First of all, this problem arises due to the cross-platform nature of the smartphone operating system.

It can be connected to any computer, so often there is a problem of compatibility of software components and drivers.

Solution No. 1. USB connection check

Before considering problems with drivers, viruses and the phone itself, you need to check whether the device is connected to the computer correctly.

There is a possibility that the connection cord is defective or the connector on the computer or device has broken.

If this does not happen, the connector does not respond or is broken. Use a different USB input or another computer.

If the computer still “saw” the user device, but it was not recognized as removable media and the contents did not open, you need to configure the drivers.

Decision number 2. Driver software setup

Also, existing drivers could age and to configure the connection they need to be updated automatically or manually.

Follow the instructions to solve the problem with the drivers on your personal computer or laptop:

  • A smartphone connected via usb is displayed in the device manager of your computer. To see its status, go to the dispatcher window and open a tab called usb controllers.
    It displays system and user controllers. Find your smartphone in the list of devices that appears.
    Its name in most cases coincides with the name of the phone model or the name of its Android operating system;

  • After the device has been found, it is necessary to check the status of its operation. To do this, right-click on the displayed device and go to the properties tab.
    In the device status text box, see the level of its operation. Figure 2 shows the case when the device is operating normally, however, in your case, an error text may be displayed that requires user intervention;

  • Next, you need to update the driver. There are two ways to do this: manually or automatically. According to the first method, the driver installation file should be located on your computer.

Decision number 3. Configuring software compatibility between two devices

There are cases when all the drivers are installed correctly, but when trying to connect, neither the phone nor the device can recognize each other.

Why does this happen?

This is due to interruptions in the central processing unit of a personal computer.

The problem is solved very easily. You just need to reboot both devices.

After rebooting the smartphone, clear the RAM from unnecessary processes and delete the phone’s cache.

When you restart your computer or laptop, you must configure safe power-on mode.

Follow the instructions:

  • Reboot your PC;
  • During its re-inclusion (in the first few seconds of the bootloader), press the F key. a window will appear, as in the figure below;

  • In the additional window of boot options, using the up and down arrows and the Enter key, select the option “safe mode with loading adapters”. The OS will start loading in safe mode;

In this mode, the system automatically fixes all the problems that arise with the connected equipment.

Connect the phone to the PC again and open the contents of your smartphone through the computer explorer.

Other solutions to the problem

If the previous solutions did not help you, the problem may be due to one of the following reasons:

  • Phone memory full. In this case, errors may also occur when connecting to a PC. Delete unnecessary files and applications, and then try again. You can also format or change the memory card.
    After completing all the actions, disconnect the phone from the computer and reboot it and only then connect it again;
  • Your smartphone may have been infected by a virus. for this reason, the PC stopped seeing files on the phone. Since there are several types of viruses on Android, you need to use a high-quality universal antivirus to quickly identify and remove the pest.
    For example, Dr Web antivirus is able to scan the system as quickly as possible and automatically delete all files and applications infected with a trojan or other viruses. After cleaning the smartphone, restart it.
    Connect the smartphone to the computer and after the content is displayed, check it for viruses again, but with the help of your PC’s antivirus. As a rule, he is able to identify much more threats;
  • Drive mode is not turned on. Perhaps you just forgot to specify the removable disk mode in the settings, so the computer sees the smartphone, but does not display its contents.
    Open the phone toolbar, select the PC connection setup menu. In the “USB Usage” window, select the file transfer option. After a few seconds, a folder with the contents of the phone will open on the computer;
