TV control buttons

If you got into a TV repair with a malfunction that the button controls on the front panel do not work, then do not rush around, check the processor, etc.
You need to start with a simple one:

  1. Check if child protection is turned on. It happens that adults themselves, not knowing what this function is, include it, but most often children include it.
  2. If the TV is old, then the buttons themselves are probably faulty, this is a very common reason. If the control buttons on the TV do not work, but if you hold the button for a long time, it may work, then you need to replace the buttons. Checking their performance is simple; check their resistance without evaporating from the chassis. When the button is pressed, the resistance should be 0 ohms. If these buttons are not found, then you can repair, there is nothing complicated in this procedure. To do this, carefully trying not to bend especially, tear the metal plate from the plastic case, it rests on four points (if the plate is bent, then you can straighten it, the steel is mild). Inside it there will be a convex plate; it must be cleaned of blackness, do not forget also about the contacts inside the button body. When assembling the plate in place, go with a soldering iron to the mounting points, if it does not hold, you will have to use glue. After assembly, check the button for operation
  3. Check the power supply on the buttons. For different chassis it is different from 2.5 V to 5 V. Look at the diagrams, these are typical diagrams for the TV control buttons. On the SAMSUNG 1438-20E3 circuit, you need to check the voltage

At point C904. 5 V, and the voltage change at pin 9 of the processor, replace the capacitor C904, check the resistor R905.
For Erisson TV 2108, with the panel buttons on the TV panel not working, check the chain from the buttons to the 5th processor output. The voltage at pin 5 should be 5 V. Check R904, R943, C924.

The input of the buttons is punched. Also a rare case. This happens due to static voltage. It’s already worse here, some processors can be restored by warming up (you can read about it on the forums), but most often you need a replacement. The processor for some models of TVs is very expensive, so it might be better to leave it like that with the remote control, it will switch.

A situation is also possible that the TV is no longer controlled not only from the control panel, but also from the remote control. On the example of the Erisson TV 2108 circuit

With a known-good remote control, check items A1001, C904 (important), C934.

Why don’t the buttons on the TV work?

Due to sloppy actions of children or adults, and sometimes just like that, buttons on the TV stop functioning. There are situations when not only the TV keys do not work, but the remote control also refuses to work (or only one button works). In most cases, the cause of this behavior of the TV or its electronics is some kind of physical malfunction. Below we consider the most common such situations:

  • It happens that from a strong or careless pressing of the buttons of the TV, the delivery button jumps out of its socket and shortens the tracks on the control circuit. Due to this short circuit, the control microchip is blocked and, accordingly, does not respond to external signals. You can try to gently move the button, watching the reaction of the TV, if it starts to respond to signals, then everything is fine, but if it does not respond, you need to contact the telemasters. Only they can qualitatively eliminate the problems that have arisen.
  • Due to the external voltage drop, which pierced the internal protective devices of the TV, important control parts on the TV motherboard could burn out. Professional repair is needed here, the price of which will depend on the cost and number of damaged parts.

What to do if the TV buttons do not respond to pressing?

Immediately agree that we will focus on the control buttons located on the front, side or bottom of the TV (depending on its design features), and not on the remote control.

Sometimes you are surprised to notice that the buttons for controlling the main functions and settings of the TV, which you almost never used, ceased to respond to your clicks. Note that in this case you should not go to extremes and immediately send the TV to a service center. It is possible that the malfunction is simple, and you yourself can fix it.

The well-known troubleshooting technique involves moving from simple to more complex. This is what you should do.

Methods of finding the causes of malfunction of television buttons

1. Make sure that the child lock mode is not activated on the TV menu. Most of our compatriots do not know why this function is needed, and do not use it at all. However, curious children, wandering around the menu, can simultaneously turn on the protection mode, while blocking all external control buttons.

2. Check the mechanical integrity of the buttons. In older TVs, the buttons often fail simply because of their lengthy use. If any button does not respond to a single press, but works when holding and swaying for a long time, then it should be replaced with a working one.

You can check the serviceability of the button using a conventional tester (avometer) with a resistance measurement function, and for this you do not need to solder it from the chassis at all. When pressed, the resistance of the button should be zero.

If the TV is so old that finding a new button for it is simply unrealistic. You can try to fix it yourself. It will be enough to carefully separate the top of the button from the TV and clean its contact plates from dirt and traces of oxidation. You should also do with the contacts located in the base of the button. You can fix the cleaned contact plate inside the button with a heated soldering iron, cauterizing plastic latches in turn, or with a suitable glue.

3. Verify that the control voltage is applied to the buttons. Different TV models use different voltage levels, ranging from 2.5 to 5 volts. In addition, it is necessary to check the serviceability of the circuit elements (resistors and capacitors) connecting the inoperative button with a specific processor pin.

4. Check the processor for breakdown. Such a malfunction occurs when the chip is damaged by high static voltage. The problem is solved by replacing the processor with a working analogue. However, some craftsmen propose to restore the processor by the method of heating (annealing), but this is a complicated matter and requires some experience. In any case, you can control the TV with a similar malfunction using the remote control.

5. If the TV does not respond either to commands from the remote control or to the mechanical pressing of buttons, then the problem is much deeper and should be looked for by qualified specialists of the service center. If the TV is new and still under warranty service, then there is only one way out. A service workshop.

Where to repair the TV?

The reason is the first and most common. The batteries in the remote control are dead, the signal from the remote control is too weak and not “finishes off” to the infrared receiver on the TV. So, first place the batteries you are sure of.

Dirt has accumulated

Another typical reason. Dirt accumulated inside the remote control, which interferes with closing the contacts of the buttons. A common symptom of contamination. Only part of the buttons works. The remote control must be carefully opened and the buttons and contact points cleaned. Please note that sometimes cheap Chinese crafts generally stop working after rubbing with alcohol: it is better to rinse with a weak solution with a dishwashing detergent, then rinse with running water and dry thoroughly.

The remote control is broken

If you often dropped the remote control on the floor and generally handled it carelessly, it may not be able to withstand such bullying and break down. In principle, you can fix the remote yourself, but for this you will most likely need a soldering iron and relevant skills. In general, a broken remote is easier to replace with a new one, especially since they are not so expensive.

Defective receiver

Problems can be not only with the remote control, but also with the infrared receiver on the TV, and this is already a task for the telemaster.

Electronics Issues

If the remote control from the TV has stopped working, this does not mean that the problem is in the remote control: the breakdown of some internal nodes of the TV is also possible. If replacing the batteries, cleaning the remote control or even replacing it does not help, you will have to call a specialist from the workshop.

Popular buttons do not work

A very common situation, when only the most popular buttons work poorly on the remote control, for example, the power button. There is nothing strange in this, since over time the conductive sputtering of the contacts is erased. You can solve the problem yourself if you stick a small piece of foil on the button.

The buttons on the TV do not work

If the buttons on the TV itself (not on the remote control) do not work, then the reason is either in the disconnected contacts or in more serious problems with the TV’s electronics. In any case, only an experienced specialist can accurately determine the cause.

  • For the same reason, the firmware of the microchip or the TV control controller could be damaged. Both details relate to the “brains” of the TV and play the most important roles in its management, with damage to the firmware, respectively, control is not possible. Telemasters of the TV Service Center possess all the necessary tools and knowledge for flashing controllers; such repairs cost significantly less than a physical replacement of parts.
  • If you do not use the remote control, then for a long time the contact tracks under the buttons of the TV could be damaged, the contact board that receives the signals of pressing the buttons could also move out. These damages are minor and minor defects, however, they require professional intervention and certain time-consuming repair.

Samsung TV power button does not work. TV does not turn on

Elementary malfunctions of Philips TVs that a confident user can handle.

1. If the Philips TV is new and does not turn on, the likelihood of a defect is quite small. Most likely you are doing something wrong. Stop being nervous. And carefully read the instructions for connecting and operating the TV.

2. If the TV worked and stopped turning on.

2.1. Check if the TV is in Standby mode. Standby is the standby mode or the standby mode of the TV, when it is turned on, the glowing red or green LED on the front of the TV can speak. By the way, we do not recommend leaving the TV in this mode for a long period of time, although it is convenient for users, but in this mode the primary power supply circuits of the TV’s power supply are energized, and in case of a power surge, despite the fact that the TV does not seem to work, These circuits will fail and the TV will not turn on. So it’s better to turn off the TV with the power button. That the risk of a TV outage would be less.

2.1.1. If there is a standby indication and the Philips LCD TV does not turn on with the remote control, try turning on the TV from the control panel on the TV itself. Perhaps you just do not have a working remote control. (There is nothing special to break in the remote control, the batteries have gone or are dead, and if the remote control has fallen, then the quartz resonator may have broken, it must be changed.)

2.1.2. If the TV does not turn on from the panel. You need to know how the standby indicator behaves.

2.1.2.1. If it turns off, then the problem is most likely deeper in the TV and one of the modules that has failed is blocking the work. On some televisions, the lock is triggered with a flick of a closing relay.

2.1.2.2. But it’s possible that the TV turned on and works fine, but only the Philips LCD TV is in AV mode or computer connection mode. So you need to put the TV into normal mode. (By the way. If the antenna is not plugged into the TV or a weak television signal is on the plug, the TVs suppress noise and enter monitor mode. That is, the screen is dark and there is no sound.)

2.2. If there is no standby indication and when you press the power button, the TV does not turn on at all, there are no clicks or blinking indicators, that is, of course, there is little chance to assume that the TV will turn on from another outlet, but this chance is not very big. Unless you have a very broken surge protector or extension cord. Without the appropriate knowledge and qualifications, we do not recommend repairing televisions on our own; we simply cannot replace the fuses. Firstly, they don’t fly so easily, and secondly, on modern LCD or plasma TV boards you won’t find them so easily.
3. If the LCD LCD TV turns on for a long time, then in any case it is a malfunction of one of the TV units. For CRT televisions and LCD televisions, the causes of such breakdowns are different. It is quite difficult to diagnose these malfunctions, since the malfunctioning element of the failed unit nevertheless enters the operating mode and it is almost impossible to confidently identify it without any experience with these models. So it is necessary to repair using special measuring equipment, service programs and stands.

As an example:

The PHILIPS 32PFL3605-12 TV was repaired with a diagnosis of “not turning on”. The indication of inclusion is absent.

The composition of the LCD LCD TV PHILIPS 32PFL3605-12 is as follows: power supply and inverter –715G3816-P02-h30-002U, main. TPM4.1ELA.

We begin the repair by disassembling the TV. The first measurements show that there are no supply voltages of 5V, 12V, 24V.

Analyzing the circuit, we see that the primary cause of the malfunction may be a 5V standby voltage feeder on the TNY274 PWM controller. Next, we check the electrolytes, active elements and the controller itself. The reason for the failure was the adjustable zener diode TL431.

After replacing it, the source’s operability resumed. Checking the operation of the PSU in the “stand-alone” mode must be carried out with the load connected in the form of a 6.3V bulb.

We assemble the TV and check the work. Everything, the TV works fine. On this repair is completed.

Televisions and television have firmly entered our lives. Today
