also a smart Xiaomi Mop P vacuum cleaner. I advise you to buy vacuum cleaners with LiDaR and the ability to build a map of the premises. Of the interesting things in Xioami vacuum cleaners, you can change the voice acting to “leather bastards”.

HomeKit Features

HomeKit settings for added users

The most suitable thing in HomeKit is the ability to add people to your smart home (you can also in Mi Home). If someone comes to visit, you can give full control over all devices, or give only partial access (see screenshot). You can even customize scripts for specific people. face recognition or iPhone location.

HomeKit does not have separate hubs. To control your devices when you are not at home, you need to purchase an iPad, Apple TV or HomePod mini. You can have several at once so as not to lose Connect if the iPad sits down, for example.

Bedroom

A “tablet” from Xioami was bought for the bedroom on the ceiling without native support for HomeKit, but it turned out that there are already new models of the same lamp with support. In the hallway, I did not make such a mistake and immediately bought a new model of the lamp, and in the bedroom I had to pass it through HomeBridge.

Xiaomi Mi LED Ceiling Light (MUE4086GL/X20369)

HomeKit supports smart extension cords. And because of the again futuristic look, I bought an extension cord from Rubetek, but it, like the switch, does not work normally with HomeKit

Rubetek RE-3310

You can automate both roller blinds and sliding curtains. In the hall, the choice fell on the first option, and in the bedroom on the second. A motor from Xiaomi was bought for the bedroom with a special cornice for it.

Xiaomi Aqara Curtain Motor for Sliding Curtains

When buying smart devices from Xioami, you need to pay attention to the region for which this device is intended and buy the appropriate hub. Yandex.Station supports both the Chinese region and Russia (maybe even both at the same time, if the account has devices for both regions), but in the first case there will be calls to the Chinese server, which may affect the processing time of Alice’s commands.

Motor for roller blinds Aqara Roller Shade

Hue Bridge was also hung in this room for remote control of Hue lamps, and it does not have WI-FI (and Xiaomi does!) And it connects only via cable to the router. But the router is located under the ceiling and pulling a cable from it is not the most pleasant experience, so it was decided to buy a repeater / bridge from Asus. By the way, Hue Bridge actually has a WI-FI module, it’s just disabled, but you can enable it through hacks.

This was a list of the main devices of my smart home. There are a couple more lamps and sensors that I didn’t mention, but they are needed mainly for automation scenarios, and this. topic for a separate article.

Most likely, my example of a smart home will be outdated in a couple of years. manufacturers do not stand still. Yandex showed Yandex.Station 2 with multiroom support and built-in Zigbee. Now it will be possible to combine several stations together to listen to music and control devices without contacting the manufacturer’s servers, as was the case with Amazon Alexa. And the Russian language has already been added to the HomePod.

I also have high hopes for Matter. Yandex has now also joined the alliance.
