Apple iPhone 11 differences from 11 pro

IPhone 11 and iPhone 12, what are the differences and the difference?

apple, iphone, differences

So, let’s start with the color scheme. As it was clear from the presentation, a new feature of this lineup is blue, or rather “Blue” or “Pacific Blue” in the Pro versions. Colors such as “Yellow” and “Purple” have disappeared from the color gamut, although for the entire 2020, it was the purple iPhone 11 that was purchased the most.

Now let’s move on to the price difference, which we will return to once again to summarize. The starting price of the iPhone 12 is 799 and the iPhone 11 now starts at 599. At first glance, the difference is quite significant, because between the same XR and 11 this difference was only 100. Let’s see if it’s worth paying this money for innovations, and let’s take into account that we are in Ukraine, and more specifically in Kiev, and the announced newest 5G technology will be available in our country no earlier than in a couple of years, which clearly reduces the relevance of the new iPhone.

What has changed in the Camera is the new Dolby Vision HDR video technology, how much it costs to overpay for it is not yet clear. The battery life of the smartphone remains the same. But the aluminum case on the front panel now has a ceramic coating. Ceramic Shield promises that the glass of your iPhone 12 will be 4 times less susceptible to breaking, in fact, we will check it all with crash tests.

As for the water resistance of the iPhone 12, the immersion depth has increased from 2x to 6 meters, while the time remains 30 minutes. As before, Apple gently hints to its users that moisture penetration into the device is not a warranty case.
Absolutely new, and in many ways quite convenient MagSafe feature, previously used on MacBook. Now you can magnet on the back of the iPhone both a wallet and wireless charging, and maybe other interesting gadgets, which greatly expands the capabilities of the back of the device.
At the same time, the memory with which the smartphone is produced has remained unchanged. 64 128 and 256 GB respectively.

And of course, a new unique design, behind which everyone has been so stuck with the iPhone 5. How boring are these rounded edges for so many years.

Let’s be honest, get a new design, a cool display like the flagships, and in addition display protection, for a difference of 200. At first glance, these are not great advantages, but let’s not forget about the new processor, and let’s estimate that buying a flagship will cost at least 300-400 dollars and it will be the iPhone 11 Pro, and certainly not the last iPhone 12. As a conclusion. not such a big overpayment, and there is definitely something to pay for!

Battery

The battery in the 12 Pro is 2815 mAh, while the battery in the 11 Pro is 3046 mAh. The difference is minimal, but the official specifications indicate that the 12 Pro plays video up to 17 hours (an hour less). In real life, the operating time will be plus or minus comparable, this is one day under load. For those who use the device little, it will be a couple of days. On average, the screen lasts from 4 to 5 hours in mixed mode and with backlight at 60%.

Wireless charging up to 7.5W is available on both models, but MagSafe is also available on the 12 Pro. The back panel has a built-in magnet to which you can attach a MagSafe charger.

In theory, a new charge can provide up to 15 W, in practice, the first results do not show more than 9-10 W, the device overheats, and charging stops. Optional MagSafe cases come in a variety of options, but Apple warns that charging will ruin them, leave marks, dirt, and become unusable. A strange, ill-considered decision, especially since MagSafe turns the device into a wired solution, kills all the advantages of wireless charging. It is impossible to consider this an advantage of the new model.

For many years Apple has not been able to solve the problems with wireless charging, engineers are not able to master the technology that has existed for a long time. The purchase of third-party companies to solve this problem still prevented Apple from catching up with competitors.

Design and ergonomics

Ice and fire, otherwise not to say about these two devices, they have completely different aesthetics. The flexibility of the world of the brand fans amazes me, they like both the 11 Pro and the 12 Pro equally, although the design of these models is diametrically opposite.

In the 11 Pro, the company tried to approach the majority of the models on the market, to achieve better ergonomics and rounding of the case. The 11 Pro feels much better in the hands, it doesn’t cut into the palm of your hand.

But the 12 Pro looks awkward in the hand, straight edges, it cuts into the hand (of course, it does not cut to blood, as they say in Chinese social networks). The device has the ergonomics of a small brick, so we can definitely say that this model is not very good in this aspect. For me, choosing an iPhone 4 design for the 2021 model looks like a dubious step to say the least. But, apparently, they did not want to be like everyone else. It is difficult to assume that someone will try to repeat this design for mass, non-niche models. there is no way to achieve at least acceptable ergonomics.

The protruding camera block on the rear panel is about the same, but here in the 12 Pro the microphone hole is changed, now it’s just a hole in the case, not covered by a metal grill, and a hole for LiDAR has also appeared. The block on the 12 Pro protrudes more from the body, touches clothing or other objects. On the table, the device lies on this block (where is the logic, do not ask, the designers do not have it at all).

Each model has four color schemes, last year the title color was dark green, this year dark blue.

The dimensions and weight of the devices are as follows:

  • 11 Pro 144×71.4×8.1 mm, 188 grams
  • 12 Pro 146.7×71.5×7.4 mm, 189 grams

As already mentioned, the 12 Pro’s ergonomics suffer from the shape of the case, the sharp edges require the use of a case. It is possible that the choice of this form is dictated by the need to sell accessories in large quantities, to force people to buy them. Many iPhone 11 Pro users haven’t used a case at all.

The back panel is made of glass, it is matt (satin finish). Very cool material, which I really like, fingerprints are not visible, almost does not wear out over time and does not age, the appearance remains at the same level. The 12 Pro doubled the drop resistance and used a different type of glass. This wasn’t a problem on the 11 Pro either, but it’s always nice to see improvements.

The controls are the same everywhere, no differences.

The Pacific blue stainless steel chassis is chrome-plated to match the body color, but the paint flies off, chips appear. This was the case in the iPhone 5, although the problem was not so noticeable there. Alas, the very shape of the case suggests that even without falls, there will be notches on the edges, that very stainless steel will be exposed. In a model of such a price group, this childish mistake of designers and the wrong selection of materials, the economy on the technical process looks strange. In the future, Apple will most likely change the approach and resolve this issue, fortunately for this you need to spend not so much money, you just didn’t need to save it initially on tests.

The front panel is covered with different glasses, for example, in the 12 Pro it is a “ceramic shield”, specially tempered glass that is resistant to drops. The first independent tests show that the glass can withstand these drops, unlike the screen underneath. But the choice of the glass parameter is always a compromise. Previous iPhones relied on the absence of scratches on the screen, look at the iPhone 8 Plus, which lasted three years from call to call, the screen is broken, but there are no scratches on it (there were no protective films on it).

This is how the 11 Pro’s screen looked after a few months of use.

And on the 12 Pro’s screen, scratches appear very quickly, there is no difference between these devices in this aspect, they need to be protected with additional glass. Apple was unable to reach a compromise, as other manufacturers do.

Both models support the IP68 standard, but if the 11 Pro survived diving to a depth of 4.5 meters, then in the 12 Pro it is already 6.5 meters. And in the first and in the second case, no guarantee is given, if you drown the device, then you will do it yourself and you will not receive anything from the manufacturer, this is how it works for everyone. As for me, all situations when a smartphone sinks at a depth of more than two meters are already far-fetched, of course, unless you are an experienced scuba diver and for some reason do not swim with your smartphone.

Cameras. minimal differences are not for everyone

The front cameras on the models are completely identical, you should definitely not look for differences here. The main cameras are almost the same, the aperture for the main module has changed. from f / 1.8 to f / 1.6. Otherwise, these are exactly the same cameras without any hardware changes, except for the presence of LiDar, which appeared for night portrait shooting and allows you to focus. Look at the specifications of the cameras.

Most of the changes that have been made to the cameras on the iPhone 12 Pro won’t be noticeable to the vast majority of people. This is work on the mistakes of the previous device, but not a new quality of shooting. For example, in the wide-angle camera, the distortion at the corners of the picture was changed, earlier they were very noticeable in the pictures, and this distinguished the iPhone from all competitors on the market, it refracted the corners. Now this problem with distortion is calculated, the camera itself corrects the picture.

The third generation HDR for images is somewhat different, but I could not notice any stunning differences, the images are plus or minus the same. It is quite another matter that at night these devices shoot more or less the same, the aperture of the 12 Pro is slightly higher, but it will not work to get fundamentally different pictures. However, see for yourself.

And here is a comparison of ordinary shots with different subjects.

The Portrait mode in the iPhone 11 Pro was useless in the dark, while in the 12 Pro it can be used, although you do not look for big achievements here.

It’s definitely better, but should you shoot portraits in the dark? Question. But it’s better than what it was anyway.

When recording video, you can use HDR mode with proprietary format from Dolby Vision (12 Pro only). The difference from HDR10 is that you need a TV that supports this format (there are not many of them today), and when sending such videos to other devices, you will most likely convert them. My experiments with the format showed that the HDR mode works, but you simply will not get a striking difference from the same 11 Pro. This is more marketing and an attempt to catch up with other manufacturers than something necessary in everyday life for most users (with HDR10, the situation is exactly the same on other smartphones).

The camera aLGorithms in the 12 Pro have changed, they are no better, no worse, just different. Somewhere one device does not fall into the white balance, somewhere else. The sound recording in the video has become a little worse, the audio zoom has flaws, perhaps the problem is in the other location of the microphone, in the fact that the mesh has been removed. Probably not worth touching what worked before with acceptable quality.

Display

In 2020-2021, Apple planned to install a new generation of screens from Samsung, add AoD, dynamic analysis of content on the screen and a few more features for little things, for example, a second RGB sensor, like on Samsung’s flagships. None of this happened, since in the 12th iPhone the company was forced to save on literally all components. Therefore, we slightly increased the screen diagonal. from 5.8 to 6.1 inches (458 and 460 ppi), left a comparable resolution and brightness (800 nits in manual mode, up to 1200 nits for HDR content).

These are screens of the same generation, which is three years away from modern matrices. This is cheaper and easier for Apple, especially since the matrices are not bad, they simply do not have all the capabilities that modern flagships (and not only modern ones) have. It is difficult to see the differences between the screens, but the same 12 Pro glass intervenes, it distorts the picture a little, makes it dim a little. The screen on the 11 Pro is subjectively a little more lively, but this is visible only with a picky study up close. Nobody can appreciate this difference in life, it is so miserable.

Communication capabilities

The 12 Pro now has support for fifth-generation networks, which fundamentally distinguishes this device from the 11 Pro. In the absence of such networks in Russia, there is no need for a 5G module today, especially since they take from 10 to 15 thousand rubles for it in the cost of the device. Other possibilities coincide to the point, the devices have no differences. So keep that in mind when you look at them.

Processor, performance, memory

I’ll start with the most interesting thing. the amount of memory available in these models.

In the 11 Pro, the base version has only 64 GB, which is nothing for a model of this level, unless you only make calls (in this case, the question arises, why do you need such a device. but maybe you just like it and have money for it?). The 12 Pro has a base storage of 128GB, not a dream come true, but something. Usually in this price range, buyers get 256 GB, but here the usual greed from Apple, nothing new.

Every year we are told that Apple’s new processors are faster, better, and most powerful on the planet. The A14 Bionic processor in the 12 Pro is about 20% faster in synthetic benchmarks than the A13 Bionic. The problem is that the interface and its speed do not directly depend on the processing capabilities of the processor, both devices work at the same speed on the same iOS version. You will not feel any difference. The difference will be when processing large files, such as video editing. In ordinary, standard tasks and applications, you will not see any differences.

The amount of RAM is not something that Apple can boast of, so the company traditionally does not indicate it. In the previous model it was 4 GB, now 6 GB of memory (already better!). This means that you can keep more tabs open, applications, in theory, will not fall asleep so quickly (they still fall asleep, these are system settings).

The user experience from the interface, the speed of work on these models is as similar as possible, the difference in processors, memory does not affect this aspect of the devices in any way. You can measure with a stopwatch in your hands, you will get exactly the same results.

Difference between iPhone 11 and 11 Pro. review, comparison

In the fall of 2019, the line of Apple smartphones acquired new devices. The iPhone XR and XS have been replaced by the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, a comparison of which should show who each particular model is aimed at. Is the difference between a regular iPhone 11 and an iPhone with the “Pro” prefix significant??

Comparison of cameras

Not only displays, but also cameras are different for smartphones. True, in this respect they differ only quantitatively.

Characteristic iPhone 11 iPhone 11 Pro
Front-camera 12 MP (f / 2.2)
Main camera 12 MP (f / 1.8)
Telephoto lens Not 12 MP (f / 2.4)
Wide angle lens 12 MP (f / 2.4)
Video 4K (60 fps)
DxOMark rating 109 117

The front camera takes equally good selfies on both the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. And the sensor has got an additional function. slow selfie. It allows you to shoot slow-motion videos at a frame rate of 120 fps. The thing is useless, but most owners of new iPhones have appreciated this feature and continue to actively use it.

Particular emphasis in the iPhone 11 and its pro version has been placed on the main camera. And although the resolution remained at the 2018 level (12 megapixels), a new night mode was added. It allows you to take clear and detailed photos even in low light conditions without using a flash.

Another feature of both cameras is the presence of a wide-angle lens. By 2020, this sensor has become indispensable, and millions of smartphone owners use a camera with a coverage of 120 degrees to frame a large group of friends. During the day, the quality of the pictures is perfect. In the evening, everything is much more complicated. Shirik, unlike the main lens, is not equipped with a night mode. And the aperture of the lens is not capable of making an evening shot without noise.

If the difference in the pictures on the front, the main camera and the width could not be noticed, then this means that we did not get to the main feature of the iPhone 11 Pro. The smartphone is equipped with a telephoto lens, which is designed to add the ability to use 2x optical zoom without losing quality. That is, with optical zoom, the image will not be cropped, as on the iPhone 11, but will get closer by changing the position of the lens.

Processor, memory and battery

iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 are based on the 13th Gen A Bionic processor. This is an incredibly powerful chipset even compared to the iPhone XS Max’s hardware, which was the highest performing in 2018.

In AnTuTu testing, new devices with the same amount of RAM (4 GB), at first glance, show amazing results. The more affordable iPhone 11 scores 1,000 points more than its opponent (456k versus 455k). But you shouldn’t be surprised at this figure, since a low-resolution display requires less effort from the Apple A Bionic processor.

In practice, it will not be possible to detect the difference in performance between the two devices. In both cases, the interface works smartly, and the picture changes with the usual frequency of 60 Hz.

The only difference is the amount of built-in memory. The iPhone 11 comes in 64, 128 or 256 GB versions. And the pro version is available with 64, 256 or 512 gigabytes of storage. Memory cards, as before, are not supported.

The autonomy of the devices deserves special mention. Apple smartphones have long had a notorious reputation for battery life, and constant shutdowns in the cold are the main pain of owners from Russia. With the release of new models in 2019, the situation with functioning in the cold has not changed, but the manufacturer has noticeably pumped up the autonomy.

iPhone 11 received a 3110 mAh battery, and Proshka. 3046 mAh. In video mode, the iPhone 11 lasts a couple of hours longer than its competitor, but 15 hours of the 11 Pro is a decent result. The main advantage of the pro version is the presence of a fast charger included with the device. It allows you to charge your smartphone by 58% in 30 minutes. iPhone 11 also supports Fast Charge, but with a standard block in half an hour, the device will restore only 18% of energy.

Dimensions: thickness and weight

If, when comparing the appearance, it did not become clear how the iPhone 11 differs from the iPhone 11 Pro, then this question will be answered right now. Despite the fact that it is the “proshka” that is a full-fledged flagship, its dimensions are far from the usual indicators of modern smartphones:

  • dimensions. 144 × 71.4 × 8.1 mm;
  • weight. 188 grams.

Such a device is usually called compact. But even with its modest dimensions, the iPhone 11 Pro is quite heavy. However, the regular iPhone 11 is even larger and heavier:

  • dimensions. 151 × 75.7 × 8.3 mm;
  • weight. 194 grams.

The increase in size is due to the choice of the display matrix, which does not allow to reduce the frame to a minimum. Because of this, the manufacturer had to make the smartphone more massive. Another thing is the iPhone Pro Max, whose dimensions are explained by the presence of a 6.5-inch display and a very large battery by Apple standards.

Display and screen

When comparing the iPhone 11 11 Pro, the review is built around a few key specs. One of the main ones is the screen, since it is its quality that affects the first sensations of the user when interacting with the device.

iPhone 11 received a proprietary Liquid Retina display. Of course, this is a marketing ploy, since in practice this type is a regular IPS matrix that most budget smartphones have. What’s more, at 6.1-inches, the display’s resolution barely surpasses HD. The 828×1792 pixel ratio does not provide sufficient picture clarity. The image is grainy, which is especially noticeable in the example of application icons on the home screen.

An interesting combination of Super Retina XDR is called the display of the iPhone 11 Pro. This is a 5.8-inch OLED matrix, which occupies almost the entire area of the front panel of the smartphone. The bezels are much narrower than on the iPhone 11. And the resolution is 1125 by 2436 pixels. There are no questions about the picture display quality. The image is clear and rich, and the maximum brightness allows you to comfortably use your smartphone even in direct sunlight.

You can’t tell the difference between the iPhone 11 and the 11 Pro by looking at the front panel of the devices. Both smartphones received a widescreen display with an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9. At the top of the display is the familiar “bangs” that have already become a distinctive feature of all Apple phones.

There are no differences in the controls either. On the left side there is a pair of buttons for volume control, as well as a lock switch. On the right side there is a power key and a slot for one SIM card. Charging is done using the Lightning connector. The sound comes from the multimedia speaker, which is located below, and next to it there is an additional grill for the conversational microphone.

But the back panel immediately makes it clear which of the smartphones in question bears the proud name “Pro”. A noticeable difference between the iPhone 11 iPhone 11 Pro is the number of sensors on the main camera. Proshka with its triple module hints that this smartphone should definitely suit fans of mobile photography. The competitor received only 2 sensors.

But in the design of the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, the difference is primarily due to the body colors. iPhone 11 Pro received a wide, but at the same time strict palette:

  • the black;
  • silver;
  • dark green;
  • gold.

Each option looks presentable, indicating the status of the owner. But the design of the iPhone 11 makes it clear that the developers did not hesitate to experiment. Along with the classic black and white colors, there are some pretty interesting shades in the palette:

  • mint;
  • yellow;
  • purple;
  • red.

Obviously, the model is aimed at a young audience. iPhone 11 will be chosen by those who are not afraid of bright solutions. A wide color palette will provide the buyer with a wide choice for every taste.

I am sure that while studying the tablet, your enthusiasm increased. And it is justified, because something really principled iPhone 11 does not differ from its older counterparts. And you will be able to save money when buying.

Once again, below are all the main differences between the iPhone 11 and the Pro versions:

  • IPS versus OLED display looks weaker, however HDR video playback is supported
  • less memory in the top: 256 vs 512 GB
  • no 12MP rear camera with telephoto lens. no 2x zoom
  • battery larger than the Pro, but smaller than the Max version
  • the size of the 11th is a cross between Pro and Pro Max
  • aluminum instead of steel
  • immersion in water up to 2 meters instead of 4
  • other body colors

The two biggest differences are the display with slightly wider bezels than the Pro and the lack of a third camera. Otherwise, this is a new, high-end and very powerful iPhone. He easily bends all existing flagships on Android, shoots with the main camera in the same way as older brothers (Smart HDR, night mode, 4K 60 FPS) and so on. An overpayment of about 30 thousand rubles just for the camera and a couple of nuances that can only be detected by direct comparison is a dubious thing.

Be that as it may, lower for all-all new iPhone eleven models in Russia.

Aside from the display, the camera is one of the biggest differences between the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro.

The iPhone 11 has a dual 12-megapixel camera system with wide and ultra-wide lenses. It also supports a new Night Mode for high-quality low-light shots, auto adjust, optical image stabilization, 2x optical zoom, brighter flash, six-effect portrait mode, and Smart HDR.

In comparison, the main difference between the iPhone 11 Pro’s camera is its third telephoto lens. You also get dual optical image stabilization, 2x optical zoom, and 10x digital zoom. The A13 Bionic has four high-performance cores that are 20 percent faster and use 40 percent less power than the A12 Bionic, and two more cores that are 20 percent faster and 30 percent more efficient. The amount of RAM is still unknown, but there are assumptions.

How the iPhone 11 differs from the iPhone 11 Pro

The newest smartphones from Apple, iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, will start selling in Russia on September 20. Despite the fact that they look very similar, smartphones at the same time are very different: for example, the iPhone 11 is made in an aluminum case, and its front and back are made of glass, while the iPhone 11 has replaced the aluminum frame with stainless steel and made the back matt surface. And this is not the only difference.

New iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max

Apple claims to have made “the toughest glass in a smartphone” for all three iPhones in 2019, and promises that it will remain intact if you drop it or otherwise accidentally damage your iPhone.

iPhone 11 Pro vs iPhone 11. Which Should You choose?

IPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro display

iPhone 11 features a 6.1-inch “Liquid Retina HD” IPS display, while the iPhone 11 Pro family boasts a sharper “Super Retina XDR” OLED display. While the IPS display on the iPhone 11 delivers true-to-life colors, the OLED on the iPhone 11 Pro is brighter in sunlight, can display true blacks and more detail in bright areas. In particular, the iPhone 11 reaches a maximum brightness of 625 nits, while the iPhone 11 Pro reaches 1200 nits. Both models support True Tone and Haptic Touch, but neither of them support 3D Touch, which Apple has dropped.

The IPS display is mainly what Apple was able to bring down the price of the iPhone 11 over the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, but it will be more than enough for most users who use their iPhones for social networking and gaming.

How the iPhone 11 differs from the iPhone 11 Pro

We have already compared the iPhone XR and iPhone 11, it is time now to push the heads of the representatives of the new generation of iPhone. For clarity, we have compiled a small table using official Apple data. The main differences are highlighted in red.

IPhone 11 vs iPhone 11 Pro vs iPhone 11 Pro Max

If you are interested in learning more (and judging by what they say in our Telegram chat, this is how it is), now we will tell you.

Wide-angle camera iPhone 11 Pro

Since the iPhone XS did not have such a module, here are the characteristics of only the iPhone 11 Pro.

  • Exposure range: 1/45000. 1
  • ISO limits: 21. 2016
  • Focal length: 13mm
  • Aperture: f / 2.4

The changes that have occurred to the iPhone 11 camera are hardly a real breakthrough. The most you can count on is a slight improvement when shooting in low light conditions. Even an additional module, which Apple added this year, has long been present in the devices of competitors, having become commonplace. The camera software of the new iPhones is another matter. Thanks to the support of neural networks and machine learning technologies, the novelties have learned not only to take high-quality pictures in the dark, but also to simulate studio shooting thanks to special modes.

How the iPhone 11 Pro camera differs from the iPhone XS camera

When asked how the iPhone 11 Pro differs from last year’s iPhone XS, the first thing you think of is the camera. Neither the increased battery capacity, nor the 18-watt power supply, nor even the lack of 3D Touch. Apparently, this is due to the atypical design of the main camera module, which attracts attention with an additional lens with an ultra-wide viewing angle, thereby causing associations with the design solutions of competitors. But after all, she is remarkable not only for her appearance. Is not it?

IPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max cameras

Despite the fact that Apple prefers not to bore users with the technical specifications of their devices, Cupertino does not try to keep them secret either. Therefore, the developer of the Halide application, Sebastian de Wit, studied the cameras of new smartphones and presented them with an exhaustive description.

Triple camera iPhone 11 Pro

However, Apple won’t stop there. Already this year, Cupertino plans to release an update for the iPhone 11, which will activate Deep Fusion technology. This is one of the most promising developments of the company, which in its essence resembles a textbook “do well” button. This technology will analyze each pixel of the frame and process it in such a way as to reduce the level of noise and increase the detail, and the output will get a better image than it would have been without post-processing.
